3tb internal storage windows 10

I am having some drama with the new Windows 1607 update NOT recognizing my external drives. Searching around online, this seems to be a big problem. I have all my personal photos, files, etc on these drives. I would like to back them all up. First I thought I lost everrything after the update.

I would like to add a big storage drive to my new to me pc, (6700k, gigabyte z170 d3h mobo, kingston32gb ddr4, m.2 boot drive, 240gb crucial as storage(came with pc).

I have read that windows doesnt like drives over 2tb. Is this still the case with windows 10? I just want to use it as storage

I was looking at the wd 2tb green/blue? 5400. Think the blue and the green are the same now??

Windows hasn't had an issue with drives in a long time. This is a raid 5 array of 4, 3TB HDD's and windows 7 has had zero issues with it. I also never recommend WD blue/green get the HGST 3TB with a 64MB cache.

Make sure the drive is setup for GPT partitions and not MBR for 2+ TB drives and you'll be fine. I use GPT for all drives anymore.

There were some issues with USB drives on Anniversary Update using FAT32. Not sure how far that goes and to what capacities (which are not achievable with FAT32 anyway).
