Last week, PowerColor introduced a Spectral White spin-off of its flagship Red Devil Radeon RX 9070 XT Limited Edition model. According to fresh inside track info, the Taiwanese manufacturer is preparing yet another premium level RDNA 4 option. VideoCardz has detected whispers regarding a speculated "Red Devil Radeon RX 9070 XT Backplate Edition" product; the online publication has a history of sourcing pre-launch details from board partner industry moles.

PowerColor's older Red Devil graphics card products can be customized with swappable backplates—Devil Skin designs are identified as "Intrusive" and "Generative." VideoCardz believes that the alleged "Backplate Edition" card will be based on the brand's regular Red Devil RX 9070 XT model. It is not clear whether this special edition package will be bundled with successors to the two RX 7000 Series-only Devil Skin attachments, but insiders have indicated a current "in production" status of "Backplate Edition" cards.

VideoCardz has not picked up on signals about a possible "Spectral White Backplate Edition." The manufacturer will likely gauge public interest, soon after the launch of their black/red variant.

Owners of previous-gen Red Devil Radeon cards are familiar with this concept. The Intrusive (SBP-790001) and Generative (SBP-790002) Devil Skin backplates are still available to purchase. At the time of writing, Amazon US lists the more traditional-looking attachment at $17.59. PowerColor's disturbingly organic design demands $40.69.

really really ugly, that entire thing

Your article makes it look like the 7000-series backplates are also compatible with 9070(XT) cards. Is that true? It doesn't say that on PowerColor's site or any of the sources you linked. The picture in the article says "for Red Devil RX 7000 Series Only"

I remember when PowerColor announced the swappable backplates last gen, pretty cool idea, which now looks like everyone is copying / using it in some way, Sapphire and XFX...
The generative looks awesome, but then again, it's all relative and personal.

At this point, I doubt anyone really cares what "edition" of a 9070 XT they get. I'd get a Yeston if I could get one anywhere near MSRP, and I'm not their target market at all.

Earlier today I saw the Red Devil 9070 XT on Amazon (sold/shipped by Amazon) at $849. Already $250 over "MSRP". What are we looking at here? $949? $1k maybe? For a 9070 XT!

I paid $750 for the Hellhound 9070 XT and very nearly passed on it. I can't imagine paying more.

Yeah let's get thicker backplates so some motherboards using slot 1 for x16 won't be able to fit it because of heatsinks..

How about "No".

$849?? Holy cow.
No way in hell (pun intended) I would pay that much for a 9070 XT.

These are fugly (in a good way), and the generative one is yucky. But honestly I could see the value for a very themed build.
Swappable backplates are cool if they're done right. I am mixed on this one.
