Warhammer: Space Marine 2 Performance Benchmark

Sure it looks fine no argument there, but it's hardly cutting edge visually. The right choice for this game though I reckon, It is what it chose to be.
Visual presentation / art style is way more important than being cutting edge, imo. As the other side of the coin, it's enough to look at Star Wars Outlaws, for example. It's got RT with all bells and whistles, but it still looks crap because of the character models.

Agreed, and RT can absolutely enhance or do nothing for that depending on how it's done, and as you say craptacular character models can really detract from it and outlaws has some proper dog shit ones. Alan Wake 2 and Senuas Saga lately stand out more for me as cutting edge where they got it right, suits the style and the models are top notch too, even uncannily good in Senuas saga imo. This game seems more like the hoards are the big attraction.

Just came here to say thank you for not forgetting to bench the 3090 like most other sites do.

it looks like even the 14900K is bottlenecking the RTX 4090 on 1080p and 2K ...

@W1zzard
Excellent review, I do have a question about the GPU performance results. Do you have a suspected reason why the GPU hierarchy changed at the top between the RTX 4080 / Super and the RX 7900 XTX. Seems weird the 7900 XTX was better in 1080p and 2160p but falls behind in the middle at at 1440p. It seems to do that on MIN results as well so I was just curious if you had an idea as to what was holding it back at 1440p.

High-end cards are CPU limited, NV apparently a tiny bit more than AMD

Would that be the infamous Ngreedia driver overhead or just architectural differences?

Absolutely. Swarm Engine is fairly notorious for being CPU heavy and was the reason why World War Z stuck around in CPU benches on several sites for a while.
Shame there are no RTS titles worth adding to the bench nowadays. That genre was always pushing CPUs when it was alive (Supreme Commander, for example). I understand taking out AoE IV, though, that games engine was an absolute shitshow and basically was a test of “how high can your single core go”.
RTS is still alive and well. The truth is that all major review sites use the same 35+ Games and that forms the basis of the argument.

Hellblade 2 has me spoiled, and sad at the same time.

Dear @W1zzard, just wanted to drop a Screenshot from later in the game, mission IV on Avarax.
The VRAM usage is way higher as in the review. It used almost 13,5GB with a mixed high/ultra setting in 1440p.

“A first patch will arrive soon enough! We are also completely aware of the different bugs you've been encountering. We're working hard to fix them." It will include:
  • Ultra Wide Support
  • Private PVE lobbies
  • Sparring area

well, at least, they can full support for all ultrawide screen in the next update, not like elden ring that today, still not full support for all ultrawide screen.

there is memory leak .... ?

I highly doubt so. Game runs perfect, no crashes or bugs. In the first missions, VRAM usage was moderate, as in the reviews.

Just looks more like allocation rather than utilisation, which is a fine approach to memory management if you have a large VRAM pool.

What happens when you restart the game and load that savegame?

Its higher. Thats the first mission on Avarax.

I have activated now VRAM usage for the process and will give you later an update on this if it works as expected.

14 GB allocation, 10GB usage.
