Does anyone here use vertical mouse in the gaming. Getting older now and every now and then starting to get the shakes in the wrist so thought I might try a vertical mouse.

These aren't designed for high resolutions, but they should work at least as well as most office mice. I'm considering getting something like that, or a trackball myself... know how you feel

Zalman tried making something like that as a gaming mouse about 15 years ago

@Kovoet

I can't comment on the mouse thing, since I've never tried one, nor had any reason to do so...

However, I'm diggin your avatar though, they're one of my favorite 80's rocker bands :D

If you are fine with 125Hz polling rate on that MX Vertical - then it's worth a try. The hardware is a bit outdated though...
Otherwise - you should look at Razer Pro Click v2: it's a newer one, has up to 1000Hz polling rate and much faster sensor. Design is a bit questionable, but still not too shabby.
Always wanted to try something like that for myself, before I get carpal tunnel syndrome, plus I like my roddents big and heavy anyways.

My favourite all time band since they started and listen to at least one of the songs weekly. I have a mousepad and wallpaper with there album cover. One thing I never got to tick off my bucket list was to watch them live.

If it works for you, have at it and enjoy. Nothing wrong with trying something different, especially if you have a physical challenge that necessitates a change. Rock on!

It will work perfectly fine unless one aims to be a top tier competitive FPS player. Even then, there’s a guy who reached highest rank in Valorant with a drawing tablet, so anything is possible, I suppose.

Vertical mice won't necessarily fix your issue, merely move it further up your arm.

Other options include trackballs, drawing tablets, and pen mice although none of them are optimized for gaming.

I do really wish we'd see more alternative options, I don't know how heavy switches in mice like GM 8.0 switches become so popular, they're so stiff it's no wonder people are developing wrist issues.

I use a logitech MX Vertical for everything except gaming, i grab my G502 for that.

Not a lot of reviews managed to extend my internal English dictionary.

But since i´ve seen that razor review i´ve made a new entry: "pinky-prison"

It seems that the prolonged latch at the bottom is comfortable only if you have the exact right size of hand/pinky.

I see a lot of office workers getting "approved by health insurance" vertical mice in the 20-30 buck range.

Why not pick one or two of those cheap ones to get a feel before investing three digits into only one?

Vertical mice can be cheap, ergonomic and very stylish:

I have vertical mouse that I got for free. It is so uncomfortable to use, the traditional mouse will always be the best choice.

The discussed usecase are f..ed up old hands so why argument from the perspective of somebody whose hands are pain free and still have warranty?

You´ll eat your own words in 20-40 years mate.

Chime back in after it arrives and let us all know how it suits you!

I was having wrist pain too, so I bought a Logitech MX Vertical. I tried it for gaming, and was slowly getting used to it, but I went back to my Razer Basilisk V3 for gaming.

Razer finally just came out with a vertical gaming mouse as shown above the Pro Click V2 Vertical, but it's twice what I paid for my MX Vertical, and from a pretty comprehensive review I saw it is not as comfortable for semi large hands (which I have) as the MX Vertical. It's also quite a bit more vertical angle, so that would be hard to adjust to as well, especially for gaming. Also, the Razer being 15 gm heavier while being 14 degrees steeper angle confirms why it is said the mouse is awkward to lift.

I suffice with using the MX Vertical for my morning laptop net sessions, and anytime I get on the desktop for net or non gaming stuff. A big part of what has helped me avoid wrist pain, as much if not more so than the vert mouse, is doing daily wrist stretching and strengthening exercises.

I'd say an ergonomic trackball is the only real solution, and yes they can be used for gaming just fine. But beware, trackballs are the real pit of sorrow, and I'm not ready to jump into it, yet.

If we're talking someone that grew up with consoles and has experience using thumb toggles, I would say it's a much easier transition than for someone used to using a standard KB and mouse. Also, since most trackballs still put your forearm in a pronated horizontal position, which is one of the main causes of nerve irritation due to the forearm bones twisting over one another, it's not as feasible a solution as you might think.

I would strongly advise against buying a 125 Hz mouse for gaming.

When I say trackballs, I mean non-thumb trackballs. But the ones that force you to roll the ball with 2 or more fingers, and don't mind using all of them. They're much healthier as your fingers are more active than with any other solution.

Yeah I forgot about those, and they might offer more precision using fingers vs thumb, but when your fingers are very active while the forearm is pronated, that could exacerbate carpel tunnel pain, which is one of the primary reasons people look for horizontal mouse alternatives.
