Specs:
iMON Ultra Bay
ASUS DVD ROM
Rosewill E-SATA external HDD bay

Mods:
Took a Staples brand drawer box (design specific for my style desk) and turned it into a satellite box for my iMON Ultra Bay and a DVD ROM. Used the innards of a Rosewill E-SATA HDD enclosure to create the E-SATA transition for the DVD ROM. Spliced the iMON Ultra Bay power cable into my current Power Supply cable (didn't want to use the adapter included with the Ultra Bay.

Drawer box - $19.99 //
Rosewill E-SATA HDD enclosure (for parts)- $24.99 newegg //
Hardware - ~$5.00 //
iMON Ultra Bay - already owned //
ASUS SATA DVD ROM - already owned //
Time - about 4 hours

ok, so... when I built n.audBl I ended up using every single 5.25" drive bay the case had (11 in all) so I had to step down to just a single optical drive. Also, after about half way into the build it became obvious that installing the iMON Ultra Bay in the front of the case would be completely impractical and ultimately useless. So I have been looking for some sort of a 3-4 bay external 5.25" enclosure, but the only thing I could find were HDD enclosures that wouldn't really work too well for installing the Ultra Bay.

This is my solution.

Also... and this will probably sound lame to a lot of people, I prefer to not have to open the front doors on the computer case if I don't have to. It's not laziness... it's just a bit annoying. I honestly wish the tai chi didn't come with front doors. I went so far as to remove them at one point, but it was very obvious that something was missing on the front of the case. Plus, as those of you with front doors on your case know, the doors have a tendency to get left open most of the time. It seems like every time I open them to load or remove a disk or turn the computer on, they just end up staying open for a long time. With this satellite setup, I can use the iMON remote to power the computer on (even from a complete power down state) and the optical drive is right in front of me and very convenient. Now the case doors stay closed most of the time and the room just looks a bit more neat and organized because of it. Like I said, probably sounds lame to most of you... but hey, it's what I wanted ;-)

what exactly is the iMON?

He's been reported

I had a Jewler friend plate my DD tdx w/ White gold. It has been about a year...maybe a little less. But, no loss in performance. On the other hand I have an old build at a freinds, that has a TT watercooler probably ten different metals in that. lol. But it's got fesser coolant. One year plus no visible problems.
That TUngsten guy really seems to know his stuff. Have you seen his website. I pretty sure it's all art, reguardless it is some beautiful stuff.

what exactly is the iMON?

http://www.soundgraph.com/Eng_/Products/imon26.aspx?topMenu=2&subMenu=1&leftMenu=26

In short, its a control interface and information display unit for media (HTPC style) functions. It is also an infrared receiver for either the MCE or iMON pad remote controllers.

It displays things like:
Graphic EQ
Weather
System Info (CPU usage, MEM Usage, HDD stats, etc.)
Media info like artist, album, track #, track time, etc.
News feeds
etc.

It also works as a satellite hard power station for the PC. In other words, the chassis power button runs through the iMON and then to the MB. The iMON's power cable is spliced into the 24 pin plug from the power supply so it always has power to engage the power on relay and turn the computer on via remote control.

Our computer room will be set up in such a way that my computer (n.audBl) will serve as the main media player in the room. With the iMON set up the way I have it, my fiance will be able to control the system via remote from her side of the room without having to walk around the desk to change songs, volume, functions, etc.

Finally, once we finish getting our furniture we will have a futon in the computer room on the opposite wall of my computer. I will have full HTPC capabilities including cable TV so this computer will serve as a second television/movie player if we ever want to watch different shows. With the iMON i can sit on the futon and use the remote to switch channels/functions.

Plus... it looks cool ;-)

Sorry, my last post was supposed to go to EnergyFx's nickel plate experiment

Im back!!!!

Hello all! My first post in a while. Might i just say this is a nice little mod and a bit of quality shines through on this. well done Sir.

Interesting way of utilizing it dude,

8/10 - great idea however it looks a little unfinished.

... it looks a little unfinished.

I have to agree. If I ever find corner molding small enough, I will trim around both componants... but so far everything I have found has been way too big.

That's fair enough.

your mod

good work!
