My x1600 pro is in full effect and has been happily serving me for a year, until summer when I replace it with a shiny 3850 Pro. I found Call Of Duty to be extremely scalable for a late 2007 game, I as able to achieve 1400x900 resolution with all the textures and smoke edges enabled, however I had to turn Anti-Aliasing off to achieve playable frame rates. However I found the game more enjoyable at 1280x1024 with 2x AA Anti-Aliasing.
To give you an indication of the 1600 Pro's effectiveness, I received Half-Life 2: Episode Two for Christmas and I can max the game out completely, 1400x900 with all the advanced settings on very-high (except AA). A few months back I downloaded the Unreal Tournament 3 demo and I was able to max out the graphical settings although I cant remember what resolution I was playing but most probably 1280x1024. I suppose I was disappointed with the Crysis Demo because I was only able to play it at low settings despite other new games such as HL Episode two, UT3 and COD4 running at high settings at playable frame rates, why cant Crysis customise their engine?
1280x1024 actually uses more pixels than 1440x900, but not by much. Those are two comparable resolutions for comparing performance between 4:3 and 16:10 ratios.
As long as you have playable frames for your taste, that's awesome dude!
If you wanna know what your FPS are in CoD4, just press "~' button for console at main menu and type:
cg_drawFPS 1
There are a few options under this tag, 1 activates minimal info w/FPS and is what I use. Keep an eye on it...oh yeah and FPS turns red below 60FPS lol. I usually average 70's range...but I do get fluxuation in MP games, and different maps. Overall though, the game plays great!
Just so you all know, W1z has released my CoD4 PC Review over at GamePowerUp!, click here. Let me know what you all think! I put a lot of time and effort into the review and so did other GPU! Staff.
Also, check out GPU, I want to see more threads like this over there! Yes you have to register over there, just register your same name as TPU and it's all good!
