What are you playing?

Not like DOOM Eternal or DOOM 2016 anymore. Things are much smoother and more fun to move around with many enemies fighting in bigger areas than previous games, puzzles are quick and easy. Now there is some story in the game and the focus is on big, fast battles. I like it better than D.E and D.2016
good, because i hate very much on doom eternal, there is too much puzzles on that......

that's a true remaster, those graphics are next level.

i am just using lumen software RT high, not using lumen hardware RT at all...

I booted up DOOM: The Dark Ages last night thinking it wasn't even going to run because I installed it on 870 QVO likely the worlds slowest SSD lulz and to my surprise it not only booted but ran fine. wtf is up with the min requirements saying it NEEDS a NVMe SSD? Oh well, I thought I was going to put it on a 970 EVO but then I remembered I put that disk in my HTPC as the boot disk.....doh! Since it is the only NVMe SSD I have and it's in use I bought a 4TB Acer GM7000 specifically for this game thinking it needed it.......oh well.....I'll move the game over to it once it arrives. Will be interesting to see if there is really any noticeable difference.

I also play on a controller. I also always play with an inverted Y-axis on the right stick. You mouse and keyboard elitists prolly just read that and be like
Steve Brule What GIF

If anyone watched me play a first person shooter on a mouse and keyboard, you would be embarrassed for me.....I would be embarrassed for me . It is not a pretty sight! :fear: I honestly tried to make the switch when the Halo MCC came out and I doubt I spent more than 4 hours trying.....I was like.....this is a lost cause lol

The mech warrior type part (stage 3) felt pretty "gimmicky" and even more so since I know this has been something Hugo Martin has wanted to do for over a decade now. Felt more like he was checking something off his bucket list than being something we really needed in the DOOM universe. I much prefer the traditional combat rather than sloshing around a gazillion ton suit playing a rock 'em sock 'em robots mini game for each enemy.

Comparing to Eternal.....

I would say the shield saw has replaced the grenades. we could normally use a grenade to falter heavy demons to go in for blood punches and glory kills. but now the shield saw puts heavies into a falter state

shield dash in a way has replaced the meat hook since it brings about not only a way to damage/kill enemies but also to traverse across the maps which was the meat hooks main reason for it existing in Eternal

the toggling of walk and run is a good return of form from the original non 3D games

One quirk I noticed was it would not let me toggle HDR on in game.....or....it did, but then gave me an error message immediately saying HDR was not supported on my hardware (It totally is supported). Seems this is bugged out like how Resident Evil 4 Remake is. I cannot toggle HDR on in game unless it is already toggled on in Windows. Bit of an inconvenience and this is not how the previous ID TECH engine worked so that was a step backwards in my opinion.

They changed the name of "glory kill" to "executions" in my opinion. And these show up pretty frequent too, the purple ring that forms over enemies and shrinks to visualize the time remaining to use the move. It kinda feels like a lateral adjustment to me. They are not better or worse but is just another twist to the previous glory kill system.
Yeah I need inverted Y as well on 'mouselook' or it all goes to shit on a controller for me. No idea why.

Cyberpunk 2077 PL (I've already done like 90% of jobs) and Diablo II Resurrected (just started lvl 18 paladin). I'm waiting for Dying Light Beast.

I normally wouldn't play a FPS game with a controller, but Risk of Rain 2 not enjoyable for your hands with a keyboard. That ramping difficulty and sprint key requirement is not enjoyable in a prolonged game session. It's a bit tricky getting use to playing with a controller for the type of game it is, but far more comfortable.

Finished a story of a badass last night:

Now time to start another:laugh::

The new mechanics were a bit weird at first but the more I play it the better it feels like the combat is really fluid once you get the hang of it and I assume it will get much crazier later on with a bunch of upgrades and whatnot.

If you're playing DOOM on an nvidia card, you can redeem this slayer skin via nvapp. I thnik you can only do it today 15/5/25 though

yeah, I really like them. parrying shots, shield attacks and gauntlet finishers are really cool.

Played 2 chapters, it's a different experience than Eternal, better for me. Choosing to go for ray tracing by default was a good decision from id, game looks better than previous one - especially the GI and enemy models. Eternal looked too polished and shiny for me.

