Am I the only one who thinks Eyefinity is stupid

3 monitors in front of me for bad company 2 would be nice. However usually I have a second monitor to my left for watching video's while i pwn.

6 monitors is rediculous unless you have a need for it. I've seen what 3x2 setup is like and FPS you can't see the crosshair properly which ruins it. Now what we need is frameless monitors for that to make sense and since they dont exist then it is rediculous.

How do you game fullscreen and watch videos on the second monitor? I need to know!

I also think that bezel-less monitors would be something for an LCD company to start providing.. now that would be sweet.
 
I like the idea, but for now it doesn't really work. Not 3x2 anyway. But as the guy behind it said, it's a step towards surround gaming.
 
Dual 3X1 setups would be awesome. 5X1 in portrait would be awesomer. :D
 
I have no interest in it. I can't get past the frames in a multiple monitor setup. Hell, I freak out from having a speck on my screen, let alone a frame in the way of the big picture.
 
Ok what if instead of removing the bezels, they made them transparent? Wouldn't that be an easier short term solution? And tbh the real potential will be in 5x1 Portrait mode, hello Holodeck ;)

A few years ago I had my hands on a few LCDs from some broken slot machines. 21' of pure bliss - no bezell, no nothing...Of course the no bezel part meant no monitor stand and because of that I had to support them with books and boxes...I think I still have one left somewhere in the attic...
 
My HP monitor has DisplayPort, as do a bunch of Dells. Other makers, too. There are plenty of them on the market.
Adaptation is very slow. DVI is still the defacto standard and DisplayPort has zero compatibility with DVI which just makes matters more complicated. I'm not saying there aren't DisplayPort products on the market because their obviously are but, for example, at Newegg, there are 159 monitors with at least one DVI port and only one that has DisplayPort. Talk about massively limited selection. Why did AMD/ATI not put mini-DVI ports on those cards instead of DisplayPort? It makes no sense, no sense at all.
 
HalfAHertz. The idea with the transparent bezels is fabulous! I only wish they actually did something like that.
 
3 monitors are perfect for gaming. 6 monitors are perfect for presentations, surveillance camera mode, CAD Design, Software developing, etc
 
actually 3x1 eyefinity is pretty badass with proper monitors 3x2 however is retarded

ive seen a few ppl make super tiny bezel mods for it as well

I agree with you man,6 displays is just excessive, figure you use the money for something more rewarding.
 
Eye-infinity = Modeling and business user only. Useless for gaming people ~ FACT!

You sure its a fact? Have you ever tried Eyefinity? Have you played a game on 3x 1080p screens together? If you havent. Try it out. If you have and you think its fact that its useless, your totally wrong. Because its like one of the most mind blowing things i've come across in a long time! :cool:
 
I would rather buy 1 badass monitor for the cost of 6 22'' screens.

The problem is your thinking of 6 monitors. I would never want to game on 6, that gives you a bezel line right down the horizontal center of your view. You never want a bezel dead center on your view, thats why eyefinity is 3 and not 2. If I would run it I would run 3 and I'm sure I would love it, 6 I would never like because of the bezels, and if I was running 3, I would want 24". Maybe with the clear bezels they mention above it might be fine to run 6, but I'd still be wary of it.

As many ppl here have pointed out ... 3x2 monitor setup isn't great for gaming at all .... moreover one can play games only @ low settings with a resolution that high ...but 3x1 monitor setup is just awesome ... and a 5870 2GB card will be able to handle almost all games at medium settings in 3x1...

heres a video review on a 3x2 eyefinity setup .... doesn't look good at all for gaming ...

When the host of a tv show over here went to S. Korea, she went to LG and they've shown her one of those. They also shown how ridiculously thin it was. :)
 
its not stupid for professionals in my opinion or buisness, but gaming all i want is a super sharp lcd witch is yet to come how long has it been ? pixel width isnt changing and thats what i want for gaming 24" 2600 x 1600 or something in them lines. why cant lcds catch up with them old crts 19" with 1920x 1200? ( mite not be exact) but who wants a big clunky crt on there desk.

