Nvidia has told partners at a recent conference in Amsterdam that it won't be dropping its prices on 7800 series boards before Christmas.

It also told them to expect a 7800 'Ultra' with 512MB, very soon.

The Inquirer reports that the man in charge of GPU sales at Nvidia, Roy Taylor, gave a presentation in which he mentioned he doesn't consider ATI to be competition. Yet.

Not really. They had to something about ATi being better in many respects. Also it was rather unsubtle that they reserved the Ultra's name and called the top card a GTX.

The card will most likely remain as a GTX. nVidia has said there will be no Ultra, so they will most likely stay the course and not upset any past, present or future customers. These new cards are a rev change, similar to core changes onthe AMD chips. There will be two spec changes coming around. The core will be 90 nm and the memory 1.2 ns GDDR3 at 1400 Mhz. First at new spec, the 512 MB cards to transition the top end, followed by 256 MB cards after in channel supplies get depleted.
