So far i have been enjoying my x2 but i have a weird problem with TF 2...

I usually only get 120 fps, which i know its ok, but benchmarks have shown that the x2 can push it up to 200fps or more.

Now the PROBLEM is that whenever action gets hairy in the game, like 5 players attacking each other, my fps drop to 30, which is horrible.

Now, i dont know if the latest version of GPUZ reads the GPU activity correctly but while playing the graph in GPUZ shows 0% GPU activity and sometimes it jumps to 24% but that is it.

THANKS

Are you sure its not network lag?

Completely sure, network lag would not drop FPS, im running the command "cl_showfps 1" which shows the FPS of the game, also im playing on the same servers that i played with my 4870 and i didnt had this problem

Thanks

Hmm, wierd. Just out of interest. have you tried running the game with Crossfire disabled?

No i havent, i will try that once i get home, thanks.

I guess this is just to see if there is a defect with the Crossfire bridge right???

Hang on a sec, your Crossfiring a 3870 and 4870X2?

You know that doesnt work right?

i think thats your problem right there!

Actually im not crossfiring them, it wont even allow it, i also already tested taking out my 3870 just in case that was the problem, still got the same results.

Im only hoping someone here with a x2 can check their FPS while there are heavy fights on TF2, even lowering the resolution doesnt help, same FPS no matter what resolution.

Thanks

I don't understand, if you cannot crossfire the 3870...why do you have it in there?

he might be doing multi monitor display.

EDIT: You might want to check your PSU. your running a high end GPU with a midrange one, and that wattage looks a little low. Not sure though

Wow 3 monitors..You could be running an alarm company.

which dells are they? look good! might jus be a conflict with the game certain points mayb playing it at wknd and seemed fine with my single one hmmmmm

My FPS drops to around 30-40 during heavy battles then goes back up to 90-100 when there's no battle.

have you done a fresh install drivers since the 4870 3870 combo? u notice much improvement with the X2 over the 4870 apart from that one game?

Thanks man, thats what i needed to hear.

Now, thats weird isnt it, i mean whats the point of the x2 if it drops so much... i wonder if it is a driver problem?

Yep, uninstall all and reinstall 8.8 Cat

No idea mate. Only happens in TF2 though. Other games are constant 60+ FPS.

Yeah same here, im getting 250+ fps on DMC 4... Damn, i really play a lot of TF2 and i find it unbearable..

guess with great power comes great driver issues ;-) sure be a fix soon tried contacting anyone?

Contacting someone like who??? Ati support?

Well, i have an explanation now:

This has nothing to do with the hd4870x2. It's because the source engine is using only 1 CORE (not even threaded). I had the same fps with a 8800gtx, 9800gx2, gtx280 and hd4870x2. Until the full dual core mode is fixed you'll have to bear with the fps. If you want to turn on the beta dual core mode type in console before you join a game mat_queue_mode 2. Note that your game will crash at some point because it's unstable.

This was posted in another forum.

Now, while this does make sense i CANT believe that EVERYONE plays TF 2 like that, according to that answer, everyone get low FPS when the action is hairy, and i mean everyone since im sure most people dont have CPUs running at 3.6GHz even if it only uses one core.
