I am looking around for a good LCD TV. (37"-42")

I am a dedicated anti-murdochist and therefore don't watch very much TV at all. The TV's main purpose would be films, running internet (via laptop) on. However, it would be very important to me that the screen was good for gaming. I have registered with 'Which' (a UK consumer review site) but in all the 100's of pile of stats that they give about the TVs they review, they all seem to miss 'response time' and HZ, the two parabels which I believe are of utmost importance when it comes to gaming. Indeed, gaming very often hardly gets a mention in any TV review that I can find on the internet.

I am not looking to spend a fortune on the TV, perhaps no more (or only a little more) than £1000, but around £700 would be the financial sweet-spot.

I have a 1 year old 52inch 1080P LCD tv that i got from tiger direct. its a 60Hz model (before 120hz and 240hz exploded) i think i gave 1K for it on sale with free shipping. i have my HTPC hooked to it through HDMI and games look so beautiful on it! COD4 looks like your landing on a cargo ship in the middle of the ocean! HAHAH

If you're into sharp picture monitor-like gaming. Do not get a TV.

TV is for console games only where AA is not really available.

The reason you don't hear much about hertz and response times anymore is because they aren't issues any more. The major manufacturers (Samsung, Panasonic, etc.) have pretty much eliminated those kinds of problems in recent years. You can pretty much game without fear of "ghosting" on any new mainstream model of LCD or plasma.

Vizio is a very high quality yet underrated brand in my book. The all use mostly the same components, it's just the big names have big names, so they can sell it off for more.

not saying there aren't crap manufacturers - but Vizio is definitely not one of them. been happy with my 46" for over 2 years :) no issues at all.

While true, motion blur is still an issue.

If our sitting back 10 feet or so, go for it. If you are going to be right up on the screen, get a nice 27 or 32" cause it can be hard to keep track of an entire 47" screen when you are 2 feet away.

setting that aside, to avoid the motion blur and muddy look in faster scenes, go with a 120 Hz or higher TV.

I'm happy with my Samsung and if you can still pick one up, they are cheaper than the new LED's.

My mom has the T260HD or the other one very similar to it and boy is it nice. I got a used 1920x1200 Samsung 24" monitor en route to me in the mail now. Samsung has great quality and should be built to last. If mine ever goes, I have a warranty the original owner bought as well that still has a few years on it. Can't wait to use this baby. ^_^

@MatTheCat It's funny what your sig states and what is in your System Specs drop down box. I prefer having X-Fi myself so can I use EAX.

I spent around £100 on a Creative X-Fi Pro Gamer blah blah blah etc etc soundcard. It was ok when I still had my 4000+ and DDR1 RAM, no problems, nice sound, a few extra FPS as well. But as soon as I upgraded to a faster processor and RAM, I started to get lots of clicking and crackling sounds in games that used EAX. A very common problem. Apparently if I UNDERCLOCK my system that will solve the problem....(oh, how f-ing fantastic).......or if I upgrade to a PCI-e version of the X-Fi that will also 'solve' the issues. So Creative are selling what is meant to be a premium gaming product that runs like shit if anyone has a premium gaming PC (conroe was out at the time).

Creative join Sony on the list of companies whose products I will never buy ever again, no matter what.

(Sony get on the list for tying thier Mp3 players to 'Sonicstage' grrrrrrrrrrrowl)

The TV is for front room, so looking at between 37-42 inches...26 is far too small.
