I do prefer LGA sockets anyway and the thing is I'm just disappointed in AMD and I wish they hadn't acquired ATi as they are drowning together.

AMD is responsible for :

- Little or no competition in CPU market for years.
- Rebranding GPUs multiple times.o_O
- High TDP chips.
- False advertising and exaggerating their products performance.
- And recently no competition in high end GPU market.

Don't get me wrong I've been an ATi and AMD user from the times of ATi Rage 128 Pro but I feel I've saw and waited enough...

Despite bad press and tough times they are still around.

Intel isn't innocent either, honestly far worse crimes they have committed.

Basically because Intel needs them. I wouldn't be surprised if they push so far that Intel has to literally bail them out though... their financials are terrible. They need Zen to work so bad it's not even funny.

news about Intel possibly adopting the IGP tech from AMD APUs from earlier this week or month.

That would probably be one way of unofficially bailing them out.

Buying their tech... yeah, I think that's pretty much in line with what I am saying.

Intel needs them. So they'll keep leaching their tech assets in exchange for cash infusions until AMD is left with a wafer of silicon and a set of crayons.

I think it depends on Zen how much Intel will pay for the IGP tech, to be frank. This is critical for them.

I know Zen is a Critical Point for them bud

I know, I wasn't trying to argue. I was just stating my feelings.

no worries dude we are on the same page, That's why I called you bud.

I didn't, just named the processor that debuted with it. Via apparently even released some processors on Slot 1.

Don't forget the Pentium III. I keep this little guy around my work in case of emergencies. :p

That's really surreal seeing my old keyboard I sold you next to a Pentium III...

If your CPU is more expensive than your motherboard, LGA, if your motherboard is more expensive than you CPU, PGA. That's why Intel uses LGA, and why my A4 is PGA.

Slot to rule them all.

I think you get a better electrical connection with pin due to clamp pressure so I vote pins plus I don't much care bar bga I mean so long as I can swap it easy.

An APU on a slot card with 4gb of HBM2 would be nice.

Hmm, let's go back few years, what we had from Nvidia..? G92 chip = 8800 GTS 512/9800GTX/9800GTX+/GTS250 from the 128 shader chip, and 8800GT had also several facelifts with new names.

Of course rebranding is stupid and misleading, but Nvidia does it too, though not so much anymore on the gamer-grade GPUs like AMD did just double the VRAM and put a little OC, and 290 series saw a new life as the 390 series.

Xeon slot 2 also. :)

" Smirk "
Anyone mentioned that Other Slot
No not Slot 1 or slot 2 or AMD Slot A
Virtual Beer and mucho Kudos for Any one who can Name that "Slot"

What. The Slot B Alpha 7's?

No not the one i was thinking of
I do Believe you have a Motherboard with this Slot Already

Let's be honest they cannot even design a power efficient GPU anymore unless they have access to newer semiconductor fabrication technology and the example is the RX 480 which while it has an improved power efficiency cannot even beat Nvidia's last generation GTX 970/980s. It's ridiculous to see while Nvidia is doing well with GTX 1070/1080 AMD release RX 480 which optimistically can match last generation Nvidia cards in both power consumption and performance.

And yes Nvidia did rebranding too but that was a while ago I'm talking about the present. after a really bad experience with power hungry 290x and Sapphire Toxic 280x which died last week I'm more than happy to get back to Nvidia.:)

Wasn't Pentium II or Pentium III the only ones that used slots?

Yes they both were, my Pentium II has worked just fine since 1997. I have taking it out numerous times without breaking the slot.

Slot is probably the most safe method although long gone (but not forgotten).

I prefer LGA over PGA. I've ruined few pins of PGA CPU when trying to pull them out whereas I've yet to ruin LGA grid. Besides, I consider CPU more precious than motherboard.

Slot should come back but in a more refined form.
