Ryzen Owners Zen Garden

Looks like i will be joining the red camp shortly, with a ryzen 7 7800X3D and a Asus TUF Gaming B650M-E WIFI, got board, CPU coming tomorrow, and ram a couple of days after. After been on Intel so long, anything i need to know?
As others said, stick with 2 sticks of RAM (pun intended). Also, 6000 MHz kits should work up to 48 GB capacity. 64 GB is a hit or miss. Above 64 GB, forget it. Once you've got it, enable EXPO, and check your SoC voltage. It should stay at, or below 1.3 V. 1.2 is usually fine. Other than that, smooth sailing. :)

What CPU cooler do you have?

I just made the jump to the 2950X from the 1900X. Keeping it stock but VERY tight timings on the RAM. Feels a bit snappier. Now I can move to Windows 11 at some point though.

I'm using my D15 chromax blacck, got the adapter kit so it fits the AM5 board. my ram is corsair vengeance DDR5 CMK32GX5M2B6000C30 2x16gb, hopefully will work ok

That sounds good. 6000 MHz is not a problem with a 2x16 GB kit, and the D15 is overkill for the 7800X3D. Enjoy! :)

I read reviews of this chip and it is a fair bit better than the 12700k for gaming. Just a bit nervous of the reinstall, it has been a while since i did a platform change. Looking forward to seeing what X3D is like, maybe at some point ccan jump to the 9800X3D

You mean Windows reinstall? I haven't done that since 2019 probably.

The 9800X3D is not a lot better than the 7800X3D, but it consumes a lot more power. I'm definitely not gonna bother with it. Much better to save up for Zen 6 and enjoy the 7800X3D in the meantime, imo.

I have this as my home server setup, quad ECC U-DIMM 3200MT's and its rock solid!! I used this as a workstation as well, fed it with 450W and its a monster overclocker!!

I'm using non-ECC. 4X8GB B-Die 3200. Used 1US's Ryzen DRAM timing tool and selected the fast settings and works great.

IMC on this chip is a lot better than the one on my 1900X.

Gigabyte has crap voltage settings though. Chunks up to 1.5V at times. Not sure why. So running a manual offset to bring it down to 1.45V max.

Hi guys, any proggies i need to install? Have no idea about what i need for a AMD setup. Thanks

What's "proggies"?

Oh oh no post got a dram light showing

9800X3D could use more power because it runs 200MHz faster out of the box, and then add your +200 from PBO.. and you are almost half a GHz faster than 7000 series.

I had to switch ram to grey slots it seems. Booting ok now. Also look at my genius with bent pins, got the bottom m.2 to see the WD black 1tb in it. Proud of myself.

Now to see what’s what in the bios. We’re will I find the soc voltage and no more than 1.3v correct?

Thanks for the help with this guys

Is this ok? Set at 1.2v manual were is EXPO at?

Computers have gotten safer.. I have done that a few times on every gen of DDR, but the first time I did it was with SDR, and I smoked a stick like that lol..

I don't even know why I lolled at that.. I still don't find it funny, though my buddy who was watching still mentions it every 5 years or so.

Yep, that's it. :)

But don't set it to 1.2 V straight away. First, switch EXPO on, then see where it settles. If it settles to 1.3 V or below on Auto, you don't need to do a thing (although you can still set it to 1.2 V manually if you wish).

I couldn't find EXPO in the bios, board is in specs. Any other bios settings i need to set?
Thanks

EXPO should be on the AI Tweaker menu that you posted a screenshot of, just a bit above.

And nope, you don't need to touch anything else, unless you wish to tinker with fan curves, boot priorities and such.

I use a special Beta Bios with Re-Bar options baked in, not sure what your voltage setting issues are but mine works perfectly, I requested for the special BIOS since I told them that I use Intel Arc GPU for that setup, I use the Gigabyte X399 Aorus Extreme motherboard with the TR 2950X
