R700: Several Product Details Exposed

um someone needs to help me out here.. im a little lost... what the hell are the phenoms doing here? is r770 a phenom or something?

i'm hoping so too, although i wont have the moeny to buy one, nor the res i play at ,LOL . wat a waste this card will be for my res 1280x1024 except for crysis .

Once I get my new monitor I'll be playing at 1680x1050, with the odd occasion playing 1080p if I take the PC downstairs.

Just noticed, if you get a 4870X2 and once I get my new CPU and cooler, we will have near identical systems!

the 4870 X2 will be 10.5'' long (considering that Tom's Hardware's picture is the real deal)

The 8800GTX was also 10.5" long, its pretty much a standard length for high-end cards.

Here's what went wrong. This story was published properly. Then I worked on a phenom article in which I chose the same image filenames (1.jpg, 2.jpg.....) as the one on this article. Uploading those Phenom article's images overwrote files on the server. Fixed.

This looks good: :toast:
Good news! I can confirm that based on my own tests microstuttering is gone on R700!

I've tested with R700 (ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2) and R680 (ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2) in Crysis (1600x1200 and High settings). I used Fraps and enabled Frametimes logging. I recorded 2 seconds from exactly the same point in game (loaded from save game). Based on my recorded data, with ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 frames are rendered after ~21,5 and every other frame after ~49,5 ms. With ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 all framres are rendered after ~ 21,9 ms.

It's not FPS, its ms. Explanation (1s=1000ms):
21.9ms doesn't mean 21.9FPS. It means 1000/21.9 = 46 FPS.

Every odd frame at 20ms and every even frame at 50ms puts the FRAPS framerate at 1000/35 = 28.5FPS; and puts the actual fluidity around 1000/50 = 20 FPS

Every frame at 20ms puts both the FRAPS framerate and the "real" framerate at 1000/20 = 50FPS. Believe it or not, the fluidity of 4870x2 in that certain scene is 2.5 times better than 3870x2

Well, damn.

Seeing as how there's already news of Nvidia rushing ahead with g300 GPU plans, I take it there's no dual-g92b-55nm card in the works from Nvidia? That'd be a pretty neat card, but since the g200 is already out, is all dev on the g92 dead?

Didnt notice that before. Thanks for pointing it out.

What I dont get, how do they know what the highest score is going to be on that day??

Or is the just a draft, basically showing the partners what is going to go on the retail box. Then when it has actually been done it will be updated with the correct data.

well i highly doubt my da 800 can power 2 of those.

Looks like ATI has finally decided to go absolutely spartan on nVidia this round . . . oh, yes . . . there will be blood

(puns inteneded)

Wow, simply awesome. 500 bucks for this is definitely worth it.

Yes. So much for GPU Cafe's claim.

I was laughing as I typed that^ (no more) :D
August 12 is the date for the street. The preview is still slated for Monday.

AMD just did a tit for tat (9800GTX+ launch; preview & then 4 weeks later the product hits retail)

Preview doesn't amount for a launch, does it?

I really hope there isn't microstuttering issues with HD4870X2. It looks promising, but we'll just have to wait and see. btw, does anyone know much it costs for AMD to make HD4870X2s? It would be interesting to know. :twitch:

I wonder sometimes if the guys from 3DFX are working for ATI.

Obviously the definitions differ then, and they are specific to NV and ATI. The HD4850 was launched/released on the same day, though samples were sent out early and NDAs struggled to keep a gag on us.

(Nvidia) -- tHIS IS mADNESS !!!!!

(ATi) No this is RADEEEOOON !!!

(ATi) :nutkick: (Nvidia)

yeah i wonder if anyone from 3dfx went to ATi, i knew the merger messed up ATi a little with people not wanting to relocate offices

Didnt 3dFX get bought by Nvidia? so they would have all the engineers

Technically speaking the 4850 was launched the day it was in people's hand and they started posting their bench results. AMD was forced to launch the 4850 with previews. Even the 4870 was available on launch day.

Totally different with the GTX260 and 9800GTX+ launch.

Nvidia didnt buy all of 3dfx just the bits they wanted, think of it more along the lines of a pack of wolves closing in and taking the little peices they want. For instance Nvidia doesnt own the rights to 3dfx SLI technology some 2d grahpics company does that does specialized computers for bussiness ect. NVidia bought what tech they wanted and the rest of the tech world feed on the remains.

It's just that it used to be nvidia & 3DFX, ATI wasn't even in the game with any card, just seemed like shortly after the nvidia, 3DFX buy out, that ATI started coming out with cards to compete against nvidia. & here they are today still battling, I sometimes wish 3DFX was still around to battle.

I disagree ,ATI at the time had the radeon 8500 and was about to launch the 9500 pro around the time Nvidia bought 3DFX.After that the 9700 pro and XT`s started.i remember this because when i went in to buy my V5000 Sanjay at the store ask if I would buy the 9500 for $150 dollars cheaper ,I said no and the rest is history.