I feel that level scaling is better too, Hurt Me Plenty is just right for casual fun without being too easy or too difficult.

Just finished Akumajo Dracula (aka Super Castlevania IV) from the Castlevania Anniversary Collection (PC).
I can't remember how many times I've beaten this game ... around 20 maybe ?
It's one of my favorite game, easily in my Top 5 ever. It's perfect from A to Z.
I play it every year I think. I know it almost by heart.
The mood, the music, the gameplay less rigid than the og Castlevania.
It's one of the best remaster game ever (hey, even in 1991 !), yes this is a remake of the original Castlevania !
I really like the idea of the "controlable" whip. Too bad it wasn't reused in the sequels.
It's the easiest Castlevania so far, even if 2-3 passages are a bit difficult.

Love this scene. I live near a forest and everytime we've got big grey clouds, I think of this passage :)

Castlevania Anniversary Collection 11_05_2025 16_52_57.png

That's why I precised Akumajo Dracula, in this level the liquid is Blood and not green slime as in Super Castlevania IV !

Castlevania Anniversary Collection 12_05_2025 20_28_33.png

Bosses aren't so difficult, thereis always a trick to kill them (almost) safely.

This level is an ode to self control. Seems impossible at first but not that long, and almost easy when you know it.

Done 4 chapters for now since I don't have the time for more today but yeah quite different than Eternal or 2016.
Currently I'm playing on the default Ultra-Violence but sometimes I do get too cocky and get myself killed but the overall gameplay is very satisfying.
This version of the Slayer is crazy, I like how they made him actually feel heavy like you can just jump from heights and destroy all of the smaller enemies with the impact force alone. 'sounds are also pretty good in the game in general'

Also even tho I'm not really pulling more than ~60-85 FPS with tweaked settings+DLSS Quality 'its Transformer by default so its pretty good' the game feels really smooth to play and there are zero stutters which is really good to see from a 2025 game. 'I've expected no less from this tho'

Due to time constraints and other matters, my interest in games have gotten low. However, I still play and tries to finish in 3 - 6 months period :peace:. Unsuccessful so far:D. My last game was Red Dead Redemption 2.

DOOM ETERNAL started in 2023. It hasn't finished yet. Reached Nekravol Level. Now looking to finished this game by next weekend max. Plays only on Weekend.

Also playing Ghost of Tsushima. Started in Aug 2024. Currently on Act 3: Kill Khotun Khan. Plays only on weekend becasue it takes time to explore the village.

I played Spec OPS: The Line quite a long time ago. Feeling urged inside to play this game again just for old time sake, so started it last week.

@The N spec ops is one of my all time favs, ^^

on-topic: Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, its decent so far, stuck on the first boss though., prob wouldn't recommend this game to most people though, i'm just bored

@Space Lynx Nice. I remembered I played only one installment in Prince of persia series; it was either sands of time or warrior within, but that was a great experience.

sands of time is 10/10 from me, played it on launch day on playstation 2 and the original xbox (rental store so i rented games back then) warrior within is a solid 9/10 from me, would have been a 10/10 but it was a little janky at the time i played it (again ps2 era) i still loved it though, great OST, Warrior Within was probably the first ever game OST I rocked out to

sands of time was a masterpiece. i really hope the remake coming out next year does it justice

I've finished my final play through of The Last of Us Part II on Grounded +. In this game NG+ has a mix of carrying over all your weapon upgrades and skills, and also puts weapons in your inventory before the point they get unlocked in the game, but also has harder enemy AI. This was the only mode I was beaten by Abby in the final fight, twice in fact, though I prevailed the 3rd try. I was able to pull off the best sneaks I'd ever done in this mode in certain spots, but there were also some tough battles and narrow escapes after alerting enemies.

I'd been putting off going back to Ghostrunner 2 for some time, as the first section on the Cyberbike is very difficult with lots of tunnels you have to speed through, dodging hazards as you go. I play it on Keyboard and Mouse, and what's worse is the bike steers a bit twitchy with keyboard. None the less, I got through that section and found that the outdoor sections on the bike that follow are quite fun. You have more room to move, and there are a lot of ramps you can get good jump distance with when clearing unrideable gaps or merging left or right to other sections of highways with guardrails.

