If your like me and it pisses you off to hear that halo and its sequels are the best games ever made and even surpass hl in game play. You tell them about HL2 and the episodes and are greeted by some excuse for Halo 3 lacking. I find it's easier to handle such people when you have information prepared.
WHY HALF-LIFE 2 is good:
1. Very good story
2. Great acting to back up story.(These people deserve awards for their hardwork)
3. Fun gameplay
4. The gravity gun
5. Great A.I. the strider's kicked my ass in hl2 when you have to cross the courtyard

WHY HALF-LIFE 2 IS BETTER THAN HALO 3
1. Anyone who has ever played a FPS can beat Halo 3 in 6 hours. Half-Life 2, including the Episodes, is about 14-15 hours of non stop fun.
2. Unlike Half-Life Halo spent months showing these videos of things you never see in-game
3. Actually conveys emotion when important things happen. In Halo 3 two main characters die and it's treated as if it was just another NPC Marine being killed.
4. I've played Halo several times and I can't think of any moments that really stick out in my mind where as there are several for Half-Life 2
a. The chopper chasing you through the Canals as bullets
and rockets splash all around you.
b. The Strider battles
c. Being pursued by choppers as Zombies jump on the hood
of your Muscle car
d. Killing soldiers with household items being launched
through the air
e. The ending of Episode 2.
f. AND MANY MANY MORE!!!
5. The most important issue. In Halo you are constantly forced into slo-mo so Cortana can spout off some useless line. If they had a relevance to the story I wouldn't mind these moments as much.

THEIR ARGUMENT

"Well the multiplayer is really good!!"
Personally I prefer a good single player over a great multiplayer.

Also consider this Bungie spent several years making Halo 3. In those years all they could make is a 6 hour campaign that seems like it was written by one of the employes children, and the multiplayer only has a few minor tweaks between it and the Halo 2 multiplayer. Come on people open your eyes.

Hope this will help in getting those poor lost souls to SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!
If this isn't enough I could recount my Halo experience for anyone who wants it.

Now you might be saying "Well müffin mann aren't you doing the same thing as those Halo people by running down something they like?" I answer with this I waited four years to play Half-Life Two ever since I read about it in the 2004 E3 edition of some magazine. I also waited a few years (or so ) for Halo 2 after the (now that I think about rather crappy) end of Halo 2 also they just threw in the brutes with out a damm explanation wtf was that. HL2 left me with a feeling of contentment and Halo 2&3 left me with a feeling of great disappointment. It's time for payback slander style.

i did like the first one to clarify

Oh God, I hate to see where this thread goes. I agree with but lol...

*Completely ignores content of first post and responds to poll*

I loved Halo 1. Half Life series is awesome. Halo 2: dual SMGs. Need I say more?

I loved HL2, Halo, but Halo 2 = not as good gameplay. My friends and I still play the Halo because it have better gameplay.

The only thing Halo 1 was missing was an internet gameplay (which could and was done by xbconnect back in the day).

the story of half life2 is obviously better than halo 2/3 although i do like halo 1s story line the most. saying there wasnt any stand out moments in halo3 is bollocks what about the last level escaping across a falling apart space station. overall single player in hl2 is better if a bit too easy. I died around 50 times playing halo 3 on legendary and in hl2 is less than 5

halo (the first one) did have a good story line, i did spend a lot of my time with my friend playing through it on all the difficulty levels, they did a good job there but alot of the enemies we just stupid (bad ai) i mean the grunts were useless so were the hunters the only thing that posed a real threat on legendary were the elites, but hl2 story line completely blows halo's out of the water, halo had a good idea they just completely ruined it with 2 and 3, although halo did have one good point above all else you could kill the marines, and after you killed like two of them they would fight back that was cool

I agree... halo had replay value... my friend and I beat it on all difficulties...

I didn't read it, but I'm glad someone feels the need to worry about other people's taste in video games. I voted HL2 by the way haha

HL all the way!!!

half-life 2 could be a bith longer.. like hl1

they were useless along with teh "battle rifle" i mean the clock in css does more damage and ony burst fire wtf thats just lame

how can you compare the two they are completely different games, ones realism ones deathmatch styled

I don't doubt that Half Life is a great series, but I have never played it. I own Halo 1(PC), and have played Halo 2 and 3. I still love Halo 1, and I love Halo 3. The only problems I have with Halo 3 is the online lobby, single neddler, and no 4 player co-op on one system. I almost couldn't stand to drive anything in Halo 2, because everything felt slow and ultra heavy. Halo 2 also had a jerky, snapping feeling to it. Thankfully Halo 3 fixed that. When Halo 3 came out I almost went and blew all of my money to get a 360, but my buddy did that before I did, so I just spent a couple of nights over his house playing co-op and the multiplayer. I would play Half Life, but I'm just not interested enough to go buy it.

I am for Halo all the way. I liked Half Life 2, but the Halo series is in a league of it's own.

I think what I like about halo, aside from it's gameplay, is the story. With Half Life, it has been done before, secret government test facility opens portal and one lone scientisit, goes from zero to hero and saves the fuckin day.

With Halo, you play against a force that is superior to you in every way, so you have to think your way through each mission. You take someone that has been trained to be the best and he is still out gunned.

As for gameplay, Half life was extremely flawed. For example, there was no lean feature to take advantage of the cover that you can create with the gravity gun. Since you cant you cover, you are constantly taking damage and are trying to find medpacks.

