AMD and Intel Announce Settlement of All Antitrust and IP Disputes

CHAOS KILLA's post has been dealt with. Just a matter of time before it's removed. I suggest everyone ignore it so no more problems become of it.

Dang, now you got me curious.

I think the EU case has put Intel in a bribing mood. XD "Have some money and leave me alone."

AMD's total assets were −$7.675 billion as of 2008. AMD is still in hot water but this agreement will certainly help them.

that was 2008, now that GlobalFoundries has formed and ATIC has helped it looks ALOT less in 2009,

GlobalFoundries is actually losing more money, not helping the debt situation.

something that hasn't been mentioned yet, this deal also includes cross-licensing on all patents for the next five years => AMD has access to produce anything Intel puts out, likewise for Intel.

So... Phenom's with HT?

I imagine it's cheaper for intel to just "pay" AMD to drop the antitrust cases, than for them to be found guilty and likely end up having to pay more than $1.25 billion.

But still, nice to see AMD get that. How far into the red was AMD anyways?

with all the #s like trillions spread around now its still hard for me comprehend even Billions..

Thats 125 thousand millions, Intel could I please get a small loan?

And C2Q's with AMD's kicka$$ fusion tech ? :eek::rolleyes::D

No how about an i7 for sub 200 bucks. Thats something I would like to see Intel adopt.

If I were AMD I would TAKE EVERY THING !!!! I would assimilate EVERY bit of information I had access to ! Keep my nose so far up Intel's ASS I could hear there small intestine while it produced shit !

And you would be a fool.

From what I understand, it only pertains to patents granted within the next five years so we wouldn't see any of the old tech cross-licensed.

amd might be right but intel is rich over this. Wonder whos right?

If it was true or not, this is true! This isn't even a scratch into Intels coffers, and while it may help AMD keep it's doors open, it won't stop the path AMD is on right now, which is the same path VIA went on, which is a path to irelivance, and niche markets.

:shadedshu

I just don't get the niche markets thing. Sure AMD isn't as close to being as large as Intel, but I don't think things like servers and home computers are considered niche markets. Unless you are speaking about fusion of course. Bet even there, nobody knows any real details about that. Oh, and yesterday you were freaking out about Intel giving 1.25 billion away to AMD. Now today it's :rockout: ? I think someone is blinded by corporate idolatry.

You know what reality sets in and NO one is right here . Why ? let me just spell it out for you then ....
You DO NOT OWN Intel nor AMD , you do not work for there legal team , you are not involved with any and I MEAN ANY corporate business nor do know what is " good " for there corporation . Intel did the right thing and AMD won in the end . AMD has not said any thing at all about what they plan to do with the cash and again Intel is not going to tell you just how this hurt them . We are drones we buy there crap and use it that is what they see that is what they want and there is nothing els at all that we are involved in in-between ! So really we are just pissing in the wind ...

Actually, I own stock in both companies, so I do own some of AMD and Intel. That aside, yes we buy their stuff and we use it. Today, Intel stock is up and AMD's is down a little. What does that mean? Nothing, business as usual.

And tomorrow you could loose it all . Thing is that is just the way it goes . WE no matter if you own some stock or not have NOTHING to say about how and or what they are going to do in a case like this any way . Yes investors are very important but really did they ASK YOU or EVEN remotely involve you in any one of the corporate business ? Other than letting you know how much your stock is worth ?

Everyone could lose everything tomorrow, doesn't matter. I have my own business to run, if they want me to run theirs I happily will, for a wage of course. I own far too little of their stock for them to ask me anything. I have no idea where this is going, so I'll just agree with you. We buy their stuff / we use their stuff.

Dang! Mr.Trickson really tricked you so much you just changed your system specs :roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll: Damn E, I didn't think you would go to that extreme

I Suggest to AMD that Mr.Trickson should be given the CEO/COO job so he can talk Intel to give all their money and surrender

I have multiple systems with various hardware from various brands. Nothing extreme, all of my systems are pretty mainstream. ;)

I know, but yesterday I remember seeing it with Some AMD machine specs, so I thought it was funny you changed everything, especially the PSU, I still can't stop laughing.

I have this vision that he has a room full of computers of various builds, a corner with boxes of other hardware not being used. Then he sits down at which ever computer is still ON and not folding to moderate us and our overly heated discussions. But only Erocker knows for sure.

Of course this is win-win. Perhaps not as big a win for one side as it could have been. But overall everyone comes out better off after this sort of settlement. Long term the consumer will win by having more evenly matched competitors in the market place, this adjustment will help that situation. So what if Intel have a little bit less cash right now? It just means AMD will catch up a bit, and when Intel get over this bump-in-the-road they'll have to spend more on development to stay ahead. So we win again. Some people see worried that this will put up prices in the short term. Overall, how can it? You buy a CPU, $ goes to either AMD or Intel. Think of them as the combined CPU-cartel. Your $ goes to them, now money is passing between them, eventually your money goes to one of them anyway.

I'm just glad to know there's less money going to the bloodsucking lawyers.
