Multiplier modification

ok so i know the multi is cpu based the mobo just reads whats avalible but on my 3600+ brisbane the max multi is 9.5 however when an oc goes wrong the board boots with a like 16.5 11 etc...i was wondering if their was a way seeing as its obviously possible to mod the bios to detect the other multis seeing as id really love to go higher as apposed to moddding the chip.

Multi isn't locked by the BIOS.

Not for a brisbane, I don't think anyone has tried. I think the last unlockable one was the Athlon XP.

The Black edition 5000+ has an unlocked multi, but I've never heard of a way to manually unlock any other CPU.

You can lower down multy from 9,5 to 7 if you are searching for example max for your ram.

All mobile AMD have changable multy, and first edition of normal 2500+ barton.
And like ROB! said all black edition of x2 procasoors also.

But you can change multy in all a64 cpu to smaller value.

yea the last user-unlockable chips were bartons, thouroughbreds, and spitfires, all socket a/462 flavours.

as amd (and intel) add more pins/pads to their processors and the architecture gets smaller, the harder it gets for the average joe to modify them. i believe that there is a way to unlock the multi on all chips, but the connections you would need to make to accomplish this would involve making microscopic incisions and making cross-layer connections, which is more trouble than anyone without a manufacturing plant and a bunch of bright minds working for them has the ability to do.

unless you can carve up the silicon, find the fuses area, and can "solder" a 65nm fuse together i'd say you are out of luck.

there are reports of accidental unlocks but they are not repeatable and often spell the end of the life for a chip

on recent chips both intel and amd have made it almost impossible to unlock the multiplier, but you can on older chips like athlon xp's

its stuck at like 2.8 no matter what maybe 3.1 if you are extremely lucky. but, no matter the temp or cooling they plateau anyways. so unlocking isn't really to needed. fsb at 285-290. It' be nice to be able to change it but, you can't
