Look at my system...

Pretty old right? Bought as a package on November 2006. GPU purchases just a month ago. And it is my one and only computer.

Is there anyone out there who's got an even older system which you use primarily?

Yes. Pentium II, ancient DFI motherboard and a Voodo 3 card I think.

Oh wait I don't use that primarily.

There was a time tho when I was forced to use an old HP laptop wehre you needed a calendar to time its boot up time.

Check my lappy, its about as good as yours.

My parents still uses a Pentium D 820 + 1Gb ram + Radeon x200, so your rig is fine.

I can't really remember my first PC, it was... well it was before 1997 I think. Or was it 98? No thats when we first got internet... Ah I dunno. All I remember is the 400MHz Intel Celeron chip, I still have that thing. And it had an MSI board.

And I fried that computer because of my lack of knowledge regarding electricity. Turned out that laying the parts on a metal shelf and powering them up wasn't such a good idea after all lol.

Your system is not that bad, specks. And them Pentium D's overclock quite well too, while functioning well as a room heater of course.

I'm curious which OS you have? You'd actually run Win7 64-bit quite well on your rig. A RAM upgrade to 4gigs would be recommended though.

Yeah the pentium d runs pretty hot. I just oc'ed to 3ghz as i dont have an aftermarket cooler.

I just run Win XP.

Budget is really an issue for me. Thats why i can barely get my hands on some new stuff.

I got an old socket 478 P4 2.8Ghz, foxconn mobo 600MB ram I think 3 x 80GB and 160GB HDD, which is now used as a storage server. Still runs perfect. My First pc back in 95 was a 386.

Much better than what I had and what I had was able to run some of the latest dx8-9 games.

P4 3.0ghz, ati 9550 128mb and 512mb RAM.. from 2004-2008

Your rig is more than enough to access all the content pleasantly in today's software including games so your rig is not so ancient just yet.

Pentium D 830 is a nice chip! i sold one mid last year that would OC to 4Ghz on 1.35V it would be good enough for light gaming and everyday use

Well, mine is quite ancient. And it's what I primarily use.
Pentium 4 oc'ed, as you can see in my specs.

But my motherboard is a gem, you know? It separates the processor's clock from the memory: I can OC them separately. Alas, it doesn't have any voltage control whatsoever...
When a friend of mine lends me his HD4830, though, it runs games quite well, actually, much better than you'd think.

I've recently seen Linux run on a very old and low performance netbook-style PC just fine. Windows would choke solid on an old thing like that.
