Intel today announced full details and availability for the new 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900KS, the world's fastest desktop processor. It delivers up to 5.5 GHz max turbo frequency—in spec with Intel Thermal Velocity Boost and features Intel Adaptive Boost Technology (Intel ABT) to provide the ultimate gaming experience.

"Intel continues to push the envelope for desktop gaming with the new 12th Gen Intel Core i9-12900KS processor. Based on Intel's 12th Gen performance hybrid architecture, this processor can hit 5.5 GHz on up to two cores for the first time, giving the most extreme gamers the ability to maximize performance," Marcus Kennedy, general manager of Gaming, Creator & E-sports Segment at Intel.

The unlocked i9-12900KS processor is the ultimate processor for enthusiasts and gamers who want the fastest processor available. With 16 cores (eight Performance-cores and eight Efficient-cores) and 24 threads, and up to 5.5 GHz max turbo frequency, 150 W processor base power and 30 MB Intel Smart Cache for even more gaming power and performance.

Key features and capabilities of the i9-12900KS include:
  • Up to 5.5 GHz max turbo frequency with Intel Thermal Velocity Boost.
  • Intel Adaptive Boost Technology for improved gaming performance by opportunistically allowing higher multi-core turbo frequencies.
  • 16 cores (eight P-cores and eight E-cores), 24 threads, 150 W processor base power, 30 MB Intel Smart Cache, and PCIe Gen 5.0 and 4.0 support.
  • Up to DDR5 4800 MT/s and DDR4 3200 MT/s support.
  • Chipset compatible with existing Z690 motherboards with latest BIOS recommended for the best gaming experience.
The i9-12900KS processor allows gamers and overclocking enthusiasts to take performance to the next level.

When It's Available: This special edition processor will be available beginning April 5 with a recommended customer price starting at $739. It can be found at retailers worldwide as a boxed processor and integrated into systems from Intel's channel and OEM partners.

How large of a radiator is needed to keep this one cool?
As large as the 12900k. Have it running on a u12a (tiny single tower cooler). No problems whatsoever running cinebench r23 for hours long

12600K already beats my 9900KS in games so this is OVAHKILL for me. Better getting 12600K for way cheaper.

A "tiny single tower cooler" which costs more than most 280mm AIOs (including the best one on the market, the Arctic Freezer II).
Yes but it performs worse than most aios and dual tower coolers which cost less than it. So the cost is kinda irrelevant, is it not? Ak620 or the assassin 3 cost significantly less and they both perform similarly or better.

His point was about the size of the cooler / heatsink, so thats what I focused on. It doesnt need a huge cooler, do you disagree with that?

Exactly the same as for the 12900K. I know you tried to be snarky - didn't work.

The 5.5GHz frequency is attainable only on two selected cores. It's much better binned as well, so the increased turbo frequency of P and E-Cores doesn't affect its power output.

5.5 isnt even that high, the average 12900k can hit 5.6-5.7.

I find it amazing anyone would even considering buying at Newegg anymore after that whole GN etc affaire
Hi,
I've not had any issues from them personally but I usually only buy ddr4 memory from them

As far as delaying UPS shipments could of been as simple as they weren't supposed to be shipped before official release date ?

5.5ghz, at stock, all cores?
Hi,
No just a couple cores "if" cooling is good enough to keep throttling from kicking in so clock may hit for a few seconds and drop like a rock.

Another Keep Spending CPU version.........

Another "no one forces you to buy this CPU"
Another "people who buy such products allow companies to spend money on R&D which will ultimately trickle down to the rest of us so that we will be able to enjoy the same performance for a lot less money a little later"
Another "progress cannot be stopped"

When I see comments like yours I only have disgust and contempt, sorry.

Meanwhile AMD sold their Ryzen 5000 desktop CPUs for insanely inflated prices for over a year and almost no one here on TPU batted an eye. If it's Intel, "oh, an evil corporation".

Moat likely yea they will. With a $740 MSRP, newegg will inflate that by more than $100.
Hi,
B&H photo does that to.

Newegg was actually 60.us so with this below in mind no telling it was a thought they recalled to either charge more "doubt they can" or they just shipped before release and weren't supposed to ?
What you might not know is after Newegg shipped everyone’s 12900ks cpus out they decided to go back to there old ways and they contacted ups to have all packages intercepted and shipped back to there warehouse. They didn’t inform any of the buyers what was going on and still haven’t. I personally experienced this yesterday and when I contacted customer support they had no idea what was going on, and refused refund until they received there product back to the warehouse. Great job again Newegg

I couldn't care less about this. I'm just glad we have a lot of SKUs in the $200-300 price range again. From both camps.

And I do recall people on TPU complaining about AMD's 5000 series prices but as with anything, over time people stop caring.

People stopped whining. Because there's no point whining for months about something out of your control. Doesn't mean people stopped caring, though.

but things are really simple: while most people buy mainstream parts, some people don't and will buy something outside the perf/$ sweetspot. Manufacturers love them.
