Oh I hate myself, the VGA cover installed too firm, trying so hard to not break the VGA into 2 pieces +_+

Yep, when I turn on ATitool, the fan DID work and it's show that the speed is 80%.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE UPPER COVER?? THE UPPER WHEN YOU HOLD IT IN YOUR HAND AND TURN DOWN WHEN INSERTED INTO THE MAINBOARD.

Ok the two covers has been removed and the temp quite OK (51* at idle, 80 and 77*C full load) But the performance still the same. Any suggestions?

I'm downloading the 191.00 Beta now, hope it could make some differences. Btw, is the any other sign to know any core is still working good or not, except using ATItool, GPUtool?

subscribed as I'm very curious to find out what the issue is.

I vouch for driver issue, can't think of anything else. Unless card is bad.

If the new drivers or reinstall of drivers doesn't fix it why don't you try to disable one core and run 3dmark. I got like 17k in 3dmark on one core. You should get slightly below that as I have an i7 which will yield better scores. If you get something like 8k or something really low for one core then i think the whole card must be fucked or something.

New Driver and nothing change. I tried to disable one core and the performance still the same, you know, as I said.
I can't find any clue that one of two cores is bad, how to do a proper test for both of the two cores?

that beats me man. I really hope you can figure out what is wrong, good luck.

So quick rundown.

1- Drivers cleaned/re installed
2- not overheating anymore

Correct?

Yes, everything is fine, at least as I see now.
PS: Is it Normal that two GPU of this X2 using two different BIOS version? 62.92.39.00.9 + 62.92.39.00.10, or it's just my misunderstanding?

The 09 Bios GPU show no fan info, just the one with .10 bios show alot of details. Is that normal.
(The 09 still show Clock and Temp as normal)

As solaris was saying with your GPU-z shot that you are on the 09 bios side, if you were to read the 10 bios side the fan #s may show up. At least thats how I read it.

Ok you guys, the Wizard named Forceware 191.00 beta did his magic, 10955 GPU score in Vantage seem ok with 98gx2 at stock clock! I threw away the 06 one, may be it just no recognized the SLI is enabled.
Try some games now, hope everything will be ok from now on :D
(I have to say in Vantage, the minimum FPS of this 98GX2 always x2 faster than my MSI 4850 max OC :D the way it's meant to be played, right :D)
Update: Well, seem like I'm gonna to reinstall every game in my PC. The Stalker Clear Sky give the same FPS when with 4850, and it's so strange that the DX10.1 option is still available for a NVIDIA CARD. Gosh!

Hey everybody, I've spent the whole day to figure out what's happening to my GX2. I ran the 3dmark 06 again, and see some strange sign: The performance during the test was go up and down, don't know how to describe, it looks like the programe just use SLI in a short time, then go back with single GPU, and SLI, and single...the final score is 14487. I think it's below "normal" a little bit. So, I have only one Question now: Anyone who's using 98Gx2, please let me know what driver you're using for you GPU? Please help me by answering this question, thanks!

when I had my GX2(one of the one's solaris17 is running), my system scored around 15k on 3dmark06. That was with a c2d e8400, 4 gigs ddr2 800 ram, and the gx2 running on 174.74 drivers.

Hey, sorry to hear about all these gliches, chickennoob.

I used to have a Leadtek 9800 GX2 and it worked fine with 7 64-bit in RC & RTM form. It was a fantastic card and could beat my GTX 285 in some cases. I kinda regret selling it now, to tell the truth.

It's not clear to me where the problem lies, but you might want to check some things:

- Are you sure that SLI is enabled in the driver? Check that it's enabled and staying enabled. Your card is performing like it has only one GPU, right?
- Make sure SLI mode is set to nvidia default
- The fan & temperature don't seem quite right. If the card is overheating, then it's quite likely that the hardware temperature protection will throttle down a core without any warning. The fan may be spinning, but can you feel air being blown out the back and is it warm?
- I would try to do Solaris17's suggestions to the letter; he's very knowledgeable
- Could you have malware on your system that's messing around with the card somehow? Not very likely I know, but cannot discount it, as I haven't seen how your system is set up for security eg hardware firewall, security patches, a/v installed etc etc

And finally, if you can, I strongly recommend at this stage that you get another hard disc and install the same OS on it, then patch it, install the video driver and your games/benchmark software and see how it runs. It could simply be that your current Windows installation is now FKD. Comparing with a fresh one will allow you to determine this absolutely and get a baseline on this.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

BTW I really like your cat pic. :D

It's impressing, nice Score :D the driver kind of old, is it compatible well with "New" things?

I've just replaced my Windows seven x64 with Windows Vista x86, yep, it's a mistake. The x86 just recognizes 3G of my memory, wonder if it could affect to the final score  going to do some tweak, benching and testing before go back with seven. As I can see now, the Vista x86 much slower and take alot of my hardware resources than the seven one. Seem like another revert to Seven will fix thing up.
By the way, the problem I have been facing the whole day was just because the program recognize my new GPU as the old one, that's why it didn't mind the attendance of another twin one :D only Vantage is smart enough to realize that "Big difference", even Stalker Clear Sky still think 98GX2 was the HD4850, so ridiculous. Well, I have to say MY PROBLEM (SEEM LIKE) HAS BEEN FIXED and it's because of all you guy supporting, thanks a lot. Reinstall Seven soon and I'll see the final Result.
PS: Sorry for my very very bad English, trying to improve it
BTW I really like your cat pic. :D
Thanks, I'm a cat enthusiast :D

I didn't realise they were that slow.

In normal gameplay, it won't really hinder him(though I would push for 3.0GHz just to be safe).

However, in 3DMark06, which seems to be the only thing that has been tested, it will definitely lower the score.

When I had my Q6600@3.2GHz, my 3Dmark06 score with two 9800GTXs(similar performance to the 9800GX2) was ~13,000 default test. If I maxed out the resolution, and IQ options, it still scored the same score. If I pushed the Q6600 to 3.6GHz, my score jumped to ~16,000, but the Q wasn't stable.

The Q8200 clock for clock is weaker than the Q6600, due to the lower amount of cache(this is partially made up for by the higher FSB though). However, it is also very hard to overclock, due to the extremely low multiplier.

As I said, 3DMark06 really shows the problem, but normal games should not. I say play some games and see how the 9800GX2 handles it. I bet games like Crysis really show a difference when you enable/disable SLi with the card.

Yep, I know. This Q8200 is so bad, but don't have money to change it at the moment :D
I think Stalker Clear Sky recognized the 9800GX2 perfectly.
But Crysis Warhead, well, don't think the 9800GX2 performs it better than my old HD4850, may be the Q8200 is holding 9800GX2 back. Any way, just tested those two and planning to reinstall Windows 7 asap. I don't think I can suffer the Vista anymore, terrible performance.

Did you get the latest drivers from Nvidia ?

To me it sounds like a driver is still in your system

bunch of lame BS to me. I havent done that. . . Ever, and have never had a driver issue from it, or any driver issues in my entire past in video cards. Maybe deleting those drivers are causing your issues? jk
