Supposed AMD "Radeon RX 9000M" Laptop dGPU Identifiers and RDNA 4 CU Counts Leaked

Officially, AMD is set to reveal the next wave of RDNA 4—in desktop form—at some point within the second quarter of this year. Unlike its main rival—NVIDIA—company representatives have not publicly discussed a comprehensive branch-off into dedicated laptop graphics solutions. Team Red's previous-gen "Navi Mobile" Radeon RX 7000M lineup received little fanfare, and early 2025 "official" talk indicated that company engineers were focused on delivering RDNA 4 to desktop. Additionally, late March leaks suggested an increased future reliance on integrated RDNA 3.5-based graphics solutions. Seemingly out of nowhere, All The Watts!! has produced a list of six tentative Radeon RX 9000M family variants. As interpreted by VideoCardz, the leaker has cryptically included supposed compute unit (CU) counts and VRAM configurations. A rumored Radeon RX 9080M flagship SKU could be based on AMD's Navi 48 GPU design; prepped with 64 RDNA 4 compute units (or 4096 stream processors) and 16 GB of video memory.

The leaked Radeon RX 9070M XT's basic details match certain data points present on the rumored Radeon RX 9070 GRE 12 GB desktop card's specification sheet. VideoCardz reckons that the RX 9070M XT will also utilize Team Red's Navi 48 GPU, but with a reduced compute unit count of 48 (or 3072 SPs). The four remaining RDNA 4 laptop SKUs—RX 9070M, RX 9070S, RX 9060M and RX 9060S—are said to be based on company's Navi 44 GPU IP, and configured with 8 GB pools of VRAM. Two days ago, AMD hinted about new generation Radeon Mobile gaming experiences getting introduced at next month's Computex 2025 trade show.

I guess AMD could still try high end w/ the mobile chips this gen, but still, I guess if its real that would mean we did technically get a 9080 (just not the one anyone was expecting lol.)

So they are naming the 9070XT the 9080M on mobile... I mean I know that how both teams generally do it but seems weird this generation since there is no 9080 or 9080 XT. I would say its because the mobile lineup does not get the 'XT' name on the chips, but apparently there is one on the last and supposedly one this generation getting that.

I would say its because the mobile lineup does not get the 'XT' name on the chips, but apparently there is one on the last and supposedly one this generation getting that.

My guess would be that there was an RX 9080 planned when contracts were made for supplying mobile silicon.
Otherwise, I couldn't blame anyone for thinking this suggests a desktop RX 9080 on the horizon.

So can we expect exactly 0 design wins like we saw with anything north of the 7600m last time around? ( I recall there are a couple of 7800m goes available in external occulink boxes but have never seen a 7800/7900m laptop for sale).

Also they really need to work better on the release schedules as by the times these are “released’ Nvidia will have already seen up the entire dGPU laptop space..

Which is really annoying as the 5000m series are “meh’ (5070ti mobile aside as it’s actually interesting) and the 9070 shows decent efficiency is possible with RDNA4. That and the 8060S is excellent but again not in enough readily available laptops,

RX 9070 XT should be possible to do with sub-200W TGP. I can achieve -30% power limit with a good -130mV undervolt on my RX 9070 XT and I see it achieve around 190W TGP in Apex Legends. It still spikes to 300W sometimes, but if the ODM can address that in their gaming laptops, it should be a good mobile GPU.

Framework 16 got the 7700S and will probably get updated to the 9070S.

So, if the desktop RX 9070 XT is close to the desktop RTX 5070 Ti, the same GPU will be at the same level or even better than Nvidia's mobile RTX 5080. From that perspective AMD could even add an XT after than 9080M.
Also, at least AMD puts an M after the model number, where Nvidia tries to make consumers believe they are getting a real RTX 5080 with their laptop.

Does make you wonder what the point of this even is. With how unobtanium the laptop GPUs are perhaps AMD should just stick with iGPU gaming. Especially considering Strix Halo is competitive up to 7600M.

How does amd putting an m at the end help the consumer? How the hell am I supposed to know whether or not the 9080m is better than the 9070xt? Please, elaborate, I'm all ears

You are criticizing nvidia ( as usual) but amd is literally pretending you are getting a card better than the 9070xt by using the 9080 naming yet in reality you are not. They are trying to fool the consumer hardcore.
