AMD today announced the availability of the industry's preeminent performance desktop platform, the AMD 790GX. Packing a host of innovations, the AMD 790GX integrates advanced performance tuning for AMD Phenom processors, plus ATI Radeon HD 3300 graphics - the world's fastest motherboard graphics processor (mGPU) - to take media aficionados beyond HD. In addition to AMD validation, independent testing of the AMD 790GX chipset shows significant increases in AMD Phenom processor performance via the introduction of Advanced Clock Calibration technology.

Versatile graphics options include ATI Hybrid CrossFireX technology, which pairs the on-board ATI RadeonTM HD 3300 graphics with a discrete graphics card from either of the ATI Radeon HD 3400 series or ATI Radeon HD 2400 series graphics cards; or ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU technology, to enable multiple discrete graphics cards to work together to satisfy gamers demanding the best in 3D performance at maximum display resolution.

Significant tuning enhancements via Advanced Clock Calibration (ACC) on the new SB750 Southbridge introduced with the AMD 790GX make it the best platform for unlocking maximum AMD Phenom processor performance. Built-in ATI Radeon HD 3300 graphics provide an unmatched HD and gaming experience out of the box, with flexibility to scale to high performance configurations with the addition of one or two award-winning ATI Radeon HD 4800 series discrete graphics cards.

"Today's high definition, multimedia applications demand powerful graphics and multi-core processor performance and only AMD is delivering a truly balanced platform that accelerates these workloads," said Phil Eisler, corporate vice president and general manager, AMD Chipset Division. "The AMD 790GX chipset contains several AMD innovations that further improves both multi-core AMD Phenom processor performance and motherboard ATI Radeon graphics performance, the result of which are versatile performance PCs that deliver an eye-catching visual experience."

Scalable Game Performance Building on the momentum of the award-winning AMD 780G chipset, the AMD 790GX offers DirectX 10 game compatibility, allowing casual gamers to enjoy advanced game performance, truly lifelike 3D graphics and dynamic interactivity in the latest game titles. Gamers looking to scale their performance with the addition of a discrete graphics card can achieve superior performance with ATI Hybrid Graphics Technology, harnessing the graphics power of both a discrete graphics card and the motherboard GPU in tandem. Performance players can scale even further with ATI CrossFireX graphics technology, powering multiple ATI Radeon discrete graphics cards, to further improve 3D performance. In addition, the AMD 790GX chipset is the third generation AMD chipset to feature AMD Overdrive, a simple user interface that brings performance tuning to the masses. With the latest AMD OverDrive feature, Advanced Clock Calibration, gamers can push the limits of their AMD Phenom Black Edition processors to extreme frequencies for added performance.

The Ultimate Visual Experience for HD The AMD 790GX chipset features ATI Avivo HD, bringing full 1080p HD to performance PCs with support for the latest and most demanding formats, including VC-1, MPEG-2 and H.264. Featuring the AMD Unified Video Decoder (UVD), it directs HD playback to the better-suited GPU rather than to the CPU so consumers may enjoy a smooth and energy efficient HD viewing experience-virtually no lag, stalling or dropped scenes-in the latest Blu-ray titles. In addition, PC's built around the AMD 790GX help give consumers tremendous flexibility with a broad range of video interfaces, including DisplayPort, DVI and HDMI, and with support for AMD Surroundview consumers may connect to multiple monitors.

Ecosystem Support The AMD 790GX motherboard GPU is expected to be widely available from AMD's add-in-board partners, including ASUS, ASRock, BIOSTAR GROUP, DFI, ELITEGROUP COMPUTER SYSTEMS CO., LTD, Foxconn Technology Group, GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD, J&W Technology Ltd., Jetway Info. Co., LTD. and MSI Computer Ltd.

In addition, numerous system integrators are on board including: Alienware, CyberPower, Inc., iBUYPOWER Computer, MAINGEAR Computers, Rain Computers, Inc., Velocity Micro, Inc. and Vigor Gaming Computer.

"significant increases in AMD Phenom processor performance"
the significant part sounds interesting :) would love to see the difference and is it auto OC or what?

