DOOM: The Dark Ages Performance Benchmark

I see, thanks for clarifying.

Though, this is still an oddly tight knit family of cards which are all supposed to be further apart (well, at the very least the 9070 XT should be slower than the 5070 Ti and the 9070 shouldn't be so close to the XTX, but neither should the 4070 Ti S). The 9000 cards and the 40 series appear to be outdoing themselves.

The game has baked in RT right ? No way to turn it off so 9000 being close to 7000 series tracks.

worst optimisation ever seen.
Also looks blurry mess.
What are they thinking...
who plays 60 fps in 2k25...
Total disappointment, my day is ruined
It will be better, path tracing is coming and everyone will like it at 50 fps on RTX 5090, 200 fps with fake frames.
It's very frustrating it didn't have path tracing already, i mean people already complain AMD is doing too well, we can't have that, the world has gone to hell.

RTX 5070 is slower than RTX 3080 and performs basically the same as Vanilla RTX 4070 it's just embarrassing :laugh:

Gen to Gen improvements.

RX 9070 XT is ~63% faster than RX 7800 XT
RTX 5070 is ~1.5% faster than RTX 4070
Cause surely the 9070xt replaced the 7800xt. I could buy the latter 549$ at launch, the former was around 900$. Lol, man, what the actual...

It's pure luck there are people that actually bought a RX 9070 XT for MSRP i bought it nearly a month ago for 670€. RTX 5070 is such a weak gpu that it's usually sells very close to MSRP. Price is good because performance is weak if we look deeper. No one wants those peanuts for higher price. RTX 5070 reminds me RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 Ti 16GB gpus price isn't low but actual hardware sucks hard.

Hopefully the upcoming B750 & B770(or C750 & C770?) will offer good performance!
Look at B580 if it will use the same architecture it probably will be as fast as RTX 4070 or RX 7800 XT and yes with enormous power draw.

RTX 3080 1440p - 60-62fps (1% lows / FPS) on maxed out 'Ultra Nightmare' and without upscaling.... TAKE MA MONEHHHH!!!

I could do with this dose of blood soaked madness, a rampage through Hell and back just to unwind from the real chaos we call LIFE.

I mean thats better than what I was expecting based on Indiana Jones so I'm fine with this. 'I have zero issues using DLSS Quality so thats what I will do as usual'
The game will be on gamepass on day 1 and since I have that as a gift I will be playing it there right away.:)

No worries, i heard the game will get some path tracing/Nvidia money so AMD will run at 1 fps and every Nvidia GPU from rtx 3060 to RTX 5090 will beat anything AMD has from now till the end of times.
Oh well.

They can keep trying but as long as AMD continues to improve their hardware and drivers then games like this seep through and raise questions.

Interestingly though, looking at one of the stores in the UK it seems like NVIDIA is selling 50 series cards with Doom as a bundle. So I'm guessing this was some type of promotion for them hence why they asked some reviewers like HWU to test this game specifically. Results aren't exactly convincing though.

Game itself looks worth a try anyways.

Going to be a game pass play for me too.

The price of the 5070 has dropped so much that it's no longer a piece of crap. Where I live, even the 9070 is 200 more expensive, and I don't even want to talk about the 9070xt. There's more and more evidence that the 4080 is better than the 5070ti, and the price of the 5070ti is finally starting to go down.

My RX 7900 XT looking alright for 3440x1440. If my estimate is correct mid 60s without FSR.

It honestly doesn’t look THAT superior to the previous iteration of idTech to warrant the performance degradation
I think it might be more due to the game play and level design than outright visual impressiveness. The levels are much larger and 'wider', and there are apparently much much more enemies too.

That said... they are working with nVidia on bringing PathTracing to this game. Which honestly.... kinda disappointing. They are ID software, part of what they do is develop a game engine,... they shouldn't need nVidia to do it at all and they should be making there own custom solution.
Other than Indiana Jones (which is hardly a paragon of optimization), I can't think of any other game that uses the Vulkan API and includes path tracing. So with this being the 2nd Vulkan game (and first on the new id engine), I'm not surprised they're working closely with Nvidia to incorporate path tracing. Probably working with Khronos as well to improve pure RT and PT performance in Vulkan.

