I'm into space strategy, but haven't really tried or gotten into Total War kinda games.

I really enjoyed the WH40K RTS and even enjoyed 40K2 tactical strategy and I have enjoyed other Focus Home Interactive published titles. I like the idea of massive ship combat, and persistence through the campaign. At least if what little I've read thus far is correct.

I also have my eye on Shallow Space as that looks like it could be very promising if the dev continues to push the game in the planned direction and can pull it off. But right now Armada is in my sights... I need more time to research it. I wish I could read your beta review! I understand NDA's though, integrity in the field your in is extremely important so I appreciate what you were able to say.

Hey all of you sexy strategy people. So I want to buy something refreshing to play and can`t decide should I get Xcom 2, Distant Worlds: Universe or maybe something else? Also I read Eugen rebooting Act of Aggression anyone tried it yet? I don`t have it yet but would love to hear some feedback.

Ya I'm waiting on that one... Stellaris has a lot of hype and promise for sure... but I like my tactical combat too...I'm gonna wait and see how it fares. But its a Paradox game so I'm sure it'll be epic after all the patches and DLC's regardless. I'm really hoping what they do with it takes it to the next level in 4X grand strategy.

Have you guys noticed the resurgence of Warcraft 3?
Been watching some streams lately and I gotta admit... WC3 is still the best RTS on the market imho - nostalgia aside. It's so much fun and balanced and very entertaining to watch as well!

Edit: OpenRA looks awesome. Used to play Red Alert a lot against my older brother via local multiplayer.

Funny you mention WC3...just installed my copy with Frozen Throne for my 8yo to play... And I decided that I needed another copy.

It is an excellent classic RTS.

Been playing quite a bit of Battlefield Gothic: Armada and SupCom FA when I have time to game lately.

I think after a few skirmishes with my youngest, whom decided he was ready to upgrade to FA from SupCom 2 that I'm gonna run back through the campaign I never finished in FA.

I'm playing the campaign in BGA and am really enjoying the game thus far...though it runs like dog shit on my laptop (Dell 3540 with R265X/8850M)...looks and runs amazing on my main rig (it damn well better!). I really enjoy the tactics layer in this game and with the patch yesterday I feel it is a smoother and more enjoyable experience yet. I have yet to try MP, nore is that a reason I purchased it...thus far I'm very much enjoying this title and what it offers. I enjoy being a captain of my fleet, modifying it to my needs and planning my attacks accordingly. YAR!

The 2D space combat part was initially disappointing, and then I started playing...2D-wha??? I was so enveloped in the tactics, graphics, and fun of it I could care less.

And SupCom FA is still SupCom FA...I installed FAF to add some graphical mods. I do wish that Ashes was more of a SupCom clone than it is. Don't get me wrong Ashes is fun in it's "Gold Beta" release as it stands...but I enjoy SupCom FA more still. And I still greatly enjoy SupCom2 for faster games with my boys. Maybe someday, someone will mod in SupCom FA into the Ashes engine...now THAT my friends would be one helluva RTS. I love the battles and graphics of Ashes...but I guess C&C3 and SupCom FA-style games are truly the peak of where I enjoy RTS titles...

Back to BGA...such an entertaining title...I'm a space game whore anyways...but throw in the 40K universe and man-o-man has it been a blast! Looking forward to future patches and content, but so far I'm very happy with what is already available to me. This could also help that I have limited time to game too...

Ya DoW2 was an RTT while 1 was RTS. Both were good and I have dozens of hours in each...but once I was done with 2 I don't really go back...but I still fire up Dark Crusade from time-to-time.

Seems like they're trying to combine the best of DoW and DoW2 from claims made here...but no release date set. Relic making it makes me happy though! Let's hope this is an epic RTS/RTT release...

I guess if they combine DoW RTS with DoW2 RTT...we'll have hero units like Warcraft3?...that's kinda how I view it at least...surely it is all speculation at this point though!

Wasn't DOW2 already COH with a different skin? At the time of the first DOW you could not have made COH, but I think they wanted DOW to be like COH from the beginning.

at least in CoH you could control more than 3 units at a time. My memory of DoW2 was screaming at it that it failed miserably in the scale department.

That is what i liked about it, i wished of a more tactical approach like Ground Control, 20-30 units with witch you had to accomplish the objective. No base building stuff just fighting and squad management.

while that type of game has its place, you dont do a genre switch for a normal sequel. you change the name of it, whatever.

Well from little i know of the 40k lore, battles should be at least on the Supreme Commander scale, since those worlds had billions of people living there you shoud at least have hundreds of units under your command.
With DOW 3 they are mixing DoW 1 and 2 with more cartoonish graphics, might not be bad.
