ATI Catalyst 7.9 Released

they probably haven't finished their site yet.
there's alot of stuff missing
ie working AGP drivers lol

Bah, poor excuses. AMD should of left the ATi site as it was, it rocked. AMD are gay.

yeah, I was kinda worried back when AMD snagged ATI that ATI would slowly fall apart under AMD's wing . . .

I hate to say it but it does look like ATi is slowly falling apart.
Just imagine if ATi did disappear.
nVidia will have the monopoly and thier cards will probably be even more overpriced for longer!

Looks like I'll be staying with the 7.6 drivers. . . .

man.....I hope this is not another nvidia 3dfx fiasco.....
ati's site was much more eficient
now i have to go to the graphics section etc...

3dfx ftw

I purchased a Saphire HD 2600 Pro (512MB DDR2) recently, this is my first ATi by the way.. and I am quite in a haze about how to activate(if at all) the hardware playback.. Noticed that there are certain AVIVO codecs listed on the internet (for the x1000 series only).

My question is: For my video card, If I download the 7.9 drivers and have a player that suports hardware video decoding (example:PowerDVD), do I need to install something else like an Avivo codec pack?

I cannot find any AVIVO HD download drivers, codecs or anything, so should I presume that everything needed is embeded in the drivers?

Noob question.. I know but, I realy cannot find the info anywhere else, since the amd site is f.u.c.k.ed up and doesnt point to any link just describes how wonderfull AVIVO HD is..

WoW!!!! giant performance increases in these games. It show you the full potential of even the 2600 xt has not been reached.

Performance Improvements
The following performance improvements are noticed with Catalyst™ 7.9:

Far Cry performance improves up to 14 % on the ATI Radeon™ HD2900XT CrossFire™, ATI Radeon™ HD2600XT single card, and ATI Radeon™ HD2400XT CrossFire™ configurations
Call of Duty 2 performance improves as much as 12% with Anti-Aliasing enabled on the ATI Radeon™ HD2600XT CrossFire™ and single card configurations
Half-Life 2: Episode 1 performance improves at most 9% on ATI Radeon™ HD2600XT CrossFire™ and as much as 6% on the ATI Radeon™ HD2400XT CrossFire™ configurations.
Serious Sam 2 performance improves up to 46% on the ATI Radeon™ HD2400XT CrossFire™ and up to 27% on the ATI Radeon™ HD2600XT single card and CrossFire™ configurations with Anti-Aliasing enabled.
Quake 4 performance with Anti-Aliasing improves 9% or more on the ATI Radeon™ X1600/X1650Pro and ATI Radeon™ X1300/X1550 products in both single and CrossFire™ configurations

Giant Decrease in NFS: C.

If they did i think Samsung would buy it.

But had no problems my self in games.

Now, I have heard that more than a few times by now :P ... Neither ATi or AMD are going down.. worry not. :)
Companies as big as this bleed money but mostly always come back, when a crysis occurs there is always a backup of desperation that puts the gears in motion.

So far.. I'm yet to witness these gears come in to motion, the ATi midrange cards are very poor performers, even their flagship is a poor performer in DX10 (same also applies to nvidia) I'm staying well clear of both companies DX10 cards for now.

I didn't think the 2900XT was going to be the flagship, I honestly thought a XTX was planning on following relatively soon. Maybe we'll have to wait until a die shrink comes out.

With you on the holding off though Ketxxx.

Yes but look at this improvement in 3dmark06

Giant Decrease in NFS: C.
Ketx i'm not sure what you mean these are all driver issues the 2600xt gained a 27 percent increase in somethings with this release. They are just fine tuning these cards. Shoot a 8 to 12 percent increase one driver release is alot. They are far from done yet.
Remember most of these games that are out were not designed to take advantage of the power of the 2900xt's. They were designed for the older and more refined drivers that the 8800 series has. So basically the 2900 series are emulating 8800 series cards.

Almost matches my old 8800 gtx oced like crazy with a e6600 at 3.9ghz and i'm using a e2160 at 3.690ghz that has less than half the on chip memory . Pretty impressive I say. I have seen giant improvements in several games with these new drivers and these drivers greatly improve the performance of the 2600 xt line aswell.

Also the CCC in 7.9 will not work with x1900 cards it's in the realease notes. just the drivers but not CCC your supposed to use 7.6 CCC and 7.9 drivers if i remember correctly.

more refined drivers... :laugh::roll:

I think ATI-AMD site is layed out nicely and they have a very fast download unlike ATI by them selves
;)

more refined drivers... :laugh::roll:

I'm sorry are you saying the 8800 gtx doesn't have more refined drivers. It's been out longer and at the 2900 xt's release performed better.

all down loaded and installed time for some test runs and see whats up:toast:

well It did not clear up an issue I have...Dirt demo and Test drive unlimited most times will not work in CF:confused:

well I'm sticking to 7.7s

I'm just saying that's what we need.....more refined drivers :D

atitool 0.27 wont work for me on 7.9 and vista 32bit.

i think i'll be uninstalling this driver and going back on 7.6(this is the best one right?)

also can anyone confirm that the quake wars demo works on 7.6?

you have to have 7.9 or the quake wars demo will not work,i tried with 7.8 and it wont run.

You don't need 7.9s. I used 7.7s and it worked fine

I have tried to install 7.9 on my AGP Radeon 9800XT 256 mb card and the drivers don't seem to want to take hold. I have removed the old drivers before running the setup.exe file but for some reason my computer still does not see the new drivers. In order for me to get my card working I have to use drivers available through Windows Update that are 3 years old. Any tips on how to fix this? Do I just use the 7.7 drivers as most people don't seem to have problems with these.

Just stick with the 7.7 set. Some people argue that he 7.6 set are better, but I got better results with the 7.7s.

Ok will give it a go. The 7.9 thing has been giving me a headache the last few days. :banghead:

I haven't upgraded my drivers in a while. Usually just waited till Windows updated them. But a new game came out that requires updated drivers and I figured it was time.
