Leaked AMD Documents Show New DX10.1 Feature; RV670 Superiority

WHAT????

Nvidia couldn't bring a DX10.1 card to the market so AMD sucks? Nvidia couldn't do the true DX10 standard and held everyone up so Microsoft could redo the code. AMD has DX10 demos out there for there cards. I see Crysis is running just fine in DX10. The HD2900XT has been one of the top dogs in 3Dmark06. It's not my DX9 looks better than that, it's also rendering other stuff at the same time. This is a quick simple to your face pic that they are talking about. This PDF wasnt made for the average joe, and wasn't all fixed up for marketing.......

nicely defended. Its very true tho, Nvidia couldnt get their act together for a functional card, cried a bit to microsoft, got ATI's fully working GPU virtualisation wiped away and then sang happy songs :shadedshu

Ok now I understand what that pic is showing. With DX10.1 the shader can do color now unlike with shader 4.0.

Ok the ATi logo in the back is putting off light. The balls are probably being rendered by the card and with 10.1 it can render light over the balls like it should be done. every ball can rendered a different light path shadier from where it is at in the pic. What it is saying is that DX10 doesn't have that ability to do that. I would like to see the real demo of this and not just the screen shot of it.

hey thanks for the explaination, i didnt quite understand what was being "shown" but as you pointed out, now it makes sense. i mean if it can do that with Balls lol.....i cant wait to see water being rendered with this global illuminaztion....that would look sick..but dx10 does a pretty decent job at. i hope in dx10.1 they can increase depth perception...but thats my opinion....i havnt played crysis yet, but im looking forward to it hitting shelves soon

good point...i remember the hype about nvidia and there dx10 cards and how they had to apologize for releasing their cards before any non-beta drivers were ready or even coded.

i will stick with amd processors and ati cards... im not bias towards intel or nvidia....i just think that amd/ati utilizes "brains and brawns" with thr products while imo intel just uses power...

I'm still holding faith that ATI will keep true to what they've been doing - I only worry that AMD might start hampering them down . . .

Anyhow, correct me if I'm wrong here, but everyone keeps saying the 2900XT was crap out-tha-box because it couldn't pull AA/AF properly and couldn't keep up with an 8800 GTX - even though the cards were somewhat rushed to market and the 7.5 (or 7.6?) drivers were the first supported drivers for the cards . . .

. . . has not the performance of the 2900s only gotten better with each new driver release?

. . . has not the 2900s AA/AF abilities only gotten better with each new driver release?

give it another few months and recompare the 2900XTs to the 8800GTXs.

So, this new GPU will be on PCIE 2.0, huh? Anyone seen any images of the 2.0 slots (I mean, will it be backwards compatabile with PCIE 1.0)?

im not sure if your talking about the defects each graphics card maker had when it was released?? i bought my hd2900 after prices came down slightly, but there were minor issues with certain Games but were easily fixed with the latest driver updates

See, each update is going to make what they did wrong with that certain card work better. Thats one thing I've all ways liked about ATI. They do try and fix the flaws that were made with each update. And I hope, just like you imperialreign, that AMD doesn't start doing that... Right now I'm having problems with my card, but I know that ATI will come up with a way to make it work... If not, then when I build my new rig, I'll have one that will work out better for me.. I love AGP, But the world doesn't like it.

IDK - I've heard and read in quite a few different sites on the net that the HD2900XTs were horrible compared to the 8800GTXs both visually and performance wise . . .

but, TBH, I haven't actually seen any screen captures or video image comparisons that have backed that up.

This was rendered by a 7900 gs but it should give you a good example of what that picture means.

that's a good one, man! Is that with DX10.1ddd enabled? Makes you wonder if that kind of an improvement would bring a major performance hit!

Yeah you should run FRAPS in the background so we can see the Frame diffrence between the two. lol

yes the hd2600 cards are PCI-E 2.0 I think

weird.....i never had a problem at all with my card, niether visually or performace, im pretty much satisfied

see, that's what has me so confused over the 2900's! Everyone that has one is happy with them, and we've seen they're holding the top records in 3m06, plus screenshots from various games on these GPUs are stunning over what the 1950's were capable of . . .

but, it seems a lot of review sites and other forums it's an entirelly different story . . .

. . . maybe it's just all anti-ATI propaganda being fed by devout FAnVidiois

I bet what it is. Is the simple fact that they are using what came right out of the box... No updates to the card, or anything else of that matter... When they see the box that say
mcb9xx_hwupdatewiz0.png

They click on whats faster... Who knows? All that we know is our benchmarks say otherwise. And us, as the people who use it everyday know that the reviews are wrong!

hahaha .....well some sites try not to be biased, but if u look at their setup, it is biased, the setup they do use favors whatever card they are testing.....what i dont see at all in testing is the same setup but with a different card swiped out......i do admit they do try to setup each system that has similar or "equal" but its not. i havnt tried the newest/latest nvidia cards, last nvidia card i used would be the 5200ultra lol yes i know acient lol

ahahhahahah thats so funny lol.....wait now i i have to really second think review sites lol

I've all ways second guessed review sites... I try and find a person that REALLY IS using that product or something of the same nature.

yeah same....but imo a lot of review sites feed off each other. i personally find that aggravating and misleading. but everything is biased in some ways

I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't take any review for what it says because everyone's setup is always different, but I just find it odd the number of sites that continually give nVidia cards rave reviews compared to their competing ATI cards. Take the 1950's for instance, before I bought mine I remember reading in various places that the 7900s were superior in both graphics and performance, until I looked up the 3m06 scores and it seemed quite the opposite.

I also wonder how many review sites use freebie applications when testing, because it seems that not many reviews are done of newer GPUs at resolutions higher than 1280x1024 (or whatever it is), which is the default res for the "free" version of many benchmarks. I personally found that my 1950 seems to perform a lot better the higher the resoultion is, and turning AA/AF on doesn't seem to impact performance too much, either.

Thats the problem now a day. Reviews don't take the time to do what is needed to show what that product can do. they just spend the SHORT time that is needed to tell what the Editor wants to hear... No one wants to hear what they don't want to hear. And because of that they don't review the product to the extent. I know, that the person that is review the product doesn't have the time to do EVERYTHING in their power to show a TRUTHFUL review.
Now, if they would know what the thing is about and know how to go about the review, then things could be different. Places like ATI, give their reviews the product way in advance to go and check things out. But, it is the reviewer who does what they think is right. Now a day, you can't do a half ass job reviewing anymore... Todays tech. makes it to where you have more to do than just throw it in a system and run it...

the only reviews I tend to trust are those done by MaximumPC. They at least use the same test bed for all their hardware tests, and explain why if they need to switch it up (hardware conflict, etc.)

but, they don't really get into testing every GPU that hits the market, so . . .

I think, and this is what I think... that the only reviews that you really can trust are people like that... Find a place that can natural about the whole ATI and Nvidia fanboy thing and have them review it.... I'll begin to look now at MaximumPC because of what you said Imperialreign. I really do like the review section of TPU. It's done by the people that are working here for us. And if there is any questions that we have, we can ask. We don't have to go through 20 million different e mails just to get that one question answered.

oh but can max pc be fair? They have allways leaned towards Intel, I have been reading them since they were Boot mag but toss them in with many others before I buy. The Intel thing aside they are ok.