There's also laser obstacles that only hurt organic material, so Jack can jump off the bike, then tether back to it with the gap jammer. You can jump over other objects too, like the big bots that spray a wide lethal beam at you, then let the bike run into them and kill them. The bike also has front mounted guns that aid when there's swarms of hostile creatures in your path or enemies with guns. You can even use the jump-off-the-bike feature to get to some valuable items, like memory shards.

Ghostrunner 2 also brings in new creatures. The first game only had little crawly ones, this one adds some tentacle ones called Schismids that fling toxic blob bombs at you. They will also quickly burrow to another spot if you don't get to them quickly enough, and some former humans that are bioengineered to follow orders, sort of a zombie army. There are varying types of these, from unarmed ones that swat at you, to some that carry guns, and some even with jet packs that fly, though I've not seen those yet.

The Cybervoid brings in some new puzzles that seem simple at first regarding a set number of different colored objects you destroy in a certain sequence, but instead of just making choices like the puzzles in GR1, you only have so much time to do it. It also has some platforming puzzles requiring timing that can be a bit tricky. I'm still a bit green at getting to know and implementing the skills and MB upgrade chips. I may end up watching a tutorial video on it if I can find a good one. For now though I've got that good game vibe all over again, and am excited to see what's around every corner every time I launch it.

Perhaps, but most people don't replace their displays unless they have a very good reason too. HDR just isn't that important of a feature to the general public yet.
Not most people own a 4090 , same when I got my 1080Ti back 2017 , just like different levels GPU , same for HDR , have two TV, both HDR , but world of difference 200 dollars vs 700 dollars on sale from 1100 dollars. .https://youtu.be/9PMs1TyUIg4

New Game Plus on Final Fantasy X-2 HD, found a website which gives a checklist from a savefile (even a PS3 savefile via USB drive) to see what's missing from a 100% completion. I miss only two things from chapter 4, should be an easy-peasy (and I can get other Iron Duke easily since Trema was pretty easy already on the first playthrough)

Starfield superior to FO4... thats probably the biggest insult to FO4 anyone could ever make. I just walked through Oblivion again and its... really... so clear nothing ever changes in Bethesda games. Same shit different paint. Okay maybe they hired a few more voice actors than 3 this time... but... every time... its floaty combat, a fcked up progression and combat system, faces that look like ass and quests that bug on you left & right. But oh oh the immersion... the world they created... yeah. Its true, the world is there. But Ive come to realize that these worlds are mere empty promises and every minute you play youre just hoping those promises are gonna be true. Maybe this playthrough? Maybe the next sequel? But nope.

See this is my point. Starfield might be all that, but as polished as it can be. I find the combat better than Fallout 4 (which was pretty decent). Faces look weird but ok. Progression is also very much OK. Quests aren't bugging you, a great deal of sidequests are picked up by just walking past a guard mentioning something. Even fast travel (which is what they implement when the game is too boring to walk through twice) makes sense! You're traveling between stars! I play Starfield a lot in spurts (after release I got something like 90h, fall 2024 I got that up to 150h and currently I'm at 160h) and it ... makes sense to me. Skyrim didn't make sense, most of it anyway. Their Fallouts were abominations unto sense, but Starfield? It works for me. I have many thoughts on why Starfield and not say Skyrim, and a dream is to write ten thousand words on it.

What is interesting is that my enjoyment of Bethesda games are essentially the inverse of what most people seem to think of them. All of the things you say have been true since at least Oblivion, but you (as in "you people" as in "you Bethesda-enjoyers" or "Todd-wankers") played and sang their praise anyway, to my bewilderment. And then you hate their final form, the game that takes all of those things and make them as good as they can be? I honestly don't get it.

Anyway playing Starfield ATM and I still believe it would have been better with some really heavy paperwork stuff. Not even a minigame, make diplomacy and admin a part of the game. When I come to power I will make it a rule. Ohh you wanna play Call of Duty son? You can, but between matches you have to make proper AARs, complete with paperwork.

That's probably because most gamers have their budget swallowed up by building a powerful box but neglect (mostly) the peripherals & especially the monitor which ultimately is the end result of all that box power invested in. It's a pity in a way, cause most if not all gamers would enjoy decent HDR support at the monitor end. I know in Starfield for example, it makes the game really come alive but duplicating it here in screenshots does not do it justice.
