Newegg is one of the retailers that extensively pushed volumes of GIGABYTE's now-disgraced P-series GM power supplies. The store had sold bundles of the power supply with GIGABYTE-branded graphics cards. It is now writing to everyone it sold these PSUs to, offering two options—refund or replacement. Those opting for refund can simply turn their PSUs in for a refund; or opt for a replacement with a PSU that GIGABYTE revised to correct the problem. Since the design flaw is also a potential fire hazard, there is extreme scrutiny from consumer-protection agencies. The e-mail includes contact details on what range of serial numbers are affected, and who to reach out for. Below is a screenshot of the e-mail from faisalkhatib, who originally shared it with VideoCardz.

Still trying to weasel themselves out, I see.
what range of serial numbers are affected
Yeah, no.
At this point, recall the entire fucking range. And destroy recycle them. Even if it's fixable, this had already been such a colossal PR calamity I really don't believe is salvageable.
Best start anew from scratch.

Also after this, I'll never ever going to get anything from GigaByte. Not for making a huge and dangerous mistake, but for the way they did handle the situation.

Gigabyte have really damaged their reputation with this debacle. They knew what they were doing. I wouldn't trust the revised version, either. Just steer clear of Gigabyte PSUs.

I imagine that a lot of customers would have simply thrown away that piece of garbage, so do they get no compensation?

That's because GN made a new video in real time "no cuts" with another PSU & it lasted no longer than 18 mins into the video.

Speedrun Gigabyte Power Supply Explosion: Biggest Failure Yet (GP-P750GM) - YouTube

EDIT: I want to add something to all reviews who test these PSU.

You need to monitor all voltage rails "LIVE" at the point of failure, ie LIVE Recording via a scopemeter on all voltage rails.
What is the Voltage reading at "point of failure" ..You need to know can it take out PC components/devices.

ive use Aorus mobos for years and never had a problem with them but just on how gigabite has treated this PSU matter "put folks lives at risk" i wont be buying there kit any more.
My relatively recent build is with Aorus Pro mobo. GB throws all of their non-problematic products under the Aorus sub-brand. This includes the Aorus power supplies, which is made by the same OEM, MEIC, and is actually a nice power supply.

From my perspective, fanboy and boycotting a brand, or a corporation is two sides of the same coin. A corporation is never going to care about their consumer's feelings beyond liability and profitability, just like how Nvidia catering to the miners this generation, while attempting to maintain a gaming brand public image.

I think we ought to just buy product that is good, ignore and boycott that which is bad. Like a parental figure giving a naughty child a whack. It is somewhat infeasible however, because there is far more consumers out their asking "what brand is good" rather than "what products is good and what do I actually need". Still, this way we can impose natural selection on corporations, and is what professionals of most fields do - Dell treats their server/enterprise customers far "less worse" than everyday joe trying to buy a PC that won't become obsolete and malware filled.

On the topic of this specific product, I don't think there is any other way to go about this other than seeing the CEO publically kowtowing. It is a horrendous power supply, and this is coming from me who uses a 80+ white 450w PSU. And I don't think it is anywhere as simple as "recall-replace the terrible FETs and Capacitors". The common way to design a PSU is to choose a platform, throwing BOM worth of parts, and check that it behaves correctly, rinse and repeat the last 2 steps until you can release the product. Something with this power supply seems to be a fault in design, beyond just horrendous part selection, to the point of failing at 60%.

I think Gigabyte in knowingly pushing this product to public, has fucked itself to oblivion with E waste and I sure hope that everyone exercise the right for a refund.

That's definetly not true. Buildzoid is always going on about how good their motherboards are. I myself have one of their 3070 Tis and have no complaints. It runs cool and extremely quiet (no coil whine either). It's not the model I would have chosen were such a choice available, but I'm pleased with it.

As for their business practices, I do wonder how anybody can talk about boycotting one specific PC parts manufacturer over such things. Which other company are you going with instead? MSI, who Gamers Nexus have exposed many times and which was caught scalping its own graphics cards? Asus, who threatened to sue Hardware Unboxed over their negative coverage of the TUF Gaming A15 and made personal attacks against Steve? ASRock, who blacklisted both Hardware Unboxed and Gamers Nexus for pointing out that their Z490 motherboards were crap? I guess you must be planning on getting that Biostar motherboard you've always wanted...

Newegg and Gigabyte deserve all the flak that's coming their way for this.

It's greed that has put both of them in this situation and they've both been exposed, their careless attitude towards customers isn't something that can be hidden by a "goodwill gesture" that should be a consumer right by default. In many civilised countries of the world, it already is a consumer right by default.

Why is Newegg doing this? I'd bet they're not doing because Gigabyte told them top. Or, maybe they're doing it to cover their own ass? Is Newegg culpable because they forced the PSU on to buyers that could not opt out and just purchase the GPU?

Whatever the case, I've never seen Newegg offer refunds for someone else's design mistakes. They do have a limited time warranty for most products, 90 days or 90 feet?, but I think thats for only damaged shipping. RMA is still with brand manufacturers.

X570 boards have been massive improvement over X470 both in terms of Bios and VRM implementations. Its unfortunate how they have handled this exploding power supply issues. Would be cautious of buying GB products in future.

First of all, Newegg isn't doing diddly squat. Gigabyte is offering the exchange or return. I'm willing to bet 90% of these PSUs were sold only because they were forced to by Newegg's horrible bundle package. Gigabyte has never been known to make quality power supplies. I'm not saying they haven't, just that they are not known for it.

Side Note: I wonder how many people claimed they "WON" that Gigabyte power supply. "Winning" a chance to buy something is the dumbest concept ever. Not for Newegg, but for the consumer. /rant

Right now Newegg is just trying to save a little face with consumers to make them look like the good guys - offering to take back the bad PSUs that went out. I think Newegg leaned hard enough on Gigabyte, from this whole fiasco, to get refunded for their PSUs. If folks can return the PSU from a bundle and get refunded their $100 or so, that would be a good improvement for some folks that had to pony up the extra cash for a shitty bundle. So instead of a GPU, like a 3070 costing $900 in a bundle, the buyer would only be paying $800 after the refund.

At least it seems newegg is no longer putting on the Gigabyte PSUs in bundles anymore. I've seen EVGA and ASUS (didn't even know ASUS did PSUs....guess I never really paid much attention to their full lineup before) PSUs in bundles as of lately. I still see what is offered on the shuffle most days, but rarely am I seeing GPUs being listed alone. Most are still bundled with crap I'd venture to guess that most people don't need. It's still a shady tactic from newegg to force extra, unnecessary parts on to a buyer.

Hopefully folks can get newegg to issue a call tag from UPS or FedEx for these returns on newegg's dime, this way newegg eats the shipping costs, too.

Strong disagree. Ther X570 boards have been great IME (far better then that buggy as hell X470 crosshair that asus sold me) and their Z190/290/390 boards have all been solid.

Strong disagree. Ther X570 boards have been great IME (far better then that buggy as hell X470 crosshair that asus sold me) and their Z190/290/390 boards have all been solid.
One word... RGBFusion. :shadedshu: It tends to corrupt the UEFI on B450 boards.
