S3 Graphics today informed that the S3 Graphics Chrome 430 GT desktop cards, are now available at online retail affiliate GStore. Engineered to be the first S3 graphics solution to deliver full DirectX 10.1 support, the 65nm-built Chrome 430 GT GPU is clocked at 625MHz while the 256MB of GDDR2 memory is set to work at 500MHz. Moreover the card supports the PCI Express 2.0 graphics card specification, plus D-SUB and DVI (with HDCP) connectivity. "S3 Graphics has once again delivered an outstanding product, leveraging our graphics, video, and power savings core competencies," said Dr. Ken Weng, GM for S3 Graphics. "The feature-rich Chrome 430 GT challenges the current discrete graphics landscape, bringing new functionalities previously seen only on high end desktops, bringing new meaning to the terms 'affordable gaming' and 'home entertainment'."

That ain't too shabby for $59 -- hell, I'll buy one just to try and help break the duopoly on the graphics card market...

Wouldn't be a bad idea for a backup card at all. I wonder how it performs against an x1950Pro.

Unfortunately, S3's hardware has always been hampered by drivers that make ATI's efforts look stellar by comparison. So the specs may not be too bad, but I fear that the actual product won't be up to much - unless (read: I really really hope) S3's driver team manages to pull something out of the hat.

Dang, that is a VERY small video card!!

It's great that they're pursuing graphics cards, it would be nice to have another real competitor.

Judging from past cards, performance should be fine for a middle of the road cheap mainstream card....... the deciding factor will be drivers.

I am curious on how it would overclock if you put a real cooler on the thing though ;)

GDDR2? No thanks considering for about the same money you can get a card that isn't handicapped by it.

I can only see this product being on par with Intel's latest on-board offerings.

what does that mean?

I might buy it for my GF's build.

I just want it tohave excellent hd playback.;)

what does that mean?

FACT: ATi sucks at making drivers at first. Remember the 2900XT and how it got destroyed by everything until good drivers came out then it beat the GTS.

Yeah every week or so my ATi control panel crashes while playing Bioshock etc.

Really? I haven't had any problems with ATi drivers lately, except for shoddy performance on my old X2. What version are you using?

BTW - How's the Zalman? :D

I have a 2900xt from lunch and haven't any unoficial problem with them..Of course problems were many but everybody knew about them so i didn't pulled up my hair too much with them..
ShadowFold: you talking about 7.11 driver version ?

Very interesting. S3 should come out with there version of "crossfire" *joking* But, definitely interesting nonetheless.

Should be a very nice HTPC card. It's so small that I'd like it for my C16 project, but mITX only has one PCI slot :)

good one. affordable and a good performer.. hope to see more of these in OEM workstations. S3 ftw!

Now if they could Provide something to Rival Geforce and Radeon in the Top Mid Grade Cards (3850/8800GT)

This makes me wonder if Power PC will ever make a computer processor comeback. (following their huge success w/the PS3)

Power PC, you mean the Mac Power PC?

For a $60 card, it is the best in its segment. Reviews suggest it beats both the GeForce 8400 GS and the Radeon HD 3450