I want to see finished Doom Dark Ages - DLSS Enhanced "Transformer Model" with Ray Reconstruction, Super Resolution, Frame Generator and Path Training. Let the benchmarks begin!

Cheers

While I've had some issues getting 8 GB cards, like the RTX 5060 Ti 8 GB, to run well in Indiana Jones, this is a non-issue in DOOM. Unlike Indiana Jones, the game will not crash when out of VRAM. I tested and confirmed that it is able to use system main memory as overflow when out of graphics VRAM. Of course the game will now run slower, but it won't crash anymore. You can see this in our 8 GB vs 16 GB results at 4K, which clearly show that cards with 8 GB are handicapped, but they continue running, which gives you a chance to adjust the settings. At max settings, at 1080p, which is the right resolution for RTX 5060 Ti, both 16 GB and 8 GB achieve the same performance, the same is true for 1440p with DLSS Quality.

It means the indiana jones game is just badly optimized and crashes due to expecting to have more available VRAM then there is. More VRAM only increases performance in situations where it does not have to pull from RAM. This whole discussion about 8GB can't in 2025 is nonsense - the game runs perfectly fine at 1080p / 1440p at maxed out settings.

According to HUB's review "there is no noticeable difference between all 6 presets (Ultra nightmare to low!!)" "even looking at the native presentation in game they all look exactly the same". "maybe the distant shadow quality is slightly better on ultra nightmare vs medium but it's really hard to tell" "then we have the low preset and again the visual presentation is extremely similar to the ultra nightmare".

He then proceeds and craps on the 8gb (nvidia gpu, of course, amd doesn't make 8gb gpus :) ) because it runs out of vram at ultra nightmare. You know, the ultra nightmare that looks "extremely similar to low". :roll::roll:

- I'm not sure if the 8GB and 16GB Numbers are mixed up in the WHQD and 1080p diagram. Maybe some special super overclocked 5060ti with 8gb was used. Note: I only looked at the numbers - not text

WHQD
5060 ti
8GB = 53.0 FPS
16GB = 50.6 FPS

FAKE 4k
5060 ti
8GB = 13.3 FPS
16GB = 27.6 FPS
Less memory chips, more power for the GPU.

Let's be honest here, this game looks just like Doom eternal, you have to pixel peep to find improvements and the usual "reflections" we need more reflections so Nvidia can sell overpriced GPU's.
Now, compare this crap with Rockstar GTA VI that runs on basically RX6700/PS5, sure it's a 1.5-2 billion $ game but still.
It will be a sad day for fanboys, Nvidia and AMD when that game launches ONLY on PS5 and XBOX, PC rigs equipped with monstrous power hungry GPU's will look obsolete with their pathetic path tracing games, insane lighting accuracy and reflections just so Nvidia and AMD can sell even more expensive GPU's so it can run cyberpunk 2077 in overdrive.
Games need more ray tracing/reflections and less art direction, to sell gpu's of course.

"The driver situation has been quite fluid for this review. First, AMD and NVIDIA provided a set of drivers (25.10.09.01 and 576.31), but later updated them with new versions (25.5.1 WHQL and 576.40 Prerelease). When comparing performance data with other reviews, make sure to check whether old drivers are used. For the NVIDIA driver update we measured a performance increase of around 5%, which is pretty significant. NVIDIA confirmed that these performance improvements will be included in the public game-ready driver release on Monday, May 12th, 2025."
HUB knew about this, that's why they used the previous drivers (576.31)
It's HUB at the end of the day.

Do you really think AMD bought them and stupid shit like that ? they did a comparison between 5070 ti and rx 9070 xt, Nvidia murdered the AMD card, AMD lost in so many games is not even funny.

No, I don't.