Erm I just connect the monitor up, set it as secondary and use wmp but I have plugins that inadvertantly let me do it. Try downloading the k-lite audio pack and see if that helps.
 
Well, if you reread the OP, he did say the 6 monitor setup was stupid. I agree with him there. Completely pointless for gaming.

Sorry. Should have been clearer. I was talking in generality, not about the OP. I have just seen too many people dis the technology when they admit they've never actually tried it.

that's actually not true. it sucks at 2, but it is still eyefinity. I questioned this after a few responses in other posts but after reading up on atis docs , 2 monitor spread is still eyefinity. it's just not useful for gaming at all...

eyefinity is specifically the technology that allows you to span your desktop across multiple monitors (2-6 with one card) AND select that custom resolution in programs that require resolution settings, such as games.

what makes it good for business is that it allows 3-6 monitors to be driven off of one GPU, while it is possibe without it to have a multimonitor setup, to have them properly extended and running off the smallest number of GPUs possible, eyefinity is where it's at.
 
Overkill hype. I'd rather buy a new badass gigant monitor than game with 2 or 3 displays with dead spaces in between! Eyefinity is for very particular uses....

ability to curve the display for peripheral vision.
ability to have more pixels than possible with a single display
lcds/plasma can only get so big. to play on a 300" wide screen, some multimonitor technology is necessary, eyefinity does the job cheaper.

granted as you said, not meant for gaming - but gaming can be amazing on it.

seriously guys, don't knock it until you have sat in front of 3x identical 1080p monitors all being used to play a game. it is simply awesome.

Yeah, i agree. Im sure if there was a competition to win 3 HQ 1080p monitors with a good 5xxx series card for Eyefinity. Most of the people in here will fight and kill over it lmao :roll: :nutkick:

I don't get why you would "hate" this technology? It's virtually a freebie and it has many uses.

Yeah obviously most of us would never use 6 monitors. But like a few have said there are people who need more than 3 monitors. I've sold a few machines for stock junkies and they all wanted 4 monitors. This meant 2 video cards and even then you had less control over how the worked. For those rare few who would have in the past had to run either more video cards or expensive Matrox boxes to split a higher resolution across many monitors know that it's not just cheaper, but it give you more control over your screens! The Matrox boxes never knew where one screen ends and another begins. Nothing would ever split in any smart way and you had almost no control over it.

Now forget that. The fact you can run 2 or 3 monitors and you have more control over how the programs and games span across them is a GOOD thing! Many of us run two monitors. I do, and I can't imagine running 1 larger monitor over 2 smaller ones. Damn you would have to get 1 large ass monitor to equal that work space and you still probably wont get the same overall resolution. I like having more resolution and I like having a split in between them. The monitor in front is my main web surfer while the one to the right is running Foobar, system monitors, and uTorrent! I only need to glance over there once in awhile but it's nice to be able to do it. It cost almost nothing to find a spare monitor and do you think I could afford a GIANT monitor that has 2,304 pixels across? That's what a basic 19" and a practically free 17" monitor gives me. DAMN! Two "small" 19" monitors would give me 2,560 pixels across! I would need a $2,000+ monitor to do that! Yet I could probably pick up a matching 19" monitor for under $100!

My point is many of us love running 2 monitors over one large one. It might not be as good for watching one big movie, but it's better for running many apps at once. You get more real estate for a fraction of the cost!

Now what if you want 2 monitors and a big TV off to the side? I could see this being somewhat common. Perhaps the TV is a little ways away but you run an HDMI cable over to your home theater setup. So you could still use the PC with 2 monitors while someone watches a movie on the TV right?

You can do that off your bog standard 5770 or 5850? Well I say that is awesome! These cards come with this extra ability and yet don't really cost any more than the "other" cards with the same horsepower in other areas. So it's virtually a freebie like I said!

I didn't say I hated it , but it is not a big selling point and most video cards will do two monitors already. AMD/ ATI could have developed something that most people would actually use, like a faster video card with more ram that supports two monitors. The 5870 cards can do well over 1000 core safely with the right air cooler.
