I know this horse has been flogged a few times in the past but @W1zzard we are in 2024 and yet still there is no dark mode for the forums? I have a crappy 400nits HDR certified monitor so not even that bright by current standards, and by far, TPU is the brightest site I view, literally burns my eyes (on a PC, mobile isn't AS bad) off white/blue tint is so 2010's, literally hurts my eyes, also while I'm at it, when inputting text/replying to a forum post, if you want to edit it then forget about it, your black cursor turns white inside the text input window, I turn into Mr Magoo trying to find out where it has disappeared, surely after so many years of people commenting on the same issue (no dark mode) this should be doable?

Use dark reader extension. Bam! Done.

Yes, more browser extensions is what I want... missing the point, it's ugly, it's too bright on HDR monitors and is about 10 years behind other sites, Don't think it would be so hard to have an option for users to choose

Always a choice. Use an extension or not, you are capable of resolving the matter on your own.

Get a browser that has native dark mode support, such as Opera GX :nutkick:

it doesn't resolve the matter, you know this, dark reader extensions no matter which ones, have issues with certain sites that don't have that option available natively, are you just trying to be obtrusive for the sake of it? should I not have an opinion that doesn't align with yours or not want to express an opinion, after all I thought I was in the feedback section of the forum, thank you for speaking for the owner and putting me in my place

Ah forgot why I had you on ignore, thank you for reminding me

it is not that simple, they do not work universally for all sites and there are issues with using them, by using your own SIMPLE logic, why can it not be implemented by the website owner IF it is indeed as simple as you say, seriously take your condescending remarks and go away unless you know what I am talking about

I'm not obtrusive, I'm blunt. I told you how to resolve it, you don't seem to want to because (inset your reasoning here). And that's fine. But you always have a choice. I use Dark Reader with chrome on TPU. It's the only site I have it work with (granted I don't visit many sites) and I have no issues with it. I solved the no dark mode on TPU myself.

Unless W1zzard comes through and says he's working on it - it's not going to happen as he said in previous topics about this. You certainly can ask, but don't hold your breath.

Insert reasoning here.... I told you 2x extensions don't always work, compatibility issues with different sites etc, but hey you missed that? thank you for being @W1zzard mouthpiece on his website development, I hope you never have an opinion or suggestion for this site, I will throw it in your green face

It's not gonna happen, but dude's obviously picking a fight so, no point being here any further. We've provided a few options but otherwise we're in His Majesty's blocklist :D;)

True. Can't help those that won't help themselves.

You can always wear sunglasses at night which requires no browser plugin and comes with a cool theme song.

Tried that. Every time I put them on, someone yells "yeah" somewhere. Very unsettling.

literally burns my eyes
Then you probably have your brightness set too high, or need to fix your ambient lighting, or need to consult a physician.

I'm not saying having dark mode wouldn't be a plus, it would. But that's more of an aesthetic thing than a functional one, tbh.

Um...

This! It is on Firefox AND Chrome.

Enjoy.

Why the hostility?

If you open a thread asking a general question, other members are naturally going to try and help you solve it.

If you're only interested in speaking to Wizz, send him a PM.

Yeah. I put this off for a while. But I finally listened as it's nighttime and my eyes are getting lazered into melty blobs on the floor.

Just installed Dark Reader.

Eyes congealing, feel much better now. Anyone know a good ophthalmologist?

Problem is that I don't have any time to work on this .. any volunteers that know how HTML/CSS/colors work and are willing to help?

Maybe I could create a new forum theme template for dark mode and update it iteratively based on community feedback

How do I install this Dark Reader extension on my iPad?

I don't always read TPU on a computer. Surfing the Internet on an iPad is much better at the pool, in bed, coffee shops, airport terminals, even on the couch.

Not sure about iOS, but on android IIRC the 'normal' chromewebstore works for any chromium-based browser.

All iOS/iPadOS browsers use Webkit as the functional underlying engine. Even Chrome on iPadOS is just WebKit with a skin that Google applies to make it look more Chrome-y. Apple imposed this restriction since the very first iPhone in 2007. Nothing new.

Web browser developers on iOS/iPadOS can add additional functionality to differentiate their offerings from Safari but they cannot use their own engine (yet).

Webkit browsers cannot use extensions from the Chrome Web Store.

Maybe the EU's recent legislative push have moved the that region closer to a moment where third-party browsers (with their own engines) can be used on Apple's iDevices, that isn't a reality yet, especially in the USA.

#000000.

Personally I think only weak people use dark mode. Weaklings and perverts.

In a year or two AI will be able to write this code for you (if it can't already).

:):p:D

This again?....

No thanks, it's good as is now.

No. It's mental disorders who force bright modes:
• Brighter displays consume more energy than darker ones.
• Brighter displays require more ambient lighting than darker ones, meaning you have your lights brighter indoors, meaning you spend more earth's resources.
• Leaving your clientelle no option is by definition a malicious doing.

Also all these extensions and plug-ins are just dirty hacks. Every reasonable person doesn't feast on dirty hacks if possible. You smashing OP with "just enable Dark Reader" are not helping them. It's plain toxicity.

Hope I could help W1zz to make it work. Unfortunately, I dunno how to code.

Just use a simple browser extension to enable.

I will say I've been blasted by the flood of white on my Apple devices.
