Here's a good gifting idea for the geek in your family (other than you) or your friends-circle, a new wireless keyboard-mouse combo made it to online stores, that's fabricated almost completely of bamboo wood. Practically every part otherwise made of ABS plastic uses bamboo. The keyboard has a warm wooden feel to it; its frame, and all its keys are made of bamboo. The keys have their symbols/functions etched into them, instead of being printed or embossed upon them. It has a standard 108-key US-QWERTY layout, which also includes a few shortcut keys. Underneath is a common membrane switching mechanism. The keyboard connects to a USB micro receiver over 2.4 GHz wireless band.

The mouse, too, is fabricated almost entirely of bamboo. This includes its top side, its two main buttons, and its underside. The scroll-wheel is made of rubber. The mouse uses a common optical sensor that's fit for everyday tasks. Like the keyboard, the mouse talks to the receiver over 2.4 GHz wireless. The keyboard weighs 1020 g, with the mouse 69 g. The keyboard measures about 465 x 160 x 25 mm, and the mouse 57 x 94 x 35 mm. The combo is priced at US $89.

NEAT!! I guess I would only really question the durability of it. I'm sure like most PC users keyboards and mice need regular cleaning. Wood tends to "absorb" oil and dirt and even if finished how long would the finish last? I am just thinking as a musician and how wood reacts.

I like the keyboard but the mouse looks kinda cheap and unwieldy.

The first photo has something wrong in it...

I've seen wooden PC gear before and I always thought it rather odd. Not for me.

This is pure awesomeness!

Now I just need some punji sticks to keep people away from this.

Bamboo is one of the toughest woods on the planet. Since it's a tropical wood, it's very durable even in very humid environments. That's why wooden furniture for outside usage is usually made of bamboo.

The idea is pretty neat. It must feel different than plastic stuff.

Omg all splinters

Hardwood flooring too. The durability of the top finish would be dependent on the lacquer/finish used

Bamboo is actual a type of grass/straw so it don't tend to splinter.
That is just the way how Bamboo grows that make it look like that.
After all it isn't a "real" tree.

Yeah...it's creative and kinda cool but I think I agree. Wooden cases are one thing, though I doubt I'd ever actually use one myself.

Asus do this with a laptop some time ago ?..

Don't wood expand with different temperatures\moist levels ?. And WOW 2 battery's really ? so much for it saving the planet.. Shiii they should of talked to Logitech before bringing this thing out.

What happend if my friends become jealous to me 'n put sum termites on my gear :-O

I actually suspect the keys would have a nice feel to them.

Now where did I put that lemon oil?:ohwell:

I like the wooden feel, but not the wooden look.

Can they make a bamboo keyboard painted black?

Make it wired with mechanical switches and they can have my money. Keep the mouse.

Yeah really, conserve but put batteries in and make it wireless? Maybe they thought adding a cord would be worse. Pfft.

Interesting idea and it might have me curious had they not made it cordless.

My thoughts exactly.... I don't even need the mechanical switches, but make it wired get rid of the mouse and sell me the keyboard.
