Hi guys - Ive not asked this question before but.....

My 8800GTS (512) runs much faster & also quite happily i might add, then a stock 9800GTX+ My clocks are:

Core - 770Mhz
Shader -1925mhz
Memory - 1110Mhz

do you think its possible to flash my card to a 9800GTX+ so i can buy another 9800GTX+ for SLi or am i wasting my time even thinking about it????

I don't know for definate but they are both G92 Cores, Same Vram, same everything really but the GTX+ has a smaller core so you might have to go with a normal GTX but I think it might work.

thanks but you still sound really unsure lol :P I dont think i want to risk messing up my card just yet :P

I am unsure :p I've never flashed a card. I was just giving you a little tiny bit of hope :) but In my other post I added a link to someone trying to flash it and it failed.

yeah that guy tried a 'reverse' flash by the looks of it - a 9800GTX into a 8800GTS which i cant understand why lol

Me neither

I don't see why it wouldn't work but that means the 8800GT could be flashed to a 9800GT if you can.

wont work there is a different logic on the GTX which includes the 2nd SLI connector

well unless more people starts saying that its possible I think I will leave it for now ;)

why dont u just find another 8800gts in ebay???

i think thats your best bet, they are cheap now. and sell your 9800gtx and use that money for that.

thats a great overclock for a gts 512, btw. i couldnt get mine past 756/1869/1053, even with an aftermsarket cooler and copper ramsinks. and mine was an overclocked edition too.

I was able to get mine to do 770, my memory clocks wouldnt go beyond 1020 before having a bsod in game.

mines pretty good check my sys specs for clocks

It seems very unlikely. Although the graphics cores are essentially the same, there is some new power management circuitry integrated into the 9800's, and it stands to reason that the new BIOS expects such circuitry to be present. Lacking such circuitry the results could be...undefined. Which is really really bad when you're talking about hardware.

I remeber something about Asus was taking 8800GTS 512's at one point and supposedly flashing them to 112SP(iirc) 9800GT's, and calling it the ultimate edition. I wouldn't really see a reason to try and flash to a 9800GT or GTX as it won't do anything beneficial beyond ID if it worked successfully. The 8800GTS 512 is still a damn fine card, changing it's ID in GPU-z and from drivers probably won't prolong it's life in the long run of things anyways, just enjoy the card till it's time to upgrade.

yea, you are on water so i'm not surprised. for some reason water helps a lot with video cards. still a great overclock though. are you watercooling the memory as well?

mines on stock air

amazing mem overclock for stock air cooling :rockout: i couldnt get mine past 1053 with copper ramsinks on em, lol. may be your card has different mem chips or just better chips?

well i Dont suppose that anyone else knows a way of how to 'hack' or softmod a 8800GTS to be reconised as a 9800GTX/GTX+ ???

9800GTX+ is a OCed version of 8800GTS G92. So just buy urself another 8800 GTS to SLI.

Hi guys

The 8800GTS can be crossflashed into an 9800GT, not GTX, but they benchark best as 8800GTS, maybe that's why the guy was trying the bios downgrade.

Anyway I leave here my modded ASUS 9800GT Ultra to work with ASUS iTracker (OC program from ASUS for MATRIX series). That one can be flashed in one 8800GTS.

Default speeds: 725/1000/1750 (core/mem/shaders)

Before flashing, make sure that your graphics support the clocks.

well thanks for the bios but I dont think im gonna use it as the 9800GT only has 112SSPs & my 8800GTS has 128SSPs - though it would make it easir for me to get another card for SLi

Have no impact on shaders, it will remain at same.

Edit: I tested my self on an Zotac 8800GTS 512

Does that mean that the other 9800GT's have unlockable shaders?? or would it be better just to buy 2x9800GT's????

What it means is, if you have an 8800GTS with 128 Shaders it remain at 128 no matter what bios you manage to flash, does not lock or unlock shaders.

There is no point in buying 2 9800GTs, since you already have one 8800GTS, if you buy one ASUS 9800GT Ultimate you can have SLI with both 128 shaders, if you buy a normal 9800GT you get the SLI as if you have 2 normal 9800GTs, meaning using 112 shaders each.
