trust me mate, your PC is more than powerful enough for vista and 7. your systems faster than my media PC in every way, and its never choked at anything. (except gaming, but its onboard ffs )

See, I totally disagree with that.

I now have VIsta 64 running on my machine and I get more system freezes, more regular occurences of programs not responding, more crashes to desktop from the games I like to play, and my system runs slower than it ever did with XP. I have had it suggested to me that this happens cos I an a n00b and cant tweak my OS properly etc etc.......But I shouldnt have to.

Whilst I do prefer the way that Vista is laid out compared to XP I wouldn't in any way shape or form recommend Vista over XP to anyone, especially someone without a fairly beefed up PC.

I cant see where you are getting that conclusion from.

Every single PC that I have ever known/used has been prone to system freezes/lock ups, crashes every now and then.

Work PC's
Friend's PC's
University PCs

and of course,

I agree with Mussels, you started with an unstable system, moved to an OS that uses more resources (and believe me they are used in a much better way) and continue to blame either OS.

Also your little tag at the end of every message berating the X-Fi just goes to prove even more your system is unstable. I've never seen anyone 'spend hours' on audio errors, I myself have spent ZERO.

As for X-Fi, the popping sound issues in many games are very well documented and it seems that Creative have resigned themselves to never fixing it stating the PCI technology on newer faster mobo's to be the blame. However, Creatives new PCI-E X-Fi cards will totally solve the problem I hear.........Also, not giving this crappy company any more of your moeny will also solve a lot of sound related problems.....or so they say.

With my current rig, the only comparison I have is with my XP64 installation which was a lot faster and more stable than my Vista experience has been and of course under DX9 conditions, you get better game performance with XP as well.

At work, we have Vista 64bit business edition running on single core pentium 4's @2.8gig with just 1GB ram running smooth and fine, yes i agree I would personally want a lot more power for my personal rig but it's surprising what you can get away with on Vista.

I've had to run Vista on customers machines that use a P4, Vista runs like turd. If you absolutely have to use that abdomination of programming called Vista you deffinately need at least a Dual core with 2GB RAM.

vista runs fine on my friends pc
PIV 3ghz, 2gb ram...

its usually all the stupid tweaks people do, that make it run worse.

i give you an exception. i ALWAYS turn that off. the CPU and ram usage meter is a joke, as it uses 10-20% of my CPU just to show me how much CPU its now using.

Vista is crap, we all know that. Probably the only reason it got adopted by some is where they were hoping for some real DX10 games not stuff bolted on. Vista needs to die, W7 can't come soon enough.

Are there really any problems or assumed so. Second, I never understood why the CCC is updated every month. I think nvidia upgrades every so often. Having to upgrade every month is a hassle, especially when I'm not in school and can't get access to internet.

ATI release driver updates every month, but that doesnt mean you have to update if you arent having problems.

I like to stay up to date, because I notice a huge hit when going back. For the facts that most of the games I have received performance boost with every version, I feel like I need to upgrade every time.
