AMD will release Athlon 5000+ and FX 62 in socket 939 flavours. This is great news for many socket 939 supporters as we believed that 4800+ and FX 60 will be the last stop for you all.
AMD certainly hasn't made a big song and dance about it, but it clearly says on its website that it will support socket 939 with its new CPUs.

That seems like a great use of AMDs time. That way, they can sell more processors!

 Thats amazing, supports 939 the amd 5000+ holy crap! though its expensive.. Can you really notice a difference from a 4800+ to a 5000+?

That means that the processors below get cheaper, right?

Ill Probably get shot for this but here we go

i think i might get one of them cpus , but damn im gonna have to wait sinc ei think are gonna be around the 600's

I'll be waiting till they make the die shrink to 65nm before I consider upgrading to AM2. The performance gain seems too close when compared to the similar 2.6ghz of dual core Opteron 939 power versus the new AMD 5000+.

Probably by then, the DDR2 800mhz will be more mature with better latencies for 2gb dual channel kits instead of being trounched by lower latency DDR1.

why is there 3 different versions of X2 3800

explain tto me please

Ugh they aren't going to sell many of anyhing now that conroes are coming out like next month

Too true, Conroe owns the current batch of AM2 hands down. We enthusiasts and gamers alike have gathered togetherer because AMD was the gaming processor to be had. Now, the tables have turned...

Though I support AMD, I find myself lacking the resolve to buy an AM2 over the Intel Conroe in good conscience when obviously AM2 is lacking. Just doesn't seem right to pay about the same for an inferior product when placed side by side.

FX64 may still have a chance in gaming, if they continue increasing the clocks like they have been.

Making allegiances and having a heavy preference to one manufacturer over another can only hurt the consumer in the long run.
If man was a better race, we would shed our preconceptions and embrace the best technology, the best life we could bloody well get our hands on... As it is, people will buy slower products at a high cost from other manufacturers, because they have formed some kind of sub-conscious force-field protecting them from the necessity of conscious thought and reasoning...

This is the radiance of mortal ignorance, let us bask in its evanescent glow... :wtf:

I think thats just a really complicated way of saying only fanboys are gonna buy AM2 chips. ;)

shhh.... You're ruining my air of intelligence... ;)

I thought it was well said :) , and very true.

AM2 is still gonna own Conroe in gaming. Conroe is only gonna be great in PI and a few other number crunching tests due to the 4MB L2 cache. DO not count AMD out yet. Anyone foolish enough to jump to Intel now deserves the ridicule when Intel falls far short in the gaming world.

I'm not even going to dignify your post with my usual intellectual rants. Suffice to say this: IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT! IDIOT!

That's you.

Show me some benchmarks from a retail Conroe, not the golden samples Intel was kind enough to hand out to the morons on xs.

Yet you are all so sure that it will be so much better that you will blindly jump without some retail comparisons, not these engineering samples. That is fine. I do not doubt Conroe is powerful, but there is nothing the current crop of AMD CPU's cannot run. I am not switching to anything, I will keep my S939 for some time. AM2 doesn't look like crap to me as well, but the next gen AMD CPU's on the 65nm process will be the CPU's to jump on.

I can't be bothered, people like you no longer deserve my attention, or anybody's. Go back and wallow in your own ironic sense of intelligence...

Could that be because they come from AMD? That magical company who apparently can magically make an old architechture beat a new one... I wonder, do you live in a Well, along with your other AMD zealot friends.

Oh, and just so you know. I have four AMD systems, two Intel systems. An Intel laptop, a Pentium 3 server. Both my gaming systems are AMD...
