NVIDIA Settles Class-Action Lawsuit Over GTX 970 Memory

What? Wow...

It made sense to me. But then I'm currently on LSD, methadone, cannabis and Strong IPA.

Only one of those is true. And I don't understand...

Maxwell already in Legacy Mode, and less than one year to paxwell also to be part of legacy drivers. roflmao

It's called 'previous generation products' and not legacy..must be typo they fixed. Legacy is what they use for drivers.

I want my money back ...NVIDIA!

After 7300GT this is my second nvidia gpu, somehow i'l regret it :(

They should release a bios which disables the slow memory and thus the card would be a true 3.5GBB/224bit card.

Then all the AMD fanboys would cry even harder and there would be another class-action suit.

Why would they want to do that? That 500MB is still faster than system RAM, which is where your proposal would send the visuals to.

Nvidia feeds the info to the tech site through the reviewers guide. Its not that the tech sites got it wrong, it's that they were handed wrong information from the beginning from Nvidia.

EDIT: Made it bigger so rtwjunkie can see it.
Where's the wrong info? There are 64 ROPs usable on each card.

Fact of the matter is they resolved it in a decent way. A way that can make consumers happy and at least settles the fact and admits they were wrong. $30 is a pretty decent amount when you consider the price of the card at launch to now so its a good ending to this whole fiasco. Hopefully we won't see this again, as already with the 1070 (Least I have not heard anything about that) we see its not like that.
Nothing can change the fact that the GTX 970 was the price/performance king of the last generation of cards.
Uhh, no it wasn't... Even if your referencing just from Nvidia's side it was not the best price to performance. It was good, not the best.

Yea so??? They are in Legacy status because they are the previous generation which also means hardware is slowing down production.

I feel so happy i was not nagged into buying a 970 last year. Forum members here at TPU were telling me 970 was THE best option for my X99 build. Soo glad i never went down that route.
Its funny, because many of the people on here that owned them and were heavily adamant about them being the greatest thing as sliced bread now own a different card from the same generation (From a slight next step up to 2 steps). Still it was a decent card, just not as great as it was being preached by many in my book.

Second, you didn't buy the car for each cylinder's individual performance, but for the overall performance.

You give a good example but a false assumption of how some people feel. Some people prefer to feel as though they have purchased a card/engine that was designed with uniform performance per operating unit.

One man could brag to another that he has the latest 8 cylinder engine truck from [insert manufacturer] that was just released and his coworker could quip that it isn't anything but a glorified 6 cylinder and ask him if he was looking at Toyota Prii that day.

Are you reading same as I am? It was 64 reported, and turned out to be 56 actual.

Nope, there are 64 ROPs in total. The 1070 is missing a GPC, thus it can only put 48 ROPs to work at the same time, but there are 64 ROPs in there and they're all enabled.
And again, as Anandtech notices, the 1070 is not 25% slower in games, meaning ROPs are not the bottleneck anyway, so the difference hardly matters.
And if you look up the product, Nvidia does not actually advertise any ROP count: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/10series/geforce-gtx-1070

Ahhhh, we have a disconnect. :) Those slides you commented on were for the 970, which is what I'm talking about, since that is the topic of this news article.

Oh yes. Because they say 64 and 56, not 64 and 48 as they would for the 1070.
What can I say, I wish they were more thorough, but knowing how many layers of PR (aka BS) these have to go through... Maybe now that they've seen (twice in a row) that they're only giving ammo to haters, they'll get their act together. Though I still prefer solid products with messed up specs than the other way around ;)

its natural to defend your choice, because the opposite would mean admitting that you were wrong. the fact of the matter with the 970 was that it wasnt the best it could be, if that card was the best it could be the 980 would be irrelevant. that card was artificially gimped to fill a market segment. it wasnt a bad card, it just wasnt the best it could have been.

Can you cash in on this if you buy a GTX970 today? That would be neat.

Looks like got a $180.00 payday coming up soon.

Hey TPU, (Sorry if this was asked already :) Just curious if anybody else got emails about this class Action lawsuit settlement stating other cards?
I received some emails.
We have been informed about a class action lawsuit settlement with NVIDIA regarding the GTX 970 graphics card. Newegg is currently awaiting details about the settlement claims process (instructions, website). Once we have this important information, we will send you a follow-up email with the specifics on how you can submit your claim.
Then I got these also:

I called Customer Service and they said they where informed that I might affect other cards not just the GTX970's. Just curious Thx TPU
