It seems as though you are not allowed to put the word 'Linux' in your Xbox Live Motto. There is no obvious reason behind this, but this almost certainly will put the Linux community up in arms. Most Linux users/enthusiasts probably do not like the idea of Linux being associated with a countless assortment of other profanities and obscenities.

damn microsucks.

meh Censorship, M$ really should grow up.

This is not preschool...

yer but it their playground and they'll cry if they want to:laugh:

Wow...linux is inappropriate...I feel sorry for people that feel that way.

That is so childish of MS.

microshaft = 3 year old child

It's MS, they don't want you to find something better.

Look at this from Microsoft's point of view. Most likely, anybody who uses the word 'Linux' in their motto would be using as some fanboyish slant against Microsoft. If you owned a company, would you want your customers advertising other products, and slamming yours? No. You wouldn't. And neither do they. There are enough Linux fanboy flame wars on the internet. I don't want to hear some noobish Linux rant after cutting somebody in half with a chainsaw-machine-gun in Gears of War.

iPod names too... Also, lets go ahead and ban WordPerfect names... The list goes on...

In the words of some anonymous MS executive: "Linux - Shminux!! We don't need no open-source!"

I really, really, really hate to play Devil's Advocate here, but I've heard that it may be because "Linux" is actually a copyrighted term. However, this argument falls apart if Microsoft is allowing other copyrighted terms (including their own name).

You should look into that ;)

I honestly don't understand the uproar, I mean I guess to a certain point it would frustrate people. If you think about it its hilarious. Microsoft owns the system and servers so they can do what they want, if they choose to look stupid it should be funny.
I saw this and just laughed. 2¢

Sure thing! Send me an XBox 360 and I'll get to work modding it to run linux... No, wait! I mean, calling people fags while fragging people in Halo 2...

Ah, you know what I mean. Maybe I'll get around to checking the motto thing.
