LucasArts and BioWare Corp. today announced that they have entered into an agreement to create an interactive entertainment product. The product, details of which will be unveiled at a later date, will be developed and published by BioWare and LucasArts, and will push the boundaries of the gaming market by utilizing the strengths of both companies to deliver an innovative, high-quality experience.
LucasArts has a deep commitment to developing compelling stories and characters for the unique medium of interactive entertainment, and we have been searching for a developer that shares this value. We found this in BioWare.
Through our previous collaborations, we know that BioWare has an impressive ability to blend gripping stories with technological advancements, and we believe that our upcoming product will deliver an experience that will span the traditional boundaries of video game entertainment.
said Jim Ward, president of LucasArts.

Maybe they will finally produce a star wars game worth playing. Most of the ones so far have been atrocious. Pity its not like the good old X Wing/Tie fighter days...that game should be remade with better graphics. It was damn fun while it lasted.

agreed on revamping x-wing tie fighter games

and damn it are the details on this vague lol, why mention this at all? they say nothing regarding what it is lol

Maybe Lucas has SW:E7 in wraps and planning on doing a double release of a movie along with a game?

Who the heck knows anymore.

Haven't you played either of the KOTOR games? Both of them are brilliant and they were Lucasarts and Bioware IIRC.

I'm really hoping this is another KOTOR game, but somehow I doubt it is :(

Rogue squadron wasn't bad either, looked great as well in the days. And I finished Star Wars on the NES countless times.

Knights of the Old Republic 3~!!!!!

LET IT BE:)

That would be sweet, and I would like a good Star Wars MMO.

There were rumours of a MMO KOTOR... but I think that's too good to be true

Maybe of remake of "Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders"?

Speculation abounds.

The second game was made by Obsidian and was pretty far from the first game.. It was still very good, but the story was a mess-up with tons of incomplete stuff and just confusing things.

Kotor 3 for teh win! :)

Agreed, but an MMO would be nice too. Especially if it had no monthly fees. I'm sorry, but paying to play a game you already bought is lame.

Expecting a company to keep a huge server park running for years for just 40-50 euros is lame as well.
You have to pay your ISP as well even though you already bought a modem. Same with your car, you already bought it yet you keep paying the gas station for fuel. I could come up with countless examples of you paying to support something you already own.

I agree there, you can't expect to get a quality mmo using high performance servers for free, that type of setup is expensive to run.

I really hope it is kotor 3 though i've replayed 1 and 2 the past couple days i need a 3rd lol

I think MMOs are just about the best (potential) entertainment value for the dollar (or euro). Once you start paying a mortgage, all the bills, etc, you come to realize that $10-15 bucks a month for some escapist fun on demand is a pretty sweet deal.

I'm not saying that the games out there are great...

Then don't charge full retail price for the game or lower the monthly fees. Take World of Warcraft for example, do you really think they need $15 a month from it's millions of subscribers just to maintain their servers and pay their workers? I'm sure they could cover the expenses easily for $5 or even $10 a month without charging full price on the game itself.

Look at the Guild Wars series and Diablo II. While Guild Wars functioned exclusively as a MMO they never charged anybody a dime after they bought the retail package just to play the game. Sure you can pay more for more character slots or other expansions, but NO MONTHLY FEES. That's why I tryed the game out and a had a great time with it. Diablo II while not being exclusively online, has a huge online component to itself. Everyone I know who has the game has at least once played online on it. Even Blizzard did not charge a nickel for playing it online, just for the game itself. Obviously monthly fees are just another way to extract money from gamers who are willing to pay almost anything to get their fix.

Same.

But considering Bioware have made nothing but Role Playing Games in the past, and Lucasarts watched Star Wars Galaxies go down in flames, I don't think an MMO is in the making more likely a game based on the books (were theres a gap for them to fill in).

And after being disappointed that Force Unleashed is just an arcade fest for consoles, I hope they release another special title like KotoR. :rockout:

A new MMO would be AMAZING. I was so addicted to the Original Galaxies, the original setup & lore of it all. They really do just need a complete reprogramming of scratch for a new Star Wars MMO, and it could have the same amazingness as OG Galaxies.
Online-based game companies need to take a huge lesson from Blizzard right now: Involving and LISTENING to the consumers when developing a sequel. Who better to take suggestions from than the power players would did nothing else but waste days on end in their games? Starcraft II would not be half of what it is right now without the player base's suggestions, and then their implementation into the game through development.

HOWEVER, I am dying for KOTOR3 to come out. AIY!

I believe that they will... I think Lucasarts has looked at the fact that so many people are hooked now on MMO's, that they need to build a multi-platformed MMO that will draw everyone that lost hope into Star Wars back. Now that Bioware, is in the mist, they have the backbone to do something BIG.

only thing I'm worried about with that, and I'm sure Lucasarts would consider also, is that Bioware hasn't made any MMOs yet. They're in the process of one right now, but that's different than having an established game that's gone through the whole process. We'll see.

I like single player better.

If they go to MMO with KOTR 3 they will kill off the turn based part of they game, and that will ruin the game in a lot of ways.

Maybe it is not to good to be true, when KOTOR II was released Lucas Arts stated they planned a KOTOR III. I hope it is finally coming. I hate the MMO, I like the sp.

So what are we saying then? Talk to Blizzard for making an MMO and Bioware for making a new KOTOR? I think that between Lucas Arts experience (and crash burn) and Biowares tech ability they should be able to make something decent. But it would have to be GREAT to pull enough people away from WoW.

I'm all for a new KOTOR or a new X-Wing/Tie Fighter (although I did fall in love with WingCommander Armada when it was new, 8 floppy install FTW)
