AMD 780 Chipset - Like Never Before... Marketing video

Interesting name considering nVidia has a chipset named 780i currently on the market. You would think they would choose something a little less similar.

well nVidia is using the 98XX right so im thinking they did the same

This sounds very interesting indeed. With AMD’s chipsets of tomorrow they are looking to at the very least, develop platforms that will allow for less costly upgrading. The released YouTube clip states that this is an inexpensive way to upgrade and to me sounds a bit too heavenly. But I am hopeful that AMD will release a platform that can and will allow for high end performance to be its mainstay. Let’s hope for the best but I am still skeptical since AMD let me down concerning the Phenom release, “B2 stepping anyone”?

This sounds like the perfect balence between gaming and general home computing I've been waiting for. I just want to see how this Hybrid Crossfire X tech performs, though, before I jump to any conclusions. What I really want to know is, when you do add a graphics card to this, do you use the onboard out ports or the graphics card's out ports? The board comes with VGA, DVI, and HDMI. I don't want all those going to waste!

Edit: Oh I see. "SurroundView" will allow 2 monitors connected to the IGP, 2 to the graphics card. But, just out of sheer curiosity, will you get full GPU performance from the monitors connected to the IGP if you have a dedicated graphics card?

For an average gamer who dosnt need 2 cards this would be great, my ideal board would be 4gb of ddr2 ram, 3850, one of the new phenoms coming out.

For media centres this would be great pair it with a cheap card and you can play anything. For Those who want a cheap but good second system you know for friends to use or other family members flatmates to use. I could see myself getting one of these but unfortunatly i have a decent AM2 crossfire board so it would need to be a second system

Pair this crossfire hybrid with a 3850 512mb and your set to go. Phenoms are cheap so that makes up for the lack of performance compared to similar Intel CPU.

Wheres AM3 already god damn AM2+ rehash of last gen tech.

This video actually really piqued my interest. Before now it was all just Nvidea and Intel for me, but this may have just changed my mind....Waits patiently for the governemnt $300 to $1200 checks to come in....

But really this may just encourage me to start building a Desktop computer for myself now, lol.

Id say it would only cost me about $600 to build a decent gaming computer if this chipset is decently priced at around $120 or less, then im sold.

Does anyone else know when this is going to actually be coming out for the consumer to actually buy?

I have gotta say .... it sounds like propaganda. Who would resort to Intel onboard for gaming or even HD viewing?

They don't mention what video cards either AMD or the Intel system is using, so I think their are a lot of blanks they could've filled themselves and just show the numbers side by side. Although I hope this isn't the case, they should at least mention what the specs are for both systems running the HL2 with the FPS shown side by side.
But overall, I think this chipset is promising the way they presented it. We'll see how well it fairs against the 780i.

Err thats because the AMD 780 and Intel G35 both are intergrated graphics chips? They are running WITHOUT graphics cards. Well considering that the 780 is technically way more superior i wouldnt be suprised. AMD are using ATi in the best way possible now!

oh yeah... but nvidia pioneered the single-gpu tech WAY better

no, they just pay companies to use they cards and optimize games for their cards
look at Half-Life 2 or Call of Juarez, they are optimized for ATi and ATi Nvidia at these games

looks good and all running farcry, why not show crysis and DX10 games? just like ati card they like DX9 better, i like amd but im staying intel because there cpu line is much higher, we all know what AMD is doin with the 780 is for low cost and mid performance, games want more and more these days even with Hybrid Graphics, it would of been great if it was using a nvidia type chip so you could run a geforce card like a 9800GX2, but AMD still says down low range for budget system's.

Lol, great marketing video truely great. Only thing I really get out of this is that AMD is trying to break into the OEM market in a big way, but then again haven't they always been? I'm going to look around for some benches on this mobo. While yes the video is good...One has to keep in mind this is a marketing video. I'm skeptical of chipsets now days.

Interesting that they are still having problems with USB, but I guess that can be overlooked. Nice to see that are pulling more than the G35 on 64-bit support as well. I'm not one to go for Gigabyte boards anymore, as the last chipset Gigabyte I owned had poor overclocking support. Anyhow, looks like it's a decent board fFROM this review, just not for me. I'm going to read 2 more reveiws I found.

ATI's 3000 series cards arent exactly low end buddy. Their actually pretty high end and compete quite nicely with nvidias GeForce 9000 series chipsets. They may not be at the top all the time but dam if they arent one hell of a bang for the buck.

Low end in his opinion is high end in your opinion. I suggest you look around for his mods.
