McDonald's to Offer Free Wireless Internet in United Kingdom

Seeking a new way to bring customers to McDonald's, McDonald's now is the proud owner of the largest free wireless internet provider in the United Kingdom. Every McDonald's restaurant within the United Kingdom will give their customers free access to wireless internet in the store. This is a vast improvement from the regular way to access wireless internet in the UK, which generally involves a contract/pay-as-you-go service, which can add up to 5 pounds per log-in. After the 1,200+ McDonald's restaurants all have free wireless internet, they will own 10% of all wireless coverage in the UK.

I am in Texas and my Mcdonalds give free Wi-fi access. Come to think of it, so does Pinera Bread and Starbucks....

The story's not about free wireless access in the US (common), but free wireless access in Europe (very rare), esp the UK where wireless pricing is INSANE. The example was £5, or $10, just to "connect"!!!

Fair enough if your a very busy person and your always on the go with your laptop, but I rarely see people walking around with laptops, even in the city. I mean, if your so busy that you have to eat and work at the same time you would probably pack your own lunch and not even leave your workplace. On top of that, large double Quarter Pounder meal (greaseburger ) + laptop = :shadedshu

Well, I guess you never travel? If you've ever been to Malaysia or Singapore or anywhere for that matter, you'll see a lot of travellers with notebooks, sitting at McDonalds or Starbucks checking their email etc. I don't trust internet cafe's machines, as they could have any number of malware with keyloggers etc waiting to snatch your internet banking password.

BTW I'd hardly call McDonalds a restaurant.

Wow. Where do you live? Some quiet 'burb? You'd be AMAZED how many people use their PDA's to pick up emails and send messages and link to Skype while they are out on the streets, or in a restaurant. But of course, IF THERE'S NO INTERNET ACCESS YOU AINT GOING TO SEE THEM!!! LOL

Try visiting a city where there IS freely available access points, and take a look around. You'll see lots of people taking advantage of the connection.

I live in San Diego, state California. I get free Wifi support here at StarBucks, public library.

lol. I was stating that I dont see many people with laptops walking around, even in the city itself. Mcdonalds there does offer wifi IIRC, I just put it (the lack of people out and about with laptops) down to the laid back nature of Australia. I can understand the need for it in certain overseas countries though.

Krystals offers it here and alot of the hotels and stuff do to. Also, the resorts as well. I think some others do, like Burger King, but I dont know why Mickey Ds dont do that in the US