Another thing is the lack of enemy variety, how many times can you kill a combine soldier before it gets old? At least Halo always has the full compliment of Elites, Jackals and Grunts, each with it's own challenge.

Don't get me wrong, Half Life 2 is a GREAT game, it was really fun, but nothing has ever hooked my attention like Halo, on top of that, I have a good friend that plays co-op with me, so it makes the Halo experience even more fun.

Edit:
Oh and one other thing, I don't have to worry about some asshole hacking in and stealing my copy of Halo and then having to go through the hassle of trying to retrive it.

hl's story line is much more unique in so many ways also keep in mind that the combine is an alien race that is far surperior in every aspect, hl beat halo to the whole surperior alien race thing, by a few years, also hl isnt just all run and gun (like halo) there are actually obstacles you have to get past by creating your own route with the enviorment or finding other creative ways to advance in the story, also as for the whole leaning thing last i checked halo didnt have a lean feature either and they didnt have a dynamic cover system, where as in hl you could use your enemies as cover if you wanted to, as for lack of enemy varitey last i checked there were more variety of enemies in hl then there were in halo, not only that they were smarter, the grunts jackels, hunters, they were just stupid, sometimes the flood and elites could give you a run for your money on legendary, halo is much more of a multiplayer game then anything, also i keep finding new interesting ways to kill a combine soldier and it hasnt gotten old

No Halo didn't have a lean feature, but there is also no health past the first game, so you can take hits and your shields recharge and you can do that continueously without problem. With Half Life, since it uses a health based system, you NEED to be able to use cover.

Half Life feels like a souped up Doom, not that it's a bad thing, but it's still the exact same story as the original Doom. Halo has that to an extent, but it was largely fixed in Halo 3.

You apparently haven't played Halo 3 on Heroic or Legendary because the AI will tear you a new one. For example, grunts will go suicide by attaching grenades to themselves and bum rushing you.

Biggest Problem I have with Halo is their maps, they all look so god damn alike and I have no clue where I'm going.

Id rather play COD4 for Multi player and HL2, EP1, EP2 over Halo anything anyday. In fact I refuse to play Halo 3 when me and my friends get togther. In fact lol we all refused to play it cause we wanted to play COD4 even though they all like Halo.

im glad you have have health in half life because the shield in halo is just cheesy, you pretty much invincible, if you get hurt all you have to do is hide in a corner for a sec and bam your shield is all nice and good again, i will admit in hl there are a few things that would have been nice (cover wise) but still you dont really need it when you can just pick up a wall and use that for cover, also there are major differences in the story line between hl and doom, i see how you can make a connection but there are just to many major differences in story lines (doom and hl) to even come close to saying that they are exactly the same, no i havnt played halo3 on legendary after heroic i didnt feel the need, the disappointment had already set in, but i still maintain my position on that elites and the flood are the only things that ever really gave me a run for my money

Lol, the conversation always goes the exact same with Halo lovers and Halo haters. I feel that we must agree to disagree :toast:

i agree to that neither of us are going to change each others minds, well at least we had a nice argument::laugh::roll::laugh:

Halo was alright, but then we got Gordon and his crowbar agian, and its not Halo what?

Seriously master cheif has nothing on Freeman, I mean Freeman can beat the hell out of a guradian antlion with a crowbar, all master chief does it shoot bullets and run away, not to mention he gets that exoskelton and bio enhancements, all Freeman gets is his HEV suit which offers armor and minor protection from the enviroment.

Half Life 1 set the bar that Halo follows, it forever changed the FPS. IVe played Halo a million times, space marine kicks alien butt. Come on, Halo might be entertianing if it wasnt for the fact, its tedious, go into a room, shoot everything move on. Where are the puzzles, where is the need to problem solve?

Half Life you start with a crowbar, and its your mainstay when your out of ammo. As for variety, there is. Stalker, Combine, Ant Lions, Head Crabs, Zombies, and Hunters (HL2 EP2 only) Half Life 1 had Head Crabs, Zombies, Houndeyes, Bullsquids, Vortigans, Marines, and hell you had to fight Ninja's.

Granted Half Life 1 is still the best FPS ever made, Half Life 2 and its episodes come in as number 2. As for being outgunned, WTF do you call a crowbar vs 20 armed combine with SMG's or an Antion Guradian? Half Life makes you think about your next move and the one after that, its not go in shoot everything and move on.

The enemy varitey isn't so much the problem as they aren't mixed together. You get Combine for the first few hours, then you get the Zombies for a few more hours, then you get the ant lions and so on. With Halo, they give you the best they have to offer right from the get go, on the first mission, you are facing their best.

I think that one problem with people and Halo is that they don't crank the difficulty up. I hear all the time that the Chief is invincible, try on Legendary and see how invincible you are. Halo 2 is near impossible to beat in single player on Legendary In Halo 3, if you play on anything less than Heroic, then you are missing out BIG TIME and it probably would be boring as hell.

I agree that Half Life 1 did set the bar back in the day, hell I used to play for hours, but Halo has the intangible for me. I will give you a good example with Bioshock and Crysis. Bioshock had innovative story, 40+ hours of game time, addicting gameplay, and better attention to detail. Crysis on the other hand had good graphics and gameplay, very little story, and it was short, yet I liked Crysis better than Bioshock. Something about the way it all comes together is my kind of game.

Same thing goes with Half Life and Halo. Half Life, on paper, is probably the better game, yet there is something about Halo that appeals to me more than Half Life. Bottom line is that polls don't mean anything, sales do and last time I checked Halo holds the record for sales.
