January 8 saw NVIDIA reclaim the performance crown from arch-rival AMD/ATI with the introduction of its dual-GPU GeForce GTX 295 graphics accelerator. The company used two of its 55nm G200 graphics cores is building this accelerator. Maintaining a dual-slot construction with its reference design, the card provides a fair bit of overclocking on its stock cooler. EVGA and Zotac, two of NVIDIA's largest add-in card partners, are reportedly planning water-cooled versions of this accelerator.

It is not clear at this point if the accelerators come in the form of merely cards with factory-fitted water-blocks, or if they come equipped with dedicated water-cooling loops. The two manufacturers will take advantage of the superior cooling system to provide high, non-reference clock-speeds to the cards' GPUs and memory. The new SKUs are likely to surface at the upcoming CeBIT event held in Hannover, Germany.

It's not the price, it's the mark-up. They charge about 100$ average just for installing the god-damn thing, comparing to street/market-price.

Will most likely work well. Unfortunately, the price will bruise your wallet. Another downside will be the lack of driver support. The previous Nvidia cards (7950 and 9800x2) should have contenders in the ring for ALOT longer than they where...But nvidia comes out with a new card series and drops all support for these dual gpu monsters..:shadedshu..ie (1.) They release the 7950, then VERY SHORTLY after they release the 8800 series and it is like the 7950 never existed at all...(2.)The 9800 X2. Support for it vanishes in the mist as soon as the 280 series looms on the horizon..:wtf:.. Which was sad, as the 9800 x2 was a very powerful card... So far the 295 is being looked after alot better than it's predocessors. I don't know why nvidia does this. They produce a very expensive, very powerful card. Then a few companies produce "liquid cooled" versions. Then WHAM!..:nutkick:.. The cards are ingored and neglected like a rented mule or the proverbial "red headed step-child" and the people who purchase these cards are left with expensive paperwieghts very soon after they've purchased them..

I have never understood what that support means. I can grant you the 7950GX2 never had good drivers, but the 9800GX2 has good driver support from what I hear from friends and even some people here in the forums, SLI profiles too, one of my friend got a replacement GX2 last week after RMAing (or was it 2 weeks ago? nevermind)... so what does "lack of support" mean?

so what does "lack of support" mean?

The 9800GX2 is already EOL and I can't see the 295 lasting much longer.. Nvidia always EOL's their X2 cards too fast.

So it's EOL and what? People who have it can still enjoy it and is as fast as always was. As I said, they can replace yours if it0s broken, they have enough stored cards for that. It's wonderfully supported on newer drivers and SLI profiles. So again what does it mean? That no longer is the fastest card? That you lost the e-penis? What? I swear I can't understand.

I have a 7900GS and a 8800 ultra and they are still working just fine with the latest drivers. Just because Nvidia or ATI are no longer promoting or selling a particular model does not mean it no longer is supported. Of course, eventually support must cease as technology moves on too far - hence I have no current drivers for my AGP Radeon 9200.

here is one example of what i'm talking about...If I'm going to pay what this card sold for, I had better be able to play whatever I want, whenever I want and in whatever config is advertised, without any issues what-so-ever. As far as e-pen goes, I could care less. I like being able to buy and play a game without having to look at the "hardware" requirements.

keep in mind those cards are single gpu cards, support for them is wonderful, ( I'm still running a 8800GTS a 640MB first run card and a older 7600gt both still run very good)it is the multi-gpu's that take the hit eventually.

The X2's have the same problem, just different games, it's not because the card is not supported, it's because it's multi-GPU, you have to babysit them, that's why I don't like multi-GPU solutions and thus AMD's strategy.

I could care less how much these are gonna cost. I just wanna see them in action. Should lead to some massive benchmark scores!

Come on Ati, you need to get back in the game!

I'm with you on that. Although, I've never had any problems running two cards, the multiple gpu-on-one-card solution just doesn't seem as reliable and trusty as the single gpu config's.

they are really an inbetween card IMO sometihng to be the top dog wihle a new bigger card comes out

Saying they have dropped 9800GX2 support is BS. People who say that don't simply go to look for drivers do they?

Is that dropped support? Nope. The 7950GX2 was a mistake but thats not anything like the new improved versions 9800GX2 and even more improved GTX 295.
