If a 5090 64GB came out it would be great for highly modded games and AI

32GB is good enough for what i play (skyrim and ff7 rebirth modded)

Looking at prices in Germany for the 5090 and the lowest price is 2950€. I hope that prices drop.
 
Things are looking better. I found out some of my issues were due to BIOS changes after I installed the 9950x3d. Still got some tweaking to do. Similar builds have higher scores.

i guess a bit of backstory, my modded skyrim uses up 35+gb of ram and all 10gb of my 3080 10GB

with how much wider the bus is 32gb probably is enough (i don't know)

My history has usually been price based, and I wasn't against buying used. If cpu isn't listed, it used the previous cpu.

Since I started building and modifying PC's, it's been:

Athlon XP 1600+/GeForce 256 32MB (used)
FX 5700 128MB (new)
All-in-Wonder Radeon x1900 256MB (new)
Athlon II X4 640/Radeon HD5770 1GB (new)
i7-4770/R7 260X 2GB (used)
i7-4790k/RX 570 8GB (new)
i5-11600k/GTX 1660 ti 6GB (used)
RTX 3060 ti 8GB (new)

I don't plan on buying a 50 series. My next GPU will probably be a mid-range several year old used 16 GB card, whatever brand or model I encounter for a decent price.
 
Would've liked to see more memory and a better power connector on the 5090.

At the current pricing, it's not worth it for me.

3090/4090 is a better buy if you can source them cheap enough for ML stuff.
 
Should we expect price hikes for gpus here in Europe after Trump introduced tariffs against other countries?

So wanted to give a small comment on upgrading to the 5090 from a 4090. I've had the 4090 since launch and just got an Inno3d 5090 OC (EU).

Obviously the first thing I did was put a massive load on it to check for heat around the connector. No issues. Then bump memory another 1500 just to play around with it and no issues. Noise about the same as my 4090 (Asus TUF OC), perhaps just a bit louder but hard to hear.

One thing most people seem to forget when they compare 3090->4090 vs 4090->5090 is that 30% in raster on top of an already fast card is quite a LOT. It does feel like a substantial upgrade to me in the few games I tried so far (sorry don't have any recorded perf numbers). Overall very happy. And I didn't think I would enjoy MFG, but I do in cyberpunk at 4k with all bells and whistles. Just to max out my 144hz display.

I may end up undervolting slightly and reduce TDP a bit as it seems it does not affect perf much if at all (then in return increase memory speeds).
 
5090 is the first flagship card that I feel like I don't want to buy. I've had 980, 1080, 2080 Ti, 3080 Ti and now have a 4090.
I had my 4090 12VHPWR melt down once, got replacement from warranty. Felt like I dodged a bullet there since I used a recalled 180-degree adapter :D

The 4090 felt stupendously powerful when I got it, and still does. Don't feel like dropping 3000€ for an upgrade, I'll keep using it until I get the upgrade itch again.

It sure does and I felt the same until I digged into the numbers of the 5090 benchmarks a bit more. And realised, it's a much harder sell for the 4090 in 2 years when it's 4.5 years old and 6xxx is out. But it's hard to predict. If Nvidia does a DLSS5 with more 5xxx only features that are worth it, then 4xxx will further drop in price. To me the resell value is most important. It's good time to sell a 4090 right now. In 2 years, or perhaps even 2.5 years, I'm not so sure.

Did a bit of overclocking just to get a feel of where we were. This is an Inno3d 5090 OC, and 2000 Mem/200 core with no other tweaks is 100% stable. Thats 2TB/s Mem bandwidth
And I kind of like its smaller than my 4090 Asus TUF OC. More compact.

And just sold my 4090. Given this is the EU, prices cant directly be compared, VAT vs not, etc but in the end having the 4090 cost me 13USD / 12 EUR per month over 28 months. To me thats quite good.

Nice work good time to sell 4090 while its hot again! For AU perspective a 5080 costs us 2200-2400 MSRP / 4090 used is 3200 AUD / 5090 is 4200 MSRP so if you manage to sell your 4090 you can almost buy an entirely new system with a 5080 in it whereas the 5090 alone is a complete PC with a 5080.

Yes agree. GPU prices have gone ridiculous. I try to calculate cost per month to make it feel/look slightly better. My phone is more expensive per month than the 4090 was. However, this gen seems to be a bit special. Will see what the tariffs do and what the resell value of the 5000 series will be like.

I fell asleep during release night and 5090s are only now dropping below $6k AND are available. The 5080 is such an underwhelming card. I’m making do with a 5070Ti but when we approach $5k for 5090s I’ll probably bite the bullet.
 
I can get the 5090 for 3000€ at an EU store. I'm planning on buying a new computer this summer. Should I wait until the summer to buy the card?

A brand new 5090 is never going to be any cheaper than it is now. Tariffs are going to make GPUs even more expensive and the resultant global recession will mean even fewer people will be able to afford them, which means fewer will be produced, which means their prices will increase even further.

Normally, I'd disagree massively with you, but the fact this is kind of the writing on the wall (this is something that COULD happen) is scary.

Trying to snipe a decent piece of gaming hardware that will last me another 3 years atm on the GPU end. Wish me luck.
