Silent Hill: Homecoming banned in Australia

wow , im just want play it

all this does is encourage piracy and imports. for gods sake we have R rated movies (porn) so why the hell is there no R rated games?

Because if there was no porn, people would start rioting, and probably be raping in the process.

I think thats what would happen only in the US.

My personal stance of this? I do not believe its oppressive, the only people who are complaining are the people who don't even live in Australia...

Sorta going off topic, but when will they make a "too stupid for audience" rating? Shit like disaster movie seriously deserves a ban....

First a toy gun, now this :D; Will i be charged for possession of an illicit PC game?

You already can if ya happen to own Postal its sad :shadedshu

aye, im from australia just like the few of you posting here, and i say its bloody bullspackle! Ive had to miss out on buying some very nice games because of this nonsense that goes on with the rating of games that come into this country. to say that only people outside of Australia are complaining is just a crock.

Next thing you know Australia toughens up in piracy. . . . .

I wonder what would happen if Jack Thompson went to Aussy.... You guys wouldn't have any games. LOL.

i'm pretty sure i'd find a way to get him locked up, if i ever met him. i'm sure that racism and prejudice arent something he'd like to be accused of.

also, he's a tool.

He better not keep ya disbarred arse out of our country.

Ok, now I've GOTTA try this one lol!

Banned!?!

Well that’s just downright un-American,…..oh wait,…..

also, besides the obvious censorship aspect of this, what is this online only b.s. for the pc version? I think that's just lame, I love the excitement of opening a box to a game it's like Christmas!, plus actually having a printed manual without having to go online and download one then waste print paper on it, plus half the time those download things have issues and you can't even get it to download properly or the site is down etc etc....LAME.

Konami has confirmed that its upcoming survival-horror game "Silent Hill: Homecoming" has been refused classification in Australia, so selling it there is illegal. According to a Atari spokesman (Atari is the local distributor for Konami) Australia's Classification Board found issue with the high impact of Silent Hill's violence.

Silent Hill: Homecoming is just one more victim in a series of banned games in Australia this year. Dark Sector, Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, and Fallout 3 were all banned in 2008, though both Dark Sector and Fallout 3 were eventually allowed back into the country after some modifications were made.

The game is currently being developed for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows. The PC version will be distributed exclusively through Valve's Steam digital content delivery service.

Alright, I don't know anything about this game or the first one for that matter but WTF would they need to ban Fallout3 for???
Sorry if I've just been sleeping but I hadn't heard that before.

yes i love opening a new box and running up a game for the first time! but i acctually need that printed manual because i have a lot lower success rates with legit copies of games vs downloaded games :shadedshu

The US has to many groups that protect our rights to let these things get banned.

The US wouldn't riot because our strip clubs and whore houses are geared up for volume.

People would just get pornography illegally.

Videogames are art. Banning art is wrong. Expression is directly linked with sanity. Blocking people from expressing themselves is dangerous. Thats why there is freedom of religion and free press in the US.

I agree with everything you've said there, but I'm gonna go ahead and argue the other side just for fun :p

The problem with talking about "art" and "expression" like that is the fact you are 100% correct about it being linked with sanity. Some people's form of "art" and "expression" include murder and rape. Kinda hard to side with art there :ohwell:

Well US law always states the "right to pursue happiness", does not cover infringing on other peoples rights. It covers forms of expression, or art. Thats how the law in america sees it. Its all defined within the subject of "Civil law" in great depth. If you would like I can elaborate more, but I am not trying to derail the thread here. :D

Yeah, I did entirely overlook that part, but anybody who's going to try and argue that they've murdered and/or raped someone as a form of art is probably going to have some interesting ideas of what other people's rights are. ie: "they were scum and shouldn't have had the right to love" could be said by a self-righteous serial killer aiming to 'cleanse' the population.

Back on topic [sorta]: Anybody wanna send me a working ps2 so I can get caught up on silent hill? :o

I wasn't aware that they were released on xbox . . . hrm :ohwell:
