I know what you mean, you might be able to sell your 8120 and get a 8350/7 for cheap second hand to last you till Zen? otherwise sell your mobo/cpu/ram and get a i5 6500 system

Just played a round of BF3 (yes, 3). Was getting between 60 and 90 with everything maxed.

Okay. I think the problem is wow it's just demanding a cpu with high ipc that bulldozer simply hasn't - bf3 runs fine because it's a multi cpu game. Maybe wait a few months for the new cpus of amd and Intel before you upgrade. Better prices, more options.

Hey thanks for posting this, just got a 1060 and had some similar questions.

In my case, the one game (Star Citizen) hasn't had its network code optimized, so it runs slow, but I learned some good diagnostic steps here!

Adjust the Nvidia driver.. AA off and such. this will give you 20+fps boost ..if you play fast phasing games you do not use AA. Adjust the driver and overclock the card. but the 680 you had was actually a fucking good card. But the GTX 1060 is better. runs cooler. needs less power, overclockes better.

To be able to pull the same frames I was probably running on medium, maybe a couple of things high. As opposed to now running everything maxed out.

So the card is most definitely working correctly it's just my older CPU I suppose. The question now is, do I upgrade to a 6600k or wait on Zen? I feel like I might be waiting another couple of months though if I choose to wait. >.<

Better wait if you can. If the low fps is too bad to play then buy now.

On my old rig, which had 2 super clocked 780 Ti's and a 4930k, I usually only got around 10-20FPS more than my friends who ran it on much less powerful cards; R9 380x, 770 etc. While the game is great for low-mid end pc users, it doesn't seem to boast great improvements for higher end users.

If you have all of your settings on ultra, then I doubt you will get more than 30-40FPS in SW even with a 1060. I only got around 40-70, depending on population. It would be helpful to know what settings you're running the game on. WoW in almost any system will be bottlenecked by cpu (and yet frustratingly enough has horrible multi core utility).

As ZoneDymo said, you should also check out other games. Also ensure that you don't have a Foreground/background FPS cap, which you can check by going into the advanced menu in the system menu.

Has WoW been given options to adjust the player character detail levels?

I know that was thé fix in Guild Wars 2, pushing FPS up from 10-15 to 60-90 simply because the game was no longer loading twenty thousand different player models, but replaced them with one or two grey ones.

Also, benchmarks for WoW won't show you the real life impact on a system on live servers. They only show ideal top end FPS for this game, about as informative as a plain sheet of paper.

This is 100% a CPU util issue. Check your options in WoW for anything that adjusts visible player counts or detail levels on player models. It will probably dramatically boost FPS. In addition, run fullscreen non windowed and disable everything you got running in background. You should stress the CPU with just the game and nothing else.

your temps never went above 53 if I remember correctly. have you set a temp limit. this could just be a driver issue also. imo its not completely your cpu bottleneck. can you run WoW with task manager open on cpu usage pls.
I'm also upgrading my cpu motherboard memory but now is not the time. wait until January and there should be a few sky lake chips going cheap. as caby lake leaks have shown it to be as powerful as a 6core i7 with impressive single core performance aswell. good luck with the upgrade what ever you choose to do.
