In steam store it say under system requirements:
OS: Windows XP/Vista
Processor: 3.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
Memory: 1 GB System RAM (XP)/ 2 GB System RAM (Vista)
Graphics: DirectX 9.0c compliant video card with 128 MB RAM (NVIDIA 7900 or better, ATI X1800 or better)
Hard Drive: 16 GB free hard drive space
DirectX®: DirectX 9.0c

My cpu (Dual Core) is only 2.13. Is it possible for me to play the game, I mean without it being to "choppy"?

I do not wish to OC the cpu since it runs with stock cooling, and I just can't afford a better one at the moment.

it's not your CPU I'm worried about, but your GPU...

9500gt ? is that it , you will need to get something like a 9600gt or ati 4670 at least . the game is not to demanding but i dont think your gpu is enough. looks like you got scamed into buying a 9500gt 1gb [like i did with 8500gt1gb:laugh:] useless ram for anything on that card.

tech the question is , it might be playable but enjoyable at the settings youll have to play at, i would honestly upgrade my gpu before playing that.

Well the system came with a 7600GT with 256Mb DDR3 ram.. But can't I just overclock the card? Or is it something else?? I can't afford a new card at the moment.. But then, if it's that - I'll wait with the game aswell.

Also, I always set graphics down. I'm more for the feeling of the game not all the eyecandy, would not mind it, but still..

What card can you recommend? I don't want anything "overkill" for like 900$. Already had that for a couple of months, more power than I could ever have use of..

Howabout the 5570? Can get one for like 90$ (900 SEK, live in sweden), or a GT220 for like 70$?

I don't have much cash anymore, just payed the dentist a bill around 1400€..

EDIT: I managed to play Supreme Commander 2 without doing anything more than just OC the card. But true, can't say anything else - a better card would be better in the long run.

ugh that sux technical the 5000 series from ati is pretty good, honeslt the old 4000 series cards could run that game just fine, like the second post a 4670, could possible get one for kinda cheap you could always buy it and see if you can play, i cant tell i dont have any exsperience with that card, goodluck

You should be able to run it atleast on medium. One of my buds is running AVP on high on a 9600GT. But without dx11 ( duhhh :p)

Just my two pence worth, but that CPU will do 3.2 easily on stock (air) cooling.

Running mine 3.3 24/7 no problem.

you shouldnt have problems with your gpu . that cpu is bottlenecking it.

This is true, but at least i can play it maxed out on a 5yr old system :D

Thanks everyone. I think I can play the game aswell, I'm mostly getting it because the old AvP series runs bad on one of my friends system (we all LAN a lot), so he decided that all of us should get it. The game I will get as a gift.

Like I said earlier, when I play, I mostly go after the feeling of the game.. Must be the reason CS:S is almost forgotten by me.

Sell your 9500 GT, those things are a joke even for old games.

With the money obtain a cheap 4850/5750/5670/9800GTX+/GTS250 from eBay for $50-60 and you'll be fine for gaming.

Thanks, but eBay is nono for me. Have had some real bad experience from that.. I'll look around our own buy/and sell ads here in sweden.

Think I need a better PSU with those cards, btw?

EDIT:
Just found 2:nd hand: ATI 4850 2x for 70€, a 9800GTX(Gainward) but for 120€ and a GTS250 for 80€. Which one is most price worthy?
Also - is it the memory on the graphics card (mine) that's the bad part of it? GDDR2 whilst everyone else is either running GDD3 or GDDR5.

Thankful for any replies given.

4850 is best card of the ones you mentioned. AvP needs a reasonable amount of horsepower or it can lag a little bit.

Your GPU and CPU will run the game just fine. Just not with high settings.

The developers wouldn't stop the game from running with a 9600M GT (equal to your 9500GT), which is present in 80% of the "gaming notebooks" sold between 2007 and 2008.

.

Well ebay is safe if you but from shops. Personally speaking, I never had problems with em. Its particulars which you have to worry about. Some just whack em cards then pass em to you. Thats what you need to worry about.

About the cards you mentionned, the 4850 seems a good deal. The gts250 also looks like a good deal. Forget the 9800gtx though, too pricey compared to the gts (about on par perf-wise) They'll all trump your 9500 easily.

Its my 1000th post, I really hope it helps you! Symbolic, really! lol

Your PSU is fine, well its not great brand wise and reliability wise but it will be powerful enough to cope with the above mentioned cards. These cards are low-midrange so it doesn’t take a beefy PSU at all.

Did you mean 4850x2 ? if so that card would be almost twice as fast as the other cards in that list and I would recommend that, otherwise the GTS 250 and 4850 are the best deals.

Performance wise,

4850 X2 > GTS 250 1GB > GTS 250 512MB = 4850 = 9800GTX+ > 9800GTX

Also - is it the memory on the graphics card (mine) that's the bad part of it? GDDR2 whilst everyone else is either running GDD3 or GDDR5.

It has nothing to do with the video memory. Video memory makes a very small difference with GPU performance, remember the video card can borrow memory from the main system memory so it will never run out. The GPU memory is quicker but in most cases makes little difference unless you are playing at super high resolutions like 1920x1080 and above and people playing at super high resolutions wouldn’t be buying a low end 9500 GT to begin with.

Its the architecture that makes the 9500 GT a poor performer, its memory bandwidth (not size) and shader count is just too low to push any data, DDR4 or DDR5 would allow more throughput over DDR3 it wouldnt be enough bandwidth to compensate for the already crippled 9500 GT architecture. You should really look at reviews before making video card choices.

Thanks everyone, congrats to the 1000:th post assaulter 99.
@ Dent1, yes, sorry it's should have been 4850x2.
Is the price fair, or is it too high for the card (2nd hand card)?

Out of the cards you listed, the 4850X2 is the cheapest and its almost twice as fast as the others, I would say that its a more than fair price, a huge upgrade from your 9500 GT, you'd be stepping into the realm of "can not play games" to "do not have to read the specification to run a game".

The only downside, your processor is a bit of a bottleneck sitting at stock, I would advise that you look into overclocking it, but either way I would jump on the 4850X2.

Edit:

Here is a review of the 4850X2 in comparison to your current 9500 GT:

This game is unplayable with 2GB memory and pagefile , if you have 4 GB memory disable pagefile and it will run smoothly.

4850x2 !!!! :eek::eek: Dude get it !!!

I run AVP 2 maxed out with my little lappy.

9500GT should be able to get about 40fps at medium-high on 720p resolution.
