Looking for a basic board, under $75ish, doesn't need anything really except be a decent quality board with a solid chipset.

Overclocking probably will not be done, but I wont shun the option.

Being I know nothing about newer chipsets for AMD, anyone give some opinions?

Micro or Standard atx, its going to be a real basic system for some real light gaming and surfing.

I have not really looked too much in biostars, I have had a LOT of issues with them in the past...

Maybe just bad luck, maybe just bad picks... I don't know..

Willing to get one if someone can say its a solid board though.

look up at the edit

Grab that TA770 or the Open Box 790GX, both kickass boards, you won't find better for the price.

dont get the foxconn
gigabyte is good
skip the ecs
once again no fox
better then the 1st gigabyte
skip the ecs

also have you looked at any biostars?

they are kick ass boards, my tforce 550(egg doesn't sell it anymore but they sell the 560) is a faithful companion that kicks the shit outta most cheap boards when it comes to performance and bios

A BIG +1 from me for Biostar mobos. Look for a TForce version.

EDIT: 1 other big plus about Biostar is everytime I sent them a PM or needed help with accs. or questions they got back to me quickly.

I've used 5 of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138114
and 7 of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138105
in my builds in the past 5 months and all have proven to be very solid boards.
Not a single issue with any of them.
That being said, I've been using Bio star board's in my builds for other's for the last 3 year's
and have never had an issue with any of them.Granted they are probably never overclocked
at all.The ones i have messed around with though have been decent in that area.

We always seem to have opposite experiences with certain brands. XD!

I've always loved foxconn, while biostar ended up crap.

Thanks guys, any chipsets to really avoid?

i don't know the newer Foxconn board are suppoed to be pretty wicked and solid but i have never tried Biostar boards so i can't say anything about them

Most of the AMD chips are pretty solid, but only the 790/770 chips are really any good for overclocking.

Good to know, wont be pushing this thing at all probably, maybe a hair bit but I don't know.

Ya, figured that much.... VIA :ohwell:

Seriously though, grab that 790GX Open Box, real bargain there :)

I love the Nvidia chipsets. If your not going to be Crossfire or wanting to go to a Phenom then get anything with a 570SLI chipset. I have read that almost all of the new AMD chipsets are good. (7xx)also the 690G is a good chipset it maybe a gen behind but they still are good. my N-force 430 chipset and the 690G were about the same in overclocks (nforce got slightly higher) but the 690G had alittle higher CPU/mem performance

Ugh not having the I/O plate would drive me up the WALL and I can't really bring myself to buy one on ebay for $15...

But looking at it, I might be willing to just spring the cash to buy the new one.

any thing VIA.

amen

nforce 5's are actually preety good overclockers

Amd 7 and nforce 5 are the chipsets you want to look at.

Ya Nforce 4 has some drive compatibility issues too... Not something I am willing to deal with.

No experience with nforce since the 4th gen so couldn't comment.

i've got a nforce 550, which is a really stripped down version of the 590, and its completely kick ass so....

Are you looking to buy new or used? I have an MSI K9A Platinum that I'm selling, PM me if you are interested.

Hey don't see me as wierd being for recommending this.

That ECS GF8200A is a solid board. Not the best in OCing because of their lame bios features but it is rock solid. I don't know why people are complaining about ECS when I see lots of people buying ECS products on egg. The same ECS manufactures for other premium companys too.

After an Abit and Gigabyte let me down, good old ECS took up the task for me. Running 3 machines solid, (one was built last thanks giving, my media pc with Blue-ray - NForce6M-A, File server running 6100SM-M and other is my VM Server with the same board that I am talking about GF8200A, never need a reboot running months together).

ECS warrants all boards for 3 yrs and have very decent turn around time on RMA. They just never die, I have to kill it to get an upgrade:D

I have been using ECS for quite a few years and never had 1 problem. My 9600GTs are ECS and have been nothing but excellent since I got them.
Their mobos are a good entry level board, Just plug in the stuff and go. But if you want to OC ur out of luck. They tried several times to make enthusiast boards and they were OK but just that, Ok.
