While Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) still dominates the web-browser market and Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and Opera among others catching up, a new browser is taking shape at a global level (read stable English version) called Sleipnir. This browser originates from Japan, made by Yasuyuki Kashiwagi that leads the company Fenrir Inc. This browser is popular among Japanese technophiles. The browser uses two rendering engines, Trident and Gecko. Trident is that which drives IE while Gecko runs a host of former Netscape-derivatives such as Firefox among others. A small button at the bottom-left corner of the browser window allows user to switch the render-engines since different pages display differently depending on the browser used, a functionality already achieved by Firefox when the popular add-on 'IE-tabs' is installed.

At this point the makers of this browser hope to capture at least 5% of the browser market share which looks steep but since Firefox was written off in the same way, who knows? Just that Firefox was something 'refreshing' when it came about. Following the success of Firefox, several browsers did mushroom before Sleipnir, FoxIe comes to mind, which used IE engine and a Firefox-like interface. Although Sleipnir doesn't have a rendering engine of its own, using Trident and Gecko helps with compatibility. You can visit the official website here.

Doesn't look too special at all... still it will be worth a test.

EDIT: Did I saw Proxy at the menu bar?? Perhaps it has capability to connect to a proxy by itself.

what happened with Opera? i dont here about them as much anymore

Nothing looks impressive till you try it out your self.. Or that's the way I look at it.. But, downloading now to try out. All ways up for something new!

I'll try anything once. I usually use IE or Firefox, which ever my mouse pointer is closest to.

i just downloaded it, its not bad, the plugins are kind of cool actually, it uses more of an IE 5/6 type interface

Oh, I didn't mean to single you out in that. I am sorry if you thought I did.. :toast: I was just using that word as a staring point.. Sorry for that man.

hope its not half cocked

I don't like it at all. I am going to keep using firefox. when you google things alot of it isn't even in full english.

Oh you didnt single me out haha, no worries i was just blinkered by my firefox use. I need to be more open to use other programs than my old familiars.

:toast:

hmmmm I still using the latest Firefox V.2 - still no intention of jumping to firefox 3 anytime soon as i kinda built my firefox up into my own mini empire & I cant be arsed to back up & restore bookmarks, settings & themes unless theres a handy little tool i could use that does it for me

I am using vista. Also i didn't see any problems for about a week

hey i just noticed that too. well i gave it it a try and i didn't like it, im already use to firefox, but is Opera still making itself noticable?

i just dont like all the setting toooooo many of them

its confusing

firefox is established and is easier to use, i never use opera or ie or safari for windows because firefox is easier to use and has all the plugins addons i would need

firefox is a hog for resources but not an issue for me

i looked interesting but not for me just yet

Well, from that screenshot I don't like the look of it. Too cluttered and as Btarunr already stated Firefox can do the dual rendering engines with the IE Tab plug-in.

agree :) i did the aero glass effect for ff3

im using XP - so I dont get the use of 'aero' however there is a theme that i can download for FF3 that makes FF3 look a littl 'aero' but I like dark themes!!!

Grrrrrr - totally raped my 'Black Japan' & 'Redshift V2' themes.... i want them back :3

isnt an improvment over firefox with ie-tabs.. ill pass

have you tried it without any extensions you have on? I've noticed that a lot of people complain about Firefox taking up a lot of resources, when it's really the extensions they're using -- I use Firefox as a dev environment at my job (without any extensions or themes) and even after a day's worth of browsing with dozens of tabs, it hardly uses over 90MB of RAM, no joke.
