Thanks for all the details learned a lot from you all on here.

Yes its 2021, and I am just upgrading to this card, trying to get some more milage out of my old system. Got one of those large 50in sceptre curved gaming monitors, so i need the 5120+ resolution.

asus M5A87 mobo
AMD Phenom II x6 1100T
psu seasonic s1211

Had a sapphire R7 370 4gb, so bought a used sapphire rx5500 xt 8gb Nitro+, but same as @ratirt getting black screen after bios.

I did fresh install of windows bcz i didnt' care bcz i just did it with a new ssd a short while ago. So i fresh installed my old gpu. THen went into safe mode and ran DDU like all say, shut down to install new card. And same thing that happened before i refreshed everything, after bios, its just black screen. Nothing loads, can't even get the windows usb boot to run (runs fine with old gpu).

My question is about the pci-e and psu mainly. Its the 6 pin with the little 2 pin adapter. is that good enough to power this gpu which says 8 pin pci-e?

Is it causing the card to shut down bcz it isn't getting something its expecting? Trying to udnerstand if a simple psu upgrade will solve it?

The psu is 530w but is 10 years old. I tested the pci-e cable, and the 3 yellow wires put out 12.15v each. The 2 pring adapter has 2 black wires(grounds).

Checked so much stuff, updated bios build to latest possible lol 2013. Loaded defaults and refreshed my windows on a new WD ssd.

also, Upgraded ram from corsair 8gb xms3, to 16gb Nemix. Tried ram with both old and new card, worked fine with old.

Idk what to do, guess i'm just gona try another card and return/sell this one.

Yeah, the mb is from around 2009-10. Its old. Has run fine for years, but asus last firmware update was from 2013. Dont think I see anything later than that.

Idk im thinking I might just get a pre-built gaming rig. Nzxt.com has some decent ones. Any sites you'd recommend?

No, the psu is good, just pull the motherboard, ram, cpu out and swap to a Ryzen.

Ok thanks, maybe I'll try one of these, not so bad they have them around $300-400. Looks ok, right?

Thanks @eidairaman1 upgraded all of this and now the radeon 5500xt gpu works. Old system must've been too old for it

Let's just say this Asus really did not show a whole lot of support for your particular motherboard whereas they showed a lot of support for the 990fx sabertooth series.
