Intel late Thursday, through a product change notification, announced the discontinuation of almost its entire 7th generation Core "Kaby Lake" desktop processor series. This includes most chips across the Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, Pentium, and Celeron desktop chips based on the 14 nm+ "Kaby Lake-S" silicon, across both retail boxed and tray packages. These chips formed Intel's main product lineup through 2017, and had to be quickly succeeded by the 8th generation "Coffee Lake" with the advent of AMD Ryzen. To clear out its inventory, Intel will accept discontinuance orders for these chips until April 2020. A discontinuance order can only be placed by a customer who has previously ordered these exact chips. The last of these orders will be shipped out by October 2020.

hmm does that mean i can finnaly get used 7th gen for a great deal, i hope it so:)

Wait a sec, Intel was still producing Baby Lake till now? :D

EOL'ed so soon!!!

There still making 7th Gen? :ohwell:

end of the line for the 7700k then, but its getting a bit long in tooth with plenty of 6 and 8 cores on the market now. I still love mine . thanks for the heads up.

for you is end, as for me is new line, i will wait patiently for a cheap deal, maybe after 4years later:p

my 7700k was cheap well free my son in law upgraded to a 9900k and gave me his old cpu it was only a year old but he needed more cores for processing, I thought "what gos around comes around and how i should never look a gift horse in the mouth" and said thank you :) at the time id bin using a fx8350 to run my telescope rig so the 7700k was a good leap forward. hope you get your chosen cpu soon.

well it still on $200+ for the used i7700k at here, so yeah, hope it drop soon:)

You should have seen how long they shipped P4 s my company got rid of embedded P4s a couple of years ago only.

Thats just shameful honestly lol P4 where dead on arrival pretty much, like the 7th gen.

What a nightmare those were. We STILL hav epentium 4 based pentim Ds hanging around, talk about stupid slow......

AMD was so much better at that time. Good ol athlon 64.

when they have comet lake with hardware fix for vulnerabilities why keep making any of the old gens. Besides 8 thread cpus have to be rebranded as celeron now the same way as old i3 q1/11 were made into g4560 q1/17 skus. It is that time for some 8 thread celerons to appear at 64$.

I can only dream about having an 8 core celeron in a NAS

I got my BNIB 7700K for as much as a used one a year or two ago. Made in Vietnam was new for me and Intel cpus.

I dragged my DDR3 with me from my FX series, so it was much cheaper than getting a DDR4 and Ryzen.

Yes, this is normal, they also recently announced the same for the 6th generation. Intel have along-lasting supply deals to OEMs, which typically provide models for two years or more, and also need replacement parts throughout their warranty periods, which is why Intel typically supply these CPUs for 4-5 years. This doesn't mean they keep making them necessary though, but probably having a decent stockpile of older models.

But this is still not nearly as funny as the old 80386 CPUs etc., where "production" stopped in 2007!
And in case you wonder why on earth they would continue shipping these, I'll give you a hint: embedded stuff.

Aren't the original pentium series still being used in space? Aka the last good CPUs they made lol

Quite possible. I do know that 486 were extensively used for satellites.
But the reason why x86 CPUs are rarely used for these kinds of applications any more is the need for low-power devices, not anything to do with quality ;)

No. Most space cpus are radiation hardened super slow MIPS.

Once true, but they moved to RISC like a decade ago.

I wonder if this means that Cyberlink will finally implement some reasonable requirements in PowerDVD for 4K UHD Blu-ray playback on PC? Kaby Lake was required for that and has been the primary reason I have not bought it.

You crippled that chip horrifically by doing that...

Went from a FX-8320e to my 7700K, and it performs significantly better and pulls less juice.

About the ram...

It is stock 1.5V 1866 CL9 DDR3 that does 2100 CL10 with 1.55V and it benches within the noise of a 7700K with DDR4 2400. If it was shackled to 1333 or 1600, it would be definitely handicapped by the 3. I may not get the raw bandwidth but I have better latency, so it's a bit of a trade off. It does absolutely crush my 4790 and it's 1333 JEDEC spec DDR3 in benches, so if I paired it with that then yes. I wish I had some of that volt hungry DDR3 2400 CL11 like my friend. That's some fast ram, but I'd need a better board, as mine doesn't like going past 2200.

Also low latency DDR4 still ain't cheap. If I went DDR4 I'd have to upgrade from the 32GB I have now, to 64GB, because why side-grade?
