If they have a Vista driver you could try that--especially for Zip drives. If they don't even have that, you're better off getting the data transferred to something else and recycling/destroying the legacy hardware. It's only going to become a worse headache going forward.

That would work if I were to run 32bit. There is no 64 bit driver for them even in vista and I believe the 32b vista driver I found was shady as hell. XP functions fine, this is not a machine I use for anything, but data recovery.

no compatibility issues yet... also great experience... great performance compared to older Win7x64 ultimate...

My guess is Iomega never created a Vista driver. In order to get WHQL certification, they'd have to release a 64-bit and 32-bit driver. The 32-bit Vista driver is likely a modified XP driver to get Vista to accept it.

It wouldn't surprise me, super easy to install XP and skip the issue. The PC doesn't even connect to a network so I could care less about updates etc.

If you go with W10, I highly recommend installing Destroy W10 Spying. It's a free app that in a couple easy clicks removes all it's excessive data mining.

Some have speculated that a big part of the reason W10 is free, besides MS admitting they wanted to keep the Chinese on Windows, is because they may be getting money for selling personal info they data mine, which is not illegal btw if you give it to them willingly.

Home unless you use HyperV.

About the security/privacy concerns. What do they collect when you turn everything off? And the only thing I really don't like is the network sharing thing. That is annoying.

well just to pitch in why i hate win 7, just installed it on a triple core athlon II x3.

three hours of scanning for its first windows updates, eating 2GB of ram and a full CPU core. What a pleasant way to waste a few hours.

That's not because of Windows 7 or your hardware. Microsoft has changed something to make Win7 Updates real pain in the butt. It wasn't like that before.

The only difference in Win7 Ultimate is that it has all language packs and bitlocker. Other than that, offers nothing more over pro. Id go with that if youre not encrypting with shitlocker. (if you choose windows 7)

They're still OEM keys though, so you can't (according to the EULA) use them on any old machine.

Yeah no kidding. Use to be way faster. Reason it just faster to download the blasted things off their website and use a batch file to install them instead.

Or if you smart about it, on fresh install make a image of the OS after all current updates install. Then use the deployment tools to add updates to the image.

Uhmmm, wrong there. Ult has other features over Home and Pro. Of course most probably don't use them. It is literal the consumer Enterprise. Reason I was kind of piss when they killed the Ult version off. Also, one of my reason my 7 Ult and its key never going to be upgraded to 10.

Yeah, back in September, I was doing 4-5 computers a day. Last month, I was maybe doing 1 a day at best. The computer hardware is identical, the process I used to update them is identical. The only thing that changed was Windows Update and I haven't found a solution. I notified the boss lady that Microsoft has sabotauged Windows Update on 7 and that, even if I keep going with them, GWX will weasle its way on there anyway, it makes more sense just to install Windows 10. It takes longer for me to erase the hard drive on Windows 10 than it does to install the OS and update it. I fear what will happen when the free upgrade offer is no longer available. :cry:

Yea I realized after I bought the windows 7 ultimate disc. I should've got the pro but I had to be macho man and get the highest end system for operating system to date. Haha.
