Hi,
Don't really know if I should get 6970 or a GTX460 2gb. Tried to find side by side benchmarks but couldn't. So which one would be the best bang for the buck. Also will the 2gb memory difference be drastically different from the 1gb variant of the GTX 460? Although I can play on high settings on my computer, the details take a while to appear, if you know what I mean, so my question is will the 2gb memory improve this?

Thanks

6970 will beat the GTX 460 even with the 2GB. (Do they make a GTX 460 2gb????).

True, though I would get the 460 over the 6970 but only if it was much cheaper. If the price is even close to being close... Definitely go with the 6970, no question about it.

Would you consider $150 for the 2gb GTX460 a good price or a 6970 for $200 a better price? Also what does the memory difference actually do? Improve anything?

Thanks

What is your price range? There are also 570's that are almost below the 200$ range used. 580's can be had a lot cheaper than they were a couple of weeks ago due to the release of the 680

Honestly, no. I have seen the regular GTX 460 go for around 80-90$ used but the 6970 (If it is the 2GB version) is a good deal for 200$ ATM

My price range is not scaled, but I would like to get the cheapest price possible for either cards. The reason for I want to upgrade is because the detailed graphics seem to only start to appear when I walk closer to the object. Will buying a higher end card or higher memory card improve this. Isn't the 570 and 580 only 1.5GB memory? Thats worse than the 6970 2gb right?

So I should wait a couple of weeks to get an even lower price for these cards?

Go the 6970. The gpu power will suit the 2gb better. 2gb on the 460 aint gona help it much. To answer your question, the more ram on a gpu the better fps u will get at higher resolutions. It all depends how powerful the gpu is as to use that memory too.

Memory does not have alot to do with the speed of each of the cards. Just take a look at this graph that is from w1z GTX 680 review. I am assuming this resolution is close to what you are aiming for in a card.

As you can see the 570 does beat the 6970 2gb in this review

Actually my max resolution is 1024x 10xx(don't remember) but one day I might upgrade the screen to 1080p.

Thanks for the benchmark.

In this case go for 6970.

Right now, used cards such as GTX 480, HD6950/6970 GTX 560Ti, GTX 570 and more will be selling quick cause of newer AMD and Nvidia cards. Search our FS threads along with Hardforums and Anandtech

You will def catch a deal on someone that is ITCHING to get their hands on a 680 :)

I've been doing that, but I'm such a cheap bastard. Even at the low price they are selling for I am trying to lower it even more because of my budget.:D

Which is understandable. Some people will work with you if they need to get rid of it badly enough.

Hopefully, but I've been turned down quite too often today. But thanks anyways.

Oh, and one more question, I take that if I upgrade my current GPU, it will solve the detailed graphic I am having right now.

Well basically I play BF3 and when I walk towards something, the detailed graphics only start to appear when I walk closer or at that direction.
Do you know what's wrong?

Thanks

HMM have you tried a full format with a fresh reinstall?

Hmmm It may help. I honestly do not know for sure.

Well thanks for trying to help though. I will see if I could find another GPU and see if it will fix this problem.

Thanks

Paulie has a nice 6970 2GB for sale, he may can work with you if its not sold.

Amd/ati... it is a distance thing. I have it also, the nivida guys seem to make the concrete barriers appear sooner. Also know a5770 will play on low and very little of those barriers appear.
As for memory on the card it relates to anti lasing and such when running on high resolution.