Don't know, but I saw one review on this new board where they were able to get significantly higher overclocks on Phenoms because of the new "ACC" technology (I think that was it). I'm talking about 3.3GHz with a 9850 where they would get 2.8 or 2.9 with another board.

i take these boards are superior to the 790x/fx mobos aka the new best amd has to offer?

if not why would i still go for an fx board? ( if we ignore the 4 PCI E slots like the MSI one )

it wont be long though till SB750 variants for the 790FX/X arrive though

I wonder how much 9600BE owners will be able to squeeze out with the 790GX's. If its enough, I will be replacing my K9A2 Plat 790FX for sure.

Your board is 16+16x PCIE and the 790GX is 8x+8x.

8x? NewEgg is listing the boards as 16x (URL). Does it turn in to 8x when using CrossFire? I'm sure its 16x CrossFire or not. If 3GHz is possible on air with a 9600BE I will be very happy. :)

8X 2.0 spec doesnt affect performance

Pree this

read that ^

There you go the answer for your question

Glad that I waited, defenitely I am picking up one when time (Nov -Dec next major build), before that time I think most of the boards will mature and will see more options. Woo Hoo.

I hope I can still push my 9500 to 3.0Ghz with the new boards. That thing is one cool running chip.

You're speaking of the Anandtech pre-review for this new technology and the final clocks ending up being 3.3Ghz on the 9600BE (2.3Ghz stock), 3.4Ghz on the 9850BE (2.5Ghz stock), and 3.5Ghz on the 9950BE (2.6Ghz stock). That is not the only thing this new tech can do, the most imporatant part (to me) is that you can achieve higher clocks with lower voltages meaning that for those having troubles with needing high volts you can get better clocks now w/o that. They were able to take a 9850BE and do 3.1Ghz on stock volts if I remember correctly.

More importantly this may help people like myself use even lower volts on their Phenoms (9850) to get higher/same clocks. Right now I only need 1.20v to boot at 3Ghz and 1.232v will get me stable enough for normal use but fail stability testing after 2 hours (air cooling no H2O). I'm interested if I can get those clocks stable at that voltage and even better if I can get my lower clock setups I use on even lower volts. I now use 2.9Ghz at 1.25v as my high power setting which is very power efficient, but i use settings like 2.6Ghz at 1.152v and 2.0Ghz at 0.972v which would be awesome if I could have the stock speed of 2.5Ghz on less than 1.0v or as close as I can get it. The lowest I can boot stock is 1.072v right now.

I'm buying the ASUS board (99% certain tomorrow) and I'll post results in the Phenom overclocking thread for those interested. There will also be an ASUS 790FX/SB750 board in there too.

K

Edit: Stock voltage on 9850BE is 1.30v

Alright, after having read the Anandtech links (thanks for these by the way) I must say Im thoroughly impressed with the SB 750 (me wants on me new mobo) and the specs of the motherboard. However, Im a tad disappointed in the audio like Anandtech is and a few other things. It seems like this board will clock like a dream at a damn good price point, which is a nice thing. Also, performance cache is pretty awesome, so thats cool. Major bummer on the hd 2400 or hd 3400 parts only though, kind of stupid for hybrid crossfire. All in all a nice change and I Cannot wait to see what the next IGP+FX board is like.

Im getting the 790FX + SB750 one from ASUS or MSI "not sure"
Which brand is better ASUS or MSI ?

ASUS is better. MSI is more of a budget brand, they are good but ASUS stuff is more expensive and better.

More expensive? yes:roll:
Better? Depends:nutkick:

Ohh for how long I'm waiting for this....

i wouldnt trust asus especially after owning a few, id have MSI over Asus Anyday.

On the other boards I cant say...But with a JEtway HA07 790GXmb, its 16x PCIe on PCIe1 when you install the included switch card in the PCIe2 slot.Otherwise its just 8x PCIe on both PCIe slots.
These boards rock..run cool..And OC like a dream. Not to mention the onboard REALTEC 8 ch. HD audio is simply amazing

You couldnt do better on an AMD platform if you're looking for a single slot GPU solution IMO.:rockout:
