Thermaltake, leading DIY thermal solutions brand, launch their latest CPU air-cooler specifically designed for overclocking, the Thermaltake Frio. Its name is its mission, as Frio is the Spanish word for cool. With a maximum cooling capacity of up to 220W this high-end cooler is the ideal solution for overclockers and power-users alike. The universal socket support makes it compatible to all computer processors currently available on the market.

Unlike traditional up-side-down air flow designs, the Frio utilizes a tower side-flow design to optimize cooling performance. To attain maximum cooling performance, Thermaltake's Frio adopts 5 Φ8mm high-efficiency heat-pipes conducting heat from Nickel coated mirror base directly into the cooling tower which is made of 48 0.4mm thick specially designed aluminum fins to increase the overall thermal dissipation area. The preinstalled powerful 120mm OC VR fan can be manually adjusted between 1200RPM and 2500RPM according to differing user needs. An additional OC fan is already included in the package and can be installed to further maximize airflow under most stressful conditions.

Apart from the excellent cooling performance the Thermaltake Frio is also offering utmost convenience by virtue of its tool-lees design for fan-mounting. Exclusive anti-vibration soft mounting hooks reduce noise effectively even during fan operation at highest speeds. With support for Intel LGA775, LGA1156, LGA 1366 and AMD AM2, AM2+ and AM3 sockets the Frio delivers broadest processor compatibility.

The Thermaltake Frio CPU cooler is available at a suggested retail price of US$59.99.

Is 70c underload good at 4.2 ghz on i7?

in the vid if you look closely the CPU-Z says 4000.7MHZ not 4.2GHZ :D

Its worse then that!

at the start its at 3.470 ghz! that means at 3.5 ghz its 70C underload.

Pause @ 1:28.

not Impressive at all :/
i can oc my C2D E8400 up to ~4.2GHz; cooler Alpenföhn Brocken

Your C2D e8400 is

1. dual core, not quad core like the processor in the video

2. not an i7, which are infamously hot as shit.

Basically incomparable.

Looks kinda crappy to me. This is a pure marketing scam. It's been a long time since Thermaltake has released anything interesting.

They're taking a lot of credit for what the extreme edition i7 is supposed to do without that cooler. That is to overclock past 4GHz.

yes ur right but who would cool an i7 XE with air anyway :/ water ftw :D
just as u said the i7 is hot as shit + OC with air cooling this would be fu... noisy

simple lookin

doesn't seem to bad of a cooler. the top of it looks like a knock off v8. jmo.

I dont like all the plastic all around the cooler(makes it look cheap)

and when he says nickle plated is the "most flat" base, how does adding nickle make a base flat?

It needs better fans. If you look at 1:00, he didn't get sucked in at all.

Seriously though, seems like an OK cooler.

Last time I used Thermaltake was with a Athlon XP-M 2500+ and the Dragon Orb. If their stuff does work out of the box it never last long.

Even the most crappy 2500 rpm fans should do a better job. 80+ degrees with two 2500 rpm fans at 1.28v? Thats pretty bad. Oh scratch that, its awful.

To give you an idea what real coolers are doing at higher voltages:

Lets hope, for their sake, they used hand cream instead as thermal compound, because thats a really nice looking heatsink.

All I have to say is WTF to thier marketing. :shadedshu

It implies that all of thier other coolers aren't made for overclocking - which I'm inclined to believe.

I'd buy this cooler just because of that weird accent of that representative.
In all seriousness, Thermaltake actually manages to market something as "astonishing", while other manufacturers would call that "budget".

Seems me predictions about the cooler were true at least : ]

( see news post way back when it was just a prototype spotted)

Is it just me, or did the name of the cooler catch anyones attention? It's spanish for cool, yes, but Frio brings Frying or something in my mind. Like frying your CPU :D

Those coolers are also probably in a lot higher price bracket I would assume.

holy crap that's one hot cpu! that cooler = suck for $60 80C at 4.2ghz sad

Why does Thermaltake even bother anymore? None of their supposed high end coolers ever stay high end. They are ALWAYS bested by Thermalright, Scythe, Noctua, or other companies ... sick of their marketing ..

lol i didn't see that LOL!

The last thing that thermaltake made right was the big typhoon heatsinks.

I believe it would do good on lower wattage CPU's but it doesn't fair well with that CPU atleast.

3.5GHz @ Low: 34C / High: 70C
4.2GHz @ Low: 42C / High: 81C

But it's a fairly high wattage CPU. They should have tried it on something that draws less power IMO for more DRAMATIC EFFECTS if they really want to sell it. Plus the fact they add in 'DESIGNED FOR OVER-CLOCKING ENTHUSIASTS" ..... *sigh

I like the look of it and the plastic is pretty cool for the fans. Love the quieting features. Did anyone notice he said POWER instead of TOWER when describing the cooler. I thought it was an oriental person at first, turns out it was either swedish or german sounds. Very funny! Id get it just to try it out.
